4 Stakeholders
4.1 Definition of Project Stakeholder Management
Stakeholders are the people who are either directly or indirectly attached with the project and its
activity. They are the people who get benefited as well as affected with every single activity of the
project. Stakeholders play a very vital role in the formulation of a project and provide a support
system which helps in completing the project in which it is required (Rose, 2013). Hence, it is
necessary that all the stakeholders should be taken into consideration and information related with
their needs and requirements should be gathered. This will help in managing the project and
completing the same in a proper and effective way.
4.2 How does this apply to my work in this course?
Stakeholders a termed as one of the most important part of a project. For a project manager it is
required that every single stakeholder should be taken into consideration (Saleh Al-Freidi, 2015).
Hence, analysing all the stakeholders will help the project manager in managing the project and
completing the same in a most appropriate way:

(Santos, 2008)
Project manager is the stakeholders who keeps an eye on each and every activity of the project and
manages the team working on the project.
Customers or end users are the most important stakeholders who purchase the end product produced
by the project or for whom the project is being developed.
Project team members are the people who remain indulged in processing every single activity of the
project (Tavan, and Hosseini, 2016). They work to manage the project in a proper way and helps in
completing the same within the required dates.
Sponsors are the stakeholders who provide funding and related help for the project. This helps in
managing the project and availing relevant resources for the same.
Government plays a very vital role for every project as they develop a set framework and
regulations with the effect of which work could be managed and all the project activities could be

5 Scope
5.1 Definition of Project Scope Management
Project scope helps in defining the boundaries and objectives for the project. Developing a project
without any objective is of no use because without any objective a project manager could not
succeed in completing the same. Reason behind it is that a project without any objective cannot be
processed as it does not have any direction with the effect of which it completed. Hence, it is
necessary that a project should have proper set of scopes and boundaries so that it could get
completed and should provide a proper set of benefits to the stakeholders available in the market.
5.2 How does this apply to my work in this course?
Mechanical Engineering Project is the projects which cannot be processed without any scope or
boundaries. These are the projects which are related with some or the other objectives and it
becomes necessary that these objectives should get fulfilled in a proper way (Kaczmarska, and
Gierulski, 2015). Hence, it is necessary that the scope for the mechanical engineering projects
should be determined and the same should be processed aiming to fulfil the set objectives are
targets. There are various set of benefits which are being provided with the help of project scope
these benefits are:
Project scope helps in determining the objectives on which the project is required to be processed.
All the requirements related with the project could be determined with the help of project scope
It helps in determining the acceptance criteria of the project which helps in decision making aspects
of whether the project should be initiated or the idea should be dropped (Brioso, 2015).
Boundaries of the project are being developed with the help of which all the activities of the
projects of the project could be processed in a fair way.
It helps in determining all the constraints of the project which helps in fulfilling the project
requirements.
Milestones for each activity are being developed by evaluating the scope for the same. This helps in
scheduling and completing the project within the required dates.
MP 49002 Managing Projects Spring 2017 version 0.0 page 11 of 21
Document Page
Risk related with the project are also being evaluated in the scope. It helps in the development of
the strategies with could help in mitigating the risk aspects and managing the project (Gomes,
2013).
6 Resources
6.1 Definition of Project Resource Management
Project resource management is the process which helps in determining and gathering appropriate
number of people for the progress of the project (Hoyle, 2013). Human resource plays a very vital
role for any project and when it comes to the engineering project it becomes more important that
proper number of human resource should be gathered. Hence, developing a proper recruitment and
selection process could help in managing the project and completing it within the required
deadlines.
6.2 How does this apply to my work in this course?
Project resource management is the process in which the number of people required to work upon
the project are evaluated and the most appropriate and skilled people are selected (Indelicato, 2009).
In a mechanical engineering project one of the most important aspects required to be taken into
consideration is the human resource. Proper number of human resource should be availed so that
progress of the project could be maintained and same could be completed in an effective way.
Managing human resource in project management includes:
Developing a proper organisational structure so that each and every individual working on the
project should have the knowledge of on which department he is required to work and from which
managerial head he should take the instructions (Jamali, and Oveisi, 2016).
To manage the project resources it is required that organisational theory should be considered by
the project manager.
Training is another aspect which is required to be focused upon. Providing proper set of training to
each and every team member of the mechanical project will help in refining their skills and will
help in bringing quality to the same.
Cost control is another aspect which is required to be focused upon by the project manager. There
are various set of fluctuations which could occur in the project. In this situation it becomes

7 Time
7.1 Definition of Project Time Management
Project time management is the process of the project which helps in evaluating every single
activity of the project so that relevant time could be allotted to every single activity (Rose, 2013).
Allocation of relevant set of time to every single activity helps the team members in availing a set
direction to complete the same. It is required that proper time duration should be allocated to every
single activity so that the project could get completed within the budget and time.
7.2 How does this apply to my work in this course?
Time management activity helps in sequencing and prioritizing the work in a proper way. Setting
priorities helps the project manager in developing a set framework.
Work breakdown structure is one of the aspects which are required to be taken into consideration.
Developing a work breakdown structure helps in bifurcating every single activity into a small unit
with the effect of which work could get managed (Saleh Al-Freidi, 2015). This helps in making a
project process easier and simple with the effect of which the same could get completed in a proper
and effective way.
Estimation of the duration is done in time management. This helps in allocating proper time
duration to every single activity.
Schedule for the project is developed which helps in prioritizing the work and processing the same
within the required framework.
Controlling of the schedule is also done in time management with the help of which project
activities are controlled and work is processed in a smooth manner (Santos, 2008).
Project time management also include selection of the most appropriate technique so as to complete
the project in a more frequent way. Critical path method is used in which a most appropriate and
short way. Shortest path is decided to perform the task in critical path method.

8 Cost
8.1 Definition of Project Cost Management
Project cost management is the process with the help of which estimating, budgeting and
controlling of the cost of the project which is being initiated is being done. Project cost management
also helps in evaluating the cost benefits means the benefits which will be gained with the help of
the project formulated by the project manager.
8.2 How does this apply to my work in this course?
In the mechanical engineering project cost management plays a very vital role so as to manage the
expenses which will incur in the project. Mechanical projects requires huge cost and it is required
that estimation should be done so as to reduce the unnecessary expenses and manage the project
progress (Varajão, et. al., 2017). There are certain set of aspects required to be taken into
consideration so as to manage the cost of the project, these aspects are:
Estimating the expenses which will incur in the project, preparing a cost sheet and evaluating the
expense which will incur in every single activity will help in managing the cost of the project and
reducing the unnecessary expenses.
Cost budgeting is another aspect required to be taken into consideration. Cost budgeting helps in
developing a list of expenses and providing a set budget for the project. It is necessary that the
project should get completed within the prepared budget (Kaczmarska, and Gierulski, 2015).

9 Risk
9.1 Definition of Project Risk Management
Risk management is the process which includes the activities with the help of which project
manager can identify the risk factors which could occur in the project in near future. It is necessary
that all the risk factors attached with the project should be taken into consideration by the project
manager so that strategies could be developed to mitigate the risk (Tavan, and Hosseini, 2016).
9.2 How does this apply to my work in this course?
Project Risk Management will provide a set direction with the effect of which assurance will be
made that the project management team will sustain in near future and work will be processed in a
smooth way. Following a process of risk management will help in managing the project: process of
risk involve:
Risk Planning in which plans for the management of risk are developed
Identification of all the risk factors is done (Varajão, et. al., 2017)
Qualitative analysis of all the risk factors is done in which evaluation of the qualitative strategies is
done so as to mitigate the risk
Quantitative analysis is another aspect attached with the risk in which calculation of all the
possibilities is done so as to ensure that accuracy could be maintained (Kaczmarska, and Gierulski,
2015).
Risk monitoring and controlling is the last step which is required to be taken into consideration
which helps in managing the changes. At every step of the project it is required that risk should be
monitored and things could get controlled in a proper as well as effective way.
