Introduction:
Change is inevitable for an organization. In order to implement new system or technology
or in order to fix the existing system, change is extremely important. The blue spider case study
is about the Parks Corporation who is trying to bring about certain things in the company. Gary
Anderson was given the responsibility for undertaking the project of rebuilding the corporation
as he is one of the most trusted confident engineers of his time. Following project discusses
about the problems faced by the Park Corporation faced and how change management can help
in solving the issues are discussed in detail.
Issues arising in the company:
The Park Corporation is the company which laid emphasis upon the development of the
R & D for the Department of the Defense. However with the passage of time, the company has
shifted its focus from the R & D to a production facility of a lower expense. In order to do so the
company has to go through numerous changes and cut shorts. As they were cutting costs, they
were unable to hire experienced engineers in the field. Instead they hired the inexperienced ones.
Gary Anderson was one of the most capable amongst them who go- promoted right away for his
capabilities. In order to begin with the phase one of the project which is with the Lords industry
for the improvement of the structural abilities of the tactical missile for the Army’s Spartan
Program. However, from the very beginning of the project, there were several things which went
wrong. These are described in the section below.
 No project management guidelines were followed. In order to conduct a project, a
proper project proposal has to be prepared. Only after the approval of which the

project can be undertaken. This should be including all the gory details of the
existing facts about the project along with the upcoming new facts about the
project. However, the project management did not proceed ethically. Instead it hid
numerous facts about the project. The design specifications were not compatible
to the requirements. However, when Gary wanted to bring it to the surface, Gable
silenced him.
 The project started off just like that, without any prior notice. It did not follow any
of the project guidelines. The entire process was very informal which was again
nit accepted. Proceeding without any proper documentation is not acceptable
(Hayes, 2018)
 There was a huge problem faced by Gary in the Park Corporation, which is
behavioral issue. When he protested about the unethical way approving the
proposal, he was threatened to be replaced.
 The operations were extremely poor, which resulted in poor results as well.
 The organizational architecture were very unclear. Before beginning with the
project, it is very important to make sure that the organizational structure is clear.
The company barely lay emphasis upon this issue.
 This project did not develop a proper project management plan. Neither was the
project manager chosen on the basis of the capabilities. For a project to complete
within proper time and budget, it is important to follow proper project
management process. This includes, following a proper project schedule, Gantt
chart, budget analysis, risk management, quality analysis, scope management and
others. For the blue spider project, Gable did not let the project manager to work

according to the ethics. This has resulted in the failure of the project along with
the management system of the project.
 Apart from this the Blue Spider Project failed to show effective resource
management and Communication management as well. All most all the nine
major areas of the project management has been a disaster for this project.
Change management for the project:
This could have been prevented if the following things would have been followed in the
project.
Change in the project scope: Defining the scope of the project is one of the most important part
of the project. Before beginning the project, it is very important to understand the actual
requirement of the project (Shafiq et al., 2018). After the project scope is defined, the project
manager can actually estimate proper cost for the project, and where the labors can be allocated.
The three main parts of the project scope is planning the project, controlling the process and
closing the project. None were followed for this project.
Following a timeline: In a project management, time management is extremely important. Gantt
chart is a tool that is used for determining the project milestones which is extremely effective for
delivering a project. A successful project delivery includes the completion of the project within a
scheduled time.
Preparing a project budget: The Blue spider Project commenced all of a certain where which
was again one of the major issues due to which the project failed. By determining a budget in the
beginning, the project management can lead to the successful completion of the project without
any financial shortage.

Project Quality Management: Maintaining quality helps in development of a positive brand
image. The Company’s reputation depends upon the brand image that it has created. In the blue
spider project, one of the main drawback was cutting the cost (Aziz & Curlee, 2017). In order to
do so, little was thought about the management of quality of the project. By improving the
quality, a better, error free project can be delivered. Hence, quality management has to be
implemented in the project.
Risk Management: The process of identifying the risk such that it can be mitigated is one of the
crucial part of the project management that must be undertaken by the project managers in order
to deliver a successful project (Alexandrova & Kuzmanova, 2017). Although, Gary wanted to
implement this in the blue spider project, Gable prevented that from happening. This led to the
failure of the project. Thus implementation of the risk management has to be the part of the
change control process.
Behavioral Improvement: Employees play an important role among the stakeholders of the
project. The project manager who is also an employee of the organisation has faced numerous
behavioral challenges while conducting the project. Repeated challenges faced by the
organisational employees in terms of behavior can give fries to internal conflicts among the
employees and the management. A change in behavioral aspect of the organisation’s
administration is suggested such that the relationship with the employees can be improved and a
better working environment can be developed.
Improving the management level: It has been observed that Henry Gable who is the director of
the Engineering department of the organisation has been using unethical means to receive the
approval of the project. Upon protesting, the loyal ones are threatened to be thrown out of the

job. This is completely incorrect. Thus a change in the management should be performed such
that unethical practices can be prevented (N’Cho, 2017).
Implementation of Supply Chain management: By implementing a proper supply chain
management, the problem faced due to resource allocation can be solved. Without the continuous
supply of the resources, the project is most likely to fail thus, this change has to be incorporated
in the system. By implementation of the supply chain management process the project can be
exempted of the resource-lessness.
Implementation of new technologies: One of the major improvement in the project can be
obtained by incorporation of the new technologies. The project management tools like the project
tracking tool and the others are capable of keeping track of the activities that are occurring in the
project. These helps in monitoring and predicting the results of each every stage of the project.
As they are automated, they are capable of doing all the functioning by themselves (Pollack,
2017).
Implementation of the change management is very important for the organization. This
may be difficult for the employees to follow up immediately, but for this case, it is more of a
necessity. The project has failed to perform with all the arrogances and the misbehaviour from
the higher authorities thus all the above mention changes in the project can be extremely
beneficial in preventing the problems from occurring.
Conclusion:
From the above discussion it is evident that the Park Corporation has failed to complete
the project successfully due to certain major issues. All the issues that has taken place in the
organization could have been resolved by implementing the above mention changes. In a project,

the most important role is played by the project manager. He is the one who is responsible for
making decisions regarding the project. All though her the main role is played by the Henry
Gable, the director for the department of engineering who barely abided by the law and the ethics
of the project. With the implementation of the mentioned change control process, the project can
be concluded successfully.
