Introduction:
Planning a proper project management is somewhat a difficult task for many
departments in different organisations. While developing a proper project management plan,
companies often face difficulties in designing maturity models in different project
management units 1. Developing a proper project management and the increased popularity
of different project management approaches has often influenced organisations to develop
their own project management methodologies and standards to plan the project management
procedures. In todays world organisations have a growing tendency to integrate knowledge
and competencies together in the development of projects 2. As a result of which many
organisations are opting for integrated project management processes in order to enable
effective development of the project plan and the project portfolio. An integrated project
management process is developed from the set of standards and processes of respective
organisations 3. It includes managing of the plan’s cost, effort, agenda, risks and other issues
while defining the project’s development. This report discusses about the project
management integration of two organisations named Ford Motor Co. and Corwin Corporation
and the change request analysis of each of the organisations 4. Thus, in forming the change
request analysis report of the mentioned organisations, the details of the change that are done
in the management process and in the project life cycle are reflected in the reported.

Corwin Corporation
Background of the organisation:
Corwin corporation was an organisation that was mainly driven by marketing besides
having manufacturing ideas. By June 2003, the organisation had reached its profit level to
about $950 million per year with the reputation of a company with the lowest manufacturing
cost with high quality product components. Different types of product lines were maintained
by the company which were often sold in departmental stores, automotive part distributors
and hardware stores 5. Due to its rising reputation, the company of Corwin Corporation
received numerous inquires about manufacturing special products. In the year 2001, 2002 and
2003, the company gained profit while developing a good relationship with the Peter’s
company. The company of Corwin Corporation was known to produce luxury products which
had long lifecycles. The company continued this trend till 15 years when at last a change in
the management of the project approach was requested.
Proposed changes in the project management plan:
The company of Corwin Corporation proposed changes to use the marketing approach
in their project management planning process. Implementing the marketing approach in
project management plan will help them in finding the new markets for the products that are
already existing in the product line rather than going through exploring new products 6. For
implementing this change, the company maintained a small R&D group with a mission to
evaluate the art of technology and its application to the products that are existing in the
product lines.

As the whole company of Corwin corporation was dependent on marketing hence
implementing an engineering support would help the group in its marketing and
manufacturing processes.
Proposed changes in the project management process and life cycle:
In order to implement the proposed deviations in the project management plan, the
project manager of the company estimated to perform about 30 tests. In order to do so the test
matrix was used where only five tests were done and the remaining 25 tests were left for the
future. The tests were jointly done by the Peter’s company and the Corwin corporation. As
the change in the project process and lifecycle started, at the third week the company noticed
that all the raw materials that were produced had been purchased and were ready for further
testing and formulation. The total cost that was estimated for the proposed change in the
project management lifecycle and its process was nearly about $231000 at the end of six-
month including cost of all resources such as labours or supports that are required, the cost of
testing, materials needed, G&A and overhead costs.

Change details in the project management processes and each stage of project life cycle:
The management of the Corwin Corporation decided to include the marketing approach in their
business process. Under this context the company also requested the change to include the R&D
process in their project management process.
Justifications to the required changes that occur: The management of the Corwin
corporation requested this change in the project management approach so as to produce an
exception with the pricing of the product and its estimation between the marketing and
manufacturing approach.
Integrated change control: The control measures that were integrated in the project
management changes includes implementation of test matrix. The project manager of the project
estimated that about 30 tests would be required in order to bring in the change 7. The test matrix
that was provided included testing conditions of about first five tests. The rest of the 25 test
conditions were kept to be done at later date. After the project request change started, about 20
tests were conducted and about 30 tests were put into proposal.
Describe Risks to be Considered for this Change: Initiatives were taken previously for
implementing the R&D effort in the company and so the senior managers and the vice
presidents were worried about the fact that it would be tough to get along with the project.
Estimate Resources and Costs Needed to Implement this Change: The resources that are
estimated to implement this change includes direct labour, testing, materials, overhead, G& A.
The total project cost that is estimated for six months is $231,000 and the total cost that is
estimated at the end of third month is $249,700.

Background of the organisation:
The organisation of Ford Motor Co consists of the electrical/electronics system
engineering department which has four purposeful manufacturing areas including, North
America Car, Commodity and Application Engineering, North America Truck and E/E
software modeling. The department of system engineering of the Ford Motor Co is aligned
with the creation of products with improved quality, exciting products, competitive revenue
and cost and improved relationship. The company of Ford Motor Co also focuses on
intensified communication while stressing on factors like consistent communication, focused
priorities, using simple messages, and by removing barriers. The department of software
engineering at Ford Motor Co., also focuses on emphasizing the team members with
improved working process while simplifying, standardizing, setting and stabilizing the team
management process.
Proposed changes in the project management plan:
The change that was proposed in the project management plan of the company of
Ford Motor Co. includes sponsoring of a project management office. Implementing the

project management office in their project management process, will help them in
standardizing the management if the project and it engineering functions across the internal
functional areas and with the electrical program management team 8. The project
management office at Ford Motor Co. will also help in providing support and necessary shift
priorities when required. The next change request that was done in the project planning is by
transferring the ownership and leadership of the management of the scheme from expert
project managers to the business department division. This is one of the most vital change
requests that had been made in the planning process 9. Implementing this change will help the
company in achieving greater and enriched organisation goals while increasing the maturity
of the project management 10. Change in the designing of the project management office
framework was another request that was proposed that will in turn resist the countering of the
departments of the company. Other changes that are requested besides these includes
introducing consistency in the project management process, introducing new project
management methodologies within the project management office, staffing the project
managers and team members within the office and to maintain a structure for delivering
consistent projects through the project life cycle.

The project management office that was requested in the change request, will act as a
single governance for the framework of the project management office. In order to bring in
this change the project managers of the company consulted about the implementation and

company also internalized the disciplines of the project management with the engineering
roles and responsibilities 12. The company intended the engineers to develop a compentency
between the area and the in-house discipline of project management.
The senior managers of the organization have high expectations for implementing
compliance with the new project management methodologies and tools that were proposed to
be implemented.
For countering the resistances in the engineering department, the change in the design
of the project management framework was requested 13. For the this the stakeholders of the
project participated in the change process.
The new project management approach that was proposed in the project management
lifecycle included three phases-1. The discovery and define phase which helped in accessing
the overall baseline of the project management process and its condition, 2. Develop and
delivery phase whose main objective is to develop the solutions that are recommended and
the address the needs that are identified, 3. Organize and drive phase which is used to
safeguard that the solutions are fully implemented across every department of the project 14.
In managing the project team members, staffing is proposed to be implemented in the office
that would range from about five to eight people depending on the need of the project. In this
regard, the roles and responsibilities are examined depending on the scope of the project and
the skills that are needed for the leadership 15. The stake holders took the lead in order to

The changes that are being requested in the project management procedure of the Ford Motor
Company, includes creating mission in order to improve the quality, develop exciting products
and building up relationships 17. Besides this the changes also focused on intensifying the
communications. Beside this another change that is being requested in the organisation is
transferring the leadership and ownership in the project management 18. Change in the design of
the project management office framework, delivering project with consistency, developing a
project maturity model and enhancing data integrity in the project management approach of the
company are also requested as a part of project request change.
Justifications to the required changes that occur: Requesting the transferring of leadership
and ownership will help the organisation to achieve its goal by increasing the project
management maturity model 19. The request in change in the design of the project is done so as
to counter the resistances in the project. Another reason for the change in request for the change
in structure is done so as to allow consistency of project by allowing changes in the
circumstances. The requested change that is analysed for integrating diversification within the
organisation is done to identify the appropriate resources that are required for the project.
Integrated change control: Examining the project change needs, the company of Ford
integrated three best practices for the change. First is by sponsoring the management office of
Electrical Systems Engineering project, managing the resistance, driving consistency in the
project management, incorporating new project management methodologies 20. The data
integrity change request in the project was managed while auditing the engineering team’s tools
and processes.

The greatest challenge that was faced during the change request is that the amount of time that
the project managers took in order to understand the need of project management office
approach. Another risk that was identified was lack of flexibility in the change process.

Conclusion:
Thus, from the above business report it can be concluded than change management is
an important aspect for any project management process. It is the process that manages the
change request that are proposed in the project management process and its lifecycle so as to
ensure the outcomes that results in desired goal. Change management is often required when
an organisation like the mentioned ones plans to change some approaches or wants to
implement some new methodologies in the business process. The process of change request
analysis is somewhat difficult but doing so enables the organisations to ensure that the change
is implemented smoothly ensuring projects success. The process of change request analysis is
thus carried out following steps which includes determination of the scope of the change,
determination of the scope of the changes that are incorporated, gaining approval about the
change request and finally communicating the request approved change. In project
management, request in changes often arises from the side if the client where additional
changes are required in the deliverables of the project. Change requests are beyond the scope
of agreement and is beneficial for identifying the changes that are required in a project
management process. Change request can originate internally where it is referred to as
internal change request and involves a variety of actions which may include patching of
software and upgrading of hardware. Thus, it can be said that change is inevitable for nay
project management and to incur the best result from a project management plan it is
necessary to have a change request analysis.
