Personal Traits to be possessed by project manager
The personal traits that are to be possessed by the project manager to complete a project
successfully are
1. Strong Leadership skill: Project manager should have the ability to lead others and
proper execution of project is to be done by project manager only (Ballesteros-Sánchez, Ortiz-
Marcos & Rodríguez-Rivero, 2019). Leadership skills includes training, job experience and
mentorship in the project that project management should possess.
2. Proper communication skill: Project manager should have communication skill so that
they can pursue others and have a proper communication with the project team members. This
would help the project managers to manage the project properly and be honest and prompt with
the project team members.
3. Negotiation skill: Along with the communication skill, there is a negotiation skill that
is to be managed by the project managers. There are project managers who has to negotiate with
the project budgets, project schedules, and negotiate using of project resources. Project manager
should understand the different perspective in the project and needs to complete the project by
proper negotiation.
4. Risk Management: The project manager should also have the capability to manage the
risk in the project and project management should include risk mitigating strategies for
mitigating the risks in the project.
5. Proper organization and planning skills: The project management should have proper
organizational skill that is the manager should be organized so that he can manage all the
resources from scheduling the project and monitoring the project (Araújo et al., 2016). Planning

skills are equally important for all project manager to possess as they are considered as
synergistic element to complete a project successfully. The project that does not have proper
planning lack of budget, lack of resources and might not get completed in the required time.
Methods to be used in project selection and their processes
From my observation, I have noticed that ABC organization uses the methods of project
selection in project that are handled by them. ABC is the one of the top listed company of
Australia and manages about 10,000 employees. For facilitating the information of project
management and addressing requirements of project communication, the company has used the
method of project selection in their projects. The methods that are used in their projects are:
1. Implementing methods that includes benefit measurement: Implementing these
methods includes methods that are directly used by the project managers (Morton, Keisler, &
Salo, 2018). This method helps to rate the potentiality of the projects as per some particular
model and helps to compare the results between candidates of projects. The methods included
are cost benefit ratio (CBA), economic model, payback period, Net Present value (NPV),
discounted cash flow and scoring models.
2. Should implement constrained optimization method: This particular method is used
where the projects are larger and this method is capable of handling complex projects this
includes mathematical calculations that are to be performed in the project. The methods included
in the optimization method are methods of linear programming, non-liner programming, integer
programming, and multiple objective programming (Wu, Toussaint & Messer, 2017). Both the
methods are equally important for completing the projects in an organization and are used as
project selection method.

As per the post, student has defined project management. But the assessment question
states to define the different competencies that project manager needs to implement while
managing a project. Student has only written the definition of project management that was not
required for the project assessment. Student has explained the traits of the project manager but
that is very less and that should have been elaborated by student.
The student has explained his previous working experience in some other companies and
has written them to explain his previous experience with project management. But the student
has not explained the methods that are used in project selection and project processes. This was
to be explained in the initial post to complete the assignment. Definition in the initial post was
not needed and that has just increased the words in the assessment.
I would also like to highlight that the student has used in texting for the references that he
has used for. In texting states that the content in the assessment file is written by the student and
he has researched for completing the assignment. The student also should have written the initial
post along with headings as it becomes very much difficult to read the content continuously and
differentiate which question it answers. As there were two question in the initial post, there
should have been two headings in the initial post so that readers would find it easy to read the
post. Headings and paragraphs makes the writing easier to read and looks better.
Note: Please change the highlighted parts with the name of the student in reply
post.
