Section C: Manage Unchangeable Change in Project Management
Introduction
Changes in project management are required due to a number of different reasons. One of
the reasons is that the project is moving out of scope and beyond the control of the project
manager. Another main reason behind the change is the changed requirement of the client i.e. the
client may request in the project when it is already underway (Hornstein 2015). However, this
type of abrupt change should not be made immediately without the consultation of the project
manager or the project governing body.
In this essay, the provided case has been analyzed in order to understand the concept of
managing unchangeable changes and how it affects the overall performance and other aspects of
the project.
Manage Unchangeable Change
Unchangeable changes in a project are those that are not permitted by the project
governing policies of the organisation (Kerzner 2017). However, in some cases, including the
case provided in this assignment, these changes are implemented in the project anyway, without
prior consultation or permission of the project manager or the project governing body. Hence,
although these changes are made to satisfy the requirements of the client, these are not as per the
policies of the organisation and are not authorized by the project governing body (Meredith,
Mantel Jr and Shafer 2017). In case of any change management, it is important to request
consultation of the project manager or the project governing body. In addition, detailed
justification must be provided regarding why the changes are required and how these changes

fulfil / do not fulfil the project governance and management policies of the organization (Binder
2016). If the governing body decides that the change request is valid and comply with the project
management policies of the organisation, approval will be granted to proceed with the changes
(Stark 2015). On the other hand, if the changes do not comply with the policies, they are rejected
unless there is an exceptional case.
Conclusion
It is clear that the project team members do not have the authority to implement any
change in the project even if it is beneficial for the project or is requested by the client. The
change management process should follow a specific sequence and must be approved by the
project manager or the project governance body. The change can be implemented once the
governing body provides approval and on rejection, the changes have to be dropped altogether.
