Phases of project management in implementing a ERP system in a bank
Different phases of project management that was applied on the project to implement an
ERP system in a bank are described below:
1. Project Initiation: In the project initiation phase, the need of carrying out the project
was identified first and the opportunity as well as brainstorm team so that they can meet the
project goal (Cagliano, Grimaldi, and Rafele 2015). The project initiation in developing the ERP
system includes collecting all the information related to the present system in the bank and
documenting them accordingly.
2. Project Planning: In this phase, after the project plan is being done, the project is to be
approved from the bank manager and the bank director. Only after the approval, the project is
forwarded to the planning phase. In planning phase, the project initial plan and the project future
plan is divided in to many smaller sub phases so that goal can be achieved easily.
3. Project Execution: In project execution plan, the plan of the project including the
implementation of the ERP system is includes. New systems are allocated in the bank and the
systems are connected to the network so that the ERP system can be implemented (Lock 2017).
The project execution also includes documenting the work that is done so far and testing the
system that have already connected with the ERP system.
4. Project Performance and control: In this phase, thr performance of the project ERP
system that is being installed in the bank is tested and all the KPI are measured ckeceking if the
system that is installed in the bank works properly in the system.

5. Project Closure: In project closure phase, the CEO and the director of the bank sign
offs the project from the contract taking all the necessary documents and the having training to
the employees of the bank that they understand the system of ERP and can use the system.

Most important skill that project manager has in handling this project is:
Effective skill of communication: Most important skill that project manager should
possess is having communication skill. For being a successful project manager, he should be a
communicator first (Kerzner 2017). The project manager in this project includes a good
communication skill that helped to complete the project successfully. For managing a project
clear communication is always necessary that helps to create the project goal, the project
responsibility, state the performance of the project as well as includes feedback of the project.
The project manager in this project possesses this skill.
