CE 3.2 Project Background
CE 3.2.1 Background of the organisation
Parand Power Plant is a 942 MW power plant. The plant comprises of six V94.2 version
gas turbine units. The gas turbines has been developed by Ansaldo Energia Company of Italy.
The company has been set up on an area of 100 hectares in the south western region of Tehran.
The power plant has many associate clients: Iran Power Development Company (IPDC) and
Ghods Niroo Consulting Engineers Company as the client consultant. The main contractor of the
power plant is MAPNA Power Plant Construction and Development Company (MD-1). The
power station had a capacity of 230 kV. All engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)
works for the power plant is handled by MD1. The power plant makes use of oil and oil gas for
the production of power.

CE 3.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
For the completion of this project in accordance to the requirements of the clients, I had
set out the following list of objectives to be followed:
To prepare a proposal for the schedule of the work.
To make use of standard mode of coding, work break down structure and analysis for
the development of the project progress report.
To work on the planning scheduling and reporting of the status of the work that is
being done from the initiation to the completion of each of the task.
To produce a plan for the mitigation of any kind of risk that might occur during the
progress of the project.
To find out proper strategies and solution for the overcoming of road blocks and
delays.
CE 3.2.3 My area of work
I was asked to help the power plant with my planning and project control skills as a
control engineer for the project. With the help of experience in the field of large projects I was
able to easily manage the work that was provided to me. I was able to complete the project
within the requested deadline and also within the budget of the client. My main objective was to
prepare engineering, procurement and construction level 3 schedule. This was to be implemented
in to the combined cycle power plant industries. Apart from this I had used my writing skills to
work on the preparation of the project progress plan for the project. The progress report was then
shared with the management and the supervisors of the project.

For the complete duration of the project I was responsible for the preparation of the EPC
Level 3 Schedule. The schedule was to be used for the combined cycle power plant industries. I
was also asked for the preparation of the schedule to be proposed for the working of the project.
With the help of my project planning and control skills I was able to assist my team and help my

CE 3.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 3.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project
I was asked to prepare an EPC Level 3 Schedule. The schedule was to be used for the
combined cycle power plant industries. I had prepared the project schedule and analysed the
project schedule already in use for modifications. I had documented all the work for the project
on a daily basis and worked on the scheduled updating of the progress report to the management
and the supervisors of the project. I was also asked to prepare, and maintain a report project
schedule. I was also asked to analyse the plans for the project and come up with the best plan to
follow in times of crisis and make use of the resources for the mitigation of the risk. I had
planned, scheduled, and reported the progress of the site activities for the initiation of the
contract order to the end of contract closing with the client.
CE 3.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
The project was based on the work of many different topics which needed to be used in
unison in order to make the project a successful one. I had received the required training and
knowledge from previous experience and from my university for the completion of this project
with ease. I had used Project Control, Management Theory and PMBOK for the project. I had
also conducted research on the work to be done for the project to understand any new and
innovative work that can be implemented into the project.

CE 3.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed
All the procedures of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning had been
completed by me. I was also asked for the overcoming of the road blocks that were to occur
during the project timeline. I was asked to make use of the available resources in hand to remove
the road blocks as soon as possible. I was able to complete all the task that was requested from
me within thee deadline of the project. I had also taken care for the proper utilisation of the
resources at hand in order to complete the work within the provided budget. With the help of my
work break down structure I was able to guide my team mates.
CE 3.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
3.3.4.1 Issues
The problems which I had faced in the project were familiar to me which helped in the
removal of them easier than expected. There was no proper method of files sharing and
information sharing among the management and the supervisor of the project. There was also no
method of tracking the progress of the project in accordance to the timeline which had been
devised for the project.
3.3.4.2 Solutions
With the help of my skills I device a working template for the sharing of information only
editable by the author. I then worked on the development of a cycle system of file approval
system which helped in the speeding up of the work. Moreover I also made use of excel and
formulas to make a progress report for the project to be shared with my project supervisor and
management.

CE 3.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
I would device out the project documents which needed to get reviewed by the
management and my project supervisor before it can be put into action. I would make the report
in digital format so that the transferring of the files can be easier. I would start working on the
project as soon as the report was approved and provided the second document for the approval
from the management. This helped in the speeding up of the project.
CE 3.3.6 Collaborative work
I had collaborated with my project team to complete the project within the designated
time and to follow the project objectives in order to meet the requirements of the client. I would
often consult with my colleagues in order to find the best solution for any work that was stuck. I
would often revise the progress report for the project to meet with the objectives and the
requirements of the project. This helped me to follow the progress of the project in a better way.
CE 3.4 Project Review
CE 3.4.1 Project Overview
At the end of the project I was able to conclude that I was able to complete the project
within the designated deadline and within the cost provided to me. I was able to complete the
project within 36 months and $60M dollar budget. I was also able to mitigate all the risks for the
project within a small amount of time and remove any kind of more risk to happen again. I was
able to use my project management and control skills for the completion of the project and make
the project as per the requirements of the client.
