AI Summary
This portfolio assignment for PPMP20012 focuses on the crucial role of selecting appropriate project management (PM) application systems to ensure successful project realization. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the technical and managerial aspects of system engineering, including the application of generic life cycle models and the integration of stakeholder interests. The report highlights the distinction between system engineering management and project management, particularly concerning the application of software tools for decision-making. It references key resources such as SEBoK, Kerzner (2013), and ISO 21504:2015, emphasizing how the right selection of PM processes can reduce project costs and timelines. The assignment also considers the flow of information within project and portfolio management, discussing the need for careful strategy selection. The report includes references to relevant research that supports the analysis of PM application systems, making it a valuable resource for students studying project management.

3. The technical and
managerial aspects
Project management system has different aspects . One of the aspects of
the project management system is the application system. A project
management system is the helps in managing the resources and planning
the process of the project (SEBoK, 2018). The application system in the
project management are the tools which helps to develop the interrelations
between the processes and helps to organise the processes.
The information are the raw materials for the decision making process.
There are various applications and services provided by the software giants
which process the information and helps the organizations and project
managers in the decision making process (Nejib, Beyer & Yakabovicz,2017).
These software companies claim that their software are accurate in the
processing of the information (Al-Mamary, Shamsuddin & Abdul
Hamid,2013). However, it has been found out no system or the software
can be accurate, the successful decision making also depends on the
perception of the project managers.
ISO 21504:2015 provides the guidance for the managing of project and
portfolio management. According to the ISO 21504:2015 provides the
information about the flow of information in the project management
process (Kerzner, 2013). The selection of the right project management
process helps to reduce the cost and time for implementation of the
projects. According to this guideline the information flows up from program
to portfolio and the strategy flows down from portfolio to project. However,
the process is not this simple in the business process because portfolio is
the set of different projects and project consists of different programs. The
selection of strategy has ti be done carefully in this case.
