INTRODUCTION
The application of processes, knowledge and skills in order to achieve the goals and
objectives of a project. It is an important component in order to complete a project as it ensures
that the client receives the right deliverables (Bjorvatn and Wald, 2018). There are many benefits
of effective project management, like it helps in prioritising the resources available within the
business and ensure that they are used efficiently. The project for this report is to build a one-
bedroom house bungalow. The client has provided certain specifications that need to be
delivered on time. If the project is managed effectively, the output will be delivered within the
provided time frame. Therefore, it is important for the project manager to take informed
decisions so that the project is completed properly.
Business Case
Business Problem
The business problem in this case is that the client wants to build a one bedroom house
bungalow. This is because the current area is not sufficient and also, there is a lack of resources.
This is the reason why the client wants to get a new bungalow built. The bungalow will be built
in a time span of 6 months.
Benefits
The benefits of undertaking this project will be that the there will be a better availability
of resources (Bredillet, Tywoniak and Tootoonchy, 2018). Also, the area in which the house
bungalow will be built, will be better as compared to the existing one.
Stakeholder Analysis
This is an analysis which can help an organisation in identifying the different
stakeholders of the company based on their levels of power as well as interest. A stakeholder
analysis is described below -
High Power, High Interest – Stakeholders that come under this category are considered
to be the most important stakeholders for the company. They should always be kept happy and
be informed about the progress of the project regularly. The general manager and owner of the
project will come in this category.

High Power, Low Interest – Stakeholders who come under this category possess high
power and low interest in the project. It is important to keep these stakeholders satisfied. But it is
important to keep in mind that these stakeholders should be over-communicated with, as it can
lead them to lose their interest in the project. Customers, investors and sponsors fall into this
category.
Low Power, High Interest – These stakeholders should be kept informed about the
project and should be checked-in with regularly (Stakeholder Analysis, 2020). This is done in
order to make sure that they do not face any issues with the project. Suppliers and employees in
this category.
Low Power, Low Interest – These stakeholders should only be informed about the
project periodically. This is because they possess low power as well as low interest. The
receptionist, security guard come under this category.
Therefore, stakeholder analysis is an important framework that can help the respective
organisation in identifying the right stakeholders and communicating with them from time to
time. This will lead to better decision-making and keeping the stakeholders satisfied as well.

The primary objective of the client behind undertaking this project of building a new one-
bedroom house bungalow is to have a better accessibility of resources. A SMART objective for
the same is stated below -
 To ensure the completion of project within 6 months for a given budget of £60,000 in
order to have a better accessibility of resources.
Work Breakdown Structure
A work breakdown structure is a structure which is used in project management in order
to break down a project into small and manageable tasks. It is an important component that helps
in reducing the amount of complications in a project (Kerzner, 2018). Therefore, it is important
for a project manager to monitor all the activities effectively so that there is no confusion among
the project members regarding their roles and responsibilities. Not only this, a work breakdown
structure also allows the project team to estimate the costs, risks as well as time in a much more
effective way.

The above work breakdown structure will help the project manager in monitoring the
various activities of the process effectively. Also, they will be able to track the progress of the
project. This is because it will outline the various activities separately. The project manager can
easily track the progress of the project and manage the performance of each team member
closely. A work breakdown structure also helps the project manager in preparing a schedule so
that the different project activities are carried out in time (Kivilä, Martinsuo and Vuorinen,
2017). This can lead to the project getting completed on time and based on the specifications
provided by the client. In case of this project, the client wants a one-bedroom house bungalow to
be constructed. This will include different activities. The activities are divided and grouped
under four categories, planning, construction, furnishings and finalisation. This way, the project
manager will be able to manage these activities effectively and deliver the final completed
project to the client on time.

Activity List
In order to build a one-bedroom house bungalow, there are different activities that will be
involved. The same are described below -
Planning Stage Purchasing land and its registration – This is the initial stage before starting the project
and will involve planning the land where the house bungalow has to be built and then
purchasing the same. One the land is purchased, it has to be registered with the concerned
development authority.
 Consulting the architect and engineer – After finalising the land and its registration, an
experienced architect as well as engineer will be consulted. Although there roles might
overlap with each other, this task is important (McClory, Read and Labib, 2017). The
architect will be provide an appropriate design as well as draw a plan for the house
bungalow. On the other hand, the engineer will play a role in making sure that the
specifications provided by the client are fulfilled and the design which is developed by
the architect is functional as well as safe at the same time.
Construction Stage Bore Well – Next up, a bore well will be drilled near to the house and the shock waves
that are generated during the drilling process can be abandoned through the layers of rock
and soil. Pillars – A pillar will be constructed with the help of timber, concrete and steel having a
good strength. It will help in effectively supporting the building. Soil Filling in Trenches – This process is also known as back filling and involves putting
the soil back into a trench after the excavation work has been done (Meredith, Shafer and
Mantel Jr, 2017). This process requires staff members who are skilled and can handle
heavy equipment effectively. They should also possess effective knowledge of the
different specifications as well as condition of the soil. Brick Work – This is another important activity during construction as it will help in
setting up a structure of the bungalow. Either cement or mud can be used for brick work
based on the type of bricks that are being used in the process. The different types of
bricks include concrete bricks, burnt clay bricks, engineering bricks etc.

 Ducts for Electrical Wiring – Once the brick work has been done and the structure has
become strong, the nest activity is installing ducts for electrical wiring in the bungalow.
Ducts can be referred to rigid and strong trays which are used typically for wires and
electric cables. Frames for Doors and Windows – After installing the ducts, the nest step is to install
frames for doors as well as windows (Müller, Drouin and Sankaran, 2019). The frames
are usually made up of wood and fit to the exact size of the wall opening. Once the
frames are fixed to the walls, the windows and doors are attached to them.
 Water and Heat Treatment – There are different water as well as heat treatments and they
are used based on the requirement.
Furnishings Stage Tiling and Flooring – The third stage in building a one-bedroom house bungalow is tiling
and flooring. This is an important activity as it helps in bringing the interiors of the

analyse the strengths as well as weaknesses. The same are described below -

Predictable – One of the strengths is that any potential risks will be predicted easily and
the project manager will be able to take effective measures.
Standardisation – Any source of misdirection will be eliminated and the goals as well as
objectives of the project will be achieved effectively.
Weaknesses
Complex – Besides having many strengths, there are certain weaknesses associated with
the PRIENCE theory. It can be a little complex to understand and implement the same.
Unrealistic – Some steps in this theory can seem to be unrealistic and can hinder the

structured manner. Gantt charts are a useful tool that are usually used by project managers in
order to schedule and plan projects effectively (Shirley, 2020). On the other hand, a critical path
can be defined as a sequence of different activities that form the longest duration of time. As a
result, the project manager can determine the most efficient time duration.
The Gantt chart will allow the project manager in scheduling the different activities of the
project efficiently. Apart from this, the manager will also be able to make sure that the activities
are completed within their respective timelines.

Budget Modelling can be defined as a financial model which is used in order to develop a
budget. The process comprises of management of different future costs as well as revenues. The
project manager keeps updating the document as and when new information about the budget is
obtained. A budget is commonly used in organisations as it helps the managers in allocating the
money to different activities in an effective manner so that the resources are utilized in an
effective way (Radujković and Sjekavica, 2017). Preparing a structured budget and following it
can help in eliminating any kind of debt and completing the project efficiently. There are certain
expenses that cannot be seen beforehand and usually come up during the project. Therefore, a

very important to understand the cash position of a company in order to carry out a project in an
effective manner. The main cash outflows can involve payment to labour, tools and machineries
as well as purchasing raw materials. A cash flow statement is described below -

Project Execution Challenges
There can be various challenges that can come up before, during or after the project is
completed. Some of the challenges can include a lack of effective labour, lack of time and funds
etc. These challenges can have an impact on the overall final product, when the project is
completed (Willumsen and et. al., 2019). If there will be a lack of experienced and skilled
employees, the project of building a one-bedroom house bungalow will not be able to carried out
effectively. Similarly, a lack of funds can also affect the quality of materials that are used in the
construction process.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that project management is an important
component for ensuring that the project is completed within the provided time frame from the
client. WBS or work breakdown structure can be used in order to breakdown a complex project
into small and manageable tasks, so that it is easy for the project manager to monitor the overall
progress of the project. A Gantt chart can also be used to plan and schedule the different
activities of the project.
