INTRODUCTION
Analysing past work is very necessary, as it highlights those areas where team and
managers has done mistakes. A project is a targetted work which is to be completed in given
time period, usually a project is for short period. This assignment is based on case study for
creation of wedding dress. This assignment will discuss about the execution and management of
a project. PRINCE2 approach is explained in this assignment and it has also included end of
project report. In this assignment many areas like analysing business case, performance of a
team, project objectives is also discussed.
EXECUTION AND CONTROL
Only successful plan is not enough for getting desired results, it is necessary to execute it
properly. Because in the absence of proper implementation of this plan, desired result might not
obtain by the company. Proper controlling and directing while executing a plan is necessary to
accomplish a task without any mistakes.

Execution of Project
Execution of process is important, as company could only get optimum output if it has
adopted proper methods for implementation and is directing the process by taking appropriate
steps (Cunningham, Scheuer and Black, 2016). Below are process of implementing the plans
which is explained in phases and their success or failure is also presented:
 Develop Team: There are three different kind of teams work for this project, members of
team has done assigned work as per expectation but still some mistakes has committed by
them. Wedding dress designer, Fitting master and Material testing persons are three
teams which were created for execution of project plan. In which wedding dress
designers role is to create a design for dress. Fitting master has took fitting measurements
for bride and groom's dress. Material testing persons has a role of testing material of
dress, they has a responsibility to check materials quality. But they took more time as
compare to estimated in critical path model, the estimated day was 47 but this project
extends to 51 days. Overall, client were happy with the design and fittings, overall team
did a good job except taking more time period for completing the project.
 Assign Resources: All the team members involved in this project got their raw materials,
money and labours for completing the project. Every one did good job, except taking
more time for completion of project. Around £20 were wasted due to extra time taken by
them to accomplish the project.
 Status Meeting: Every week meeting were organised to check plan status, as maximum
time were consumed in planning how to design wedding dress.
 Modification of Plan: Their were some minor changes in plan due to changes in the
preferences of clients. Design plan were changes accordingly as any changes after
implementation might increase cost of creation.
 Monitoring and Controlling: Project manager of three teams managed the work in fine
way because monitored and controlled the team performance, managers also focused on
creation of dress at minimum cost.
Management of Project
This project was managed through focusing on below five key areas:

 Planning: All essential activities were planned and requirement of various sources were
also discovered and an additional machines and labours were reserved to meet
unexpected events (Das, 2015).
 Organising: All the activities were organised properly and resources were managed
according to the project requirement. The main reason behind happiness of client was
excellent design and quality of dress. As the main focus of project manager was on
maintaining quality of dress.
 Staffing: Many teams under project manager were working on different activities.
Recruitment department has choose right and expert people for proper job fit. These
people has done their job will and in excellent way.
 Directing: Project manager taken care of any issues and try to solve it on the spot. He
gave proper directions to the staff to work in a efficient way. He gave freedom to each
staff member to share their problem directly to him.
 Controlling: As the average time for execution of this project was 7 days, so their
performance were strictly controlled by project manager. He asked project progress after
each hours, to know how much percent staff has achieved and how much is left to cover.
Explanation of PRINC2 approach
PRINCE2 approach is used for effective management of a project. Many private sector
companies are using it in their organisation (Eweje, Turner and Müller, 2012). Government of
UK is also uses this approach (PRINCE2 Courses and Certification for Project Management.
2017). Their are basically three main points on which PRINCE2 framework focuses on, these are
organised and controlled beginning, middle and end of the project. The main key questions
covered under this approach are given below;
 What are the targets of company to be achieve?
 When project will be initiated?
 What are the needs and requirements of project?
 Is there any external support requirements for the project?
 How much cost is to be incurred for completing this project?
Roles of the project management: Role of project manager: The main role of project manager is to control all activities and
provide directions to the workers of this project. He was also responsible for selecting

right people at right place and make assure that project is accomplished within set time
period. Role of suppliers: The main role of suppliers is to supply all necessary items which are
required by project managers for creation of wedding dress. It is very important for
suppliers to understand the exact needs of project manager.
 Role of customers: Customer's only looks the final finished products and matches
whether it has meet their expectations or not. Their responsibility is to provide all
informations related to their preferences and choices on time.
Project Support
This approach of PRINCE2 makes sure that customers and sellers should remain on the
same phase. Different teams were involved in this project (Weil, Brady and Weil, 2016). The
scope includes what the project is getting and how things are going. Contracts and management
contracts are some of the aspects that are not covered by the scope of this approach.
END OF PROJECT REPORT
Project manager's report
Creation of wedding dress was the main task which a project manager has accomplished.
A project management report consists of main tasks, Critical Path Model, PERT analysis and
final outcomes after execution (Hodgson, Paton and Cicmil, 2011). It is prepared by senior
executive and it contains present status of how much work is done. A report is made with regular
interval of time. Other entities who have curiosity in this report are key stakeholders, sponsors
and senior managers. The two main areas covered in this reports are explained below:
 Performance report: The maximum deadline for this project was 68 days. Out which 52
days were consumed only on planning of activities. All team members did their work in
an effective way and they maintain the quality of work assigned to them. Generally,
management is concerned about issues such as more budgets or bad execution of schemes
(Shafritz, Ott and Jang, 2015), but these workers did their best and the entire program
was organized in the prescribed budget. Still designers and material testers did excellent
job, because of this client became happy with the design and quality of dress.
 Benchmark: This approach compares different standards present in the industry. It is
based on the limits or parameters set by the project managers (Polmear, 2017). Providing

excellent design and quality in dress in £160 was not easy task, but through application of
Key Performance Indicator, it became possible to achieve desired goal at available
budget. KPI indicates whether the organization is moving in the right direction, check the
effectiveness of the deployment work which is done by the employees to achieve
organizational objectives (Regezi, Sciubba and Jordan, 2016). They have various metrics
that can be used by a company but in this case, the metric of financial, customer, process
and people is used. All the internal activities such as finding designers, fitting masters
and innovator were smoothly done, creation of dress without any hurdle is important for
completing the project in given time frame. Team members were also happy with the
reward and they learned many new skills from this project. SMART objectives helped the
organisation in achieving aim of the project.
Review of business case
A business case is reviewing of a project, at which company might work in coming time
(Pappano and Wier, 2012). It also consists of several benefits which is attached with the
successful accomplishment of a project.
Benefits achieved: The main target and focus of project manager was to maintain quality
and provide excellent designs to a dress, the revenue earned from this project was £300. Total
expenditure was 40% of a price, but due to failure in completing the project in assign time it goes
to £140. Hence, profit earned by project manager through creation of wedding dress is £160.
Expected net benefits: As per expected profit, the amount of profit should be reached to
£180. If enterprise would able to control extra time taken by team members to complete the
tasks, then project manager could earn benefit of £180 and extra £20 expenses might be avoided
by him. But the customer were happy with design and quality, so strong relationship were build
with client.
Change in report: Project manager has to make sure that extra time taken by the team
for planning related to design is to be avoided.
Review of project objectives
The two main prime objective of this report was to maintained the quality and create
appropriate design.
Time: For successfully organizing this event, project manager got 68 days. They did their
work in allotted time, except some of the tasks like planning for design which took 5 days extra

and which increases the costs by £20. But project manager able to manage the event and makes
client happy with their creation of dress.
Quality: The quality of wedding dress was good and client was happy with quality and
design of a dress. Their were few incidence in which some of the defects were found even after
quality check, but this was handled by project manager by making some modification in designs
and materials used (Hutchings and Shipway, 2017). The focus of this entire was to provide
quality services and comfort while wearing wedding dress. This objective was achieved
successfully and design of the wedding dress was so attractive, that some of attendees of
marriage ceremony took the contact details of designers.
Cost: The budget for creation of wedding dress was £200, most of the expenses were
consumed on design and quality check, as it was the core activity of whole project. Overall
whole work was done under budget, which indicates the efficiency of project manager and other
members of team. By avoiding wastages while using raw materials, helps project manager in
attaining the goal in under budget.
Scope: This project is a memorable experience for the task manager and members of
various team members. They create good relationships with customers and other people in their
family (Kays, 2012). In the future, any guests who were part of the wedding ceremony can
contact the company for organizing other events.
Benefits: The monetary benefit is not given much importance, as the main focus of
project manager was to provide excellent quality service and fine design. Still it able to did
whole project under assigned budget, which is good for project managers reputation.
Review of team performance
All teams did good job while performing their assigned tasks. This project was handled
by three teams; designer, quality tester and fitting master. Designers really gave excellent
performance, as client was happy with their innovative design of wedding dress. Quality tester
also check the quality very well, instead of making mistake in checking the quality, they handled
whole situations (Larson and Gray, 2013). Quality checker measures the standard of materials
used and make sure that theirs not much variations in design of wedding dress made by designers
team. Fitting master takes the measurement of both groom and bride, they also estimated some
situations in which additional wearing of dress might required and put chances for any further
modifications at the time of using dress. Apart from this, team members suggests some items

which could make bride more beautiful. This makes clients happy and they get a feel like
receiving recommendations from family members.
Reflection (product/service) : The products and services which were used in this project
were matching the standard of the industry. The dress quality and design is appreciable and
overall slim fitting of dress makes the bride looks more beautiful. But time taken by designer
planner exceeds the time limit. There were some situations where quality checker missed some
bad quality which might result in dissatisfaction by clients. Fitting masters did well at their job.
Other labours also coordinates with their senior team heads. But due to lack of knowledge of
particular task, the communication gap between team head and labours were raised. This reflects
that in up-coming time, they have to be more careful because their single mistake can result in
over-budgeting of the project.
Lessons Report
Executive Summary
This report will discuss about all the mistakes which Project managers and team members
has done while executing and planning this event. This report will also involve the fine work and
good strategies which is adopted by team members when the activities goes beyond project
managers expectations.
Scope of report
This will discuss the measures that the company can use in the coming time so that they
can stop the same mistakes. This report contains details of marriage project only, other projects
of the organization are not included in this lesson report.
Review
What went right – Whole project got excellent feedback from the bride and groom and
they are satisfied with the dress quality and design. Company did their work under estimated
budget, this is a appreciable for them because it will make a positive impact on their next project.
When one division missed their goals (design planner) then other (design execution) did the
work of damage control. Good connection between various teams is favourable for the enterprise
and clients also.
What went wrong – Planning of wedding dress design took more than expected time.
This has increased the total cost of the project by £20. Somewhere quality also distracted and
missed by quality checker. But it was managed later by project manager.

Review of useful measurements
There was an important measure in the constant observation of all the teams which were
involved in quality control. TQM approach were used more effectively, to help the design
planning team for better managing its time and budget (Mankiw, 2014). In this case, this lesson
has learned that instead of being told the exact budget, a different team will get it, the manager
should allocate them in small quantities and make a small provision.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above project report, it could be concluded that successful plan is not
enough for getting desired results, it is necessary to execute it properly. PRINCE2 approach is
used for effective management of a project. Many private sector companies are using it in their
organisation. This approach makes sure that customers and sellers should remain on the same
phase. Critical Path Model, PERT analysis are useful tool to track the activities and measures the
performance.
