Change and innovation are taking place in our daily life every day, whether it is an
area such as technology or healthcare or even space exploration. Each of these innovations is
typically brought to the customers or the consumers by a team of brilliant people led by
project managers (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). Project management has different
methodologies which are essential to understanding to plan, implement and evaluate the
project. Nowadays organization are taking up and implementing various project management
methodologies to benefit in their project success. One such organization that is discussed in
this report is the organization of Huawei.
Organisation overview
Huawei is one of the leading providers of information and communication
infrastructure around the globe. It was founded in the year 1987. The integrated solutions
that Huawei provides consists of four key fields which are smart devices, telecom networks,
IT and cloud services. The organization is committed to conveying in new digital services for
establishing a thoroughly intelligent and connected world. The organization of Huawei has
more than 180000 employees working for it operating in more than 170 countries around the
globe. The product portfolio of Huawei is both secured as well as competitive to the market.
By enabling open collaboration system, Huawei offers value to its customers by inspiring
innovation in the organization. The projects that Huawei delivers focus on customer needs,
and thus it is necessary to use proper project management methodology to process with their
plans and provide them with the expected outcome.

Project management methodology of Huawei
Huawei uses both traditional and agile project management methodology to deliver its
projects. To implement plans successfully by ensuring the quality of the deliverables and the
project cost control, Huawei uses the waterfall methodology of project management in its
different projects (Špundak, 2014).
Waterfall project management methodology
Origin
Waterfall methodology or also known as the traditional method of software
development originated along with the software development industries. The use of this
methodology started from the year 1950 when to create any software, a typical hardware
development method was followed. At that point of the stage, the waterfall model of project
management was regarded as one of the innovative approaches towards software
development.
Description of the Waterfall model methodology
Waterfall methodology is one of the outdated and time-proven projects administration
approaches. The model of waterfall permits the implementation of significant and
multifaceted plans that are very hard or exclusive or even unbearable to alteration after the
program has already begun (Despa, 2014). A waterfall is a direct approach that assumes
steady crusade from one accomplished phase to the other. The most significant critical feature

for growth with each phase being patterned to follow the original plan and fit the

Advantages
Waterfall model is highly advantageous for projects having a massive scale, and the

functional software is produced during the life cycle of the projects. Waterfall model of
project management methodology is not always a proper project management methodology
for the complex and object-oriented projects.

Among all the alternative types of project management methodology rather than the
Waterfall model of project management is the Lean Project management methodology.
Lean Project Management methodology
Origin
The Lean project management methodology was derived from the production system
of Toyota, Henry Ford and various other predecessors. The term originated in Japan. This
type of project management is usually used in the manufacturing field, but nowadays it is
applied in almost all spheres especially where customer satisfaction is the main aim.
Description of Lean Project Management Methodology
A lean system methodology is a type of procedure for project management that places
heavy emphasis on reducing waste and improving processes (Sunder, 2016). The whole point
of applying the method is to bring the most excellent client satisfaction with the least amount
of resources in the fastest time possible. The five principles of Lean project management are
as follows:
1. To identify customers a specified value
2. To create flow while eliminating waste
3. To respond to customer pull
4. To determine a map of the value stream
5. To pursue perfection
The principles of lean project management thinking are all about value. The project
management methodology aims at removing the bottlenecks in the project process to
speed the project along its way.

Advantages
Lean project management, methodology harnesses the way to remove wastes to run
more efficiently and to deliver better results for the customers and clients of the project
(Ansah, Sorooshian & Mustafa, 2016). Lean project management is advantageous as it
reduces the completion time and offers a plan on time. It also helps in increasing efficiency
through standardisation and improves the quality of the final product.
Disadvantages
Some of the problems of lean project management methodology are-
1. Equipment failure: Equipment failure in lean project management can lead to the
collapse of the entire project.
2. Delivery inconsistency: As a result of equipment failure, this may often lead to a
difference in the deliverables leading to affect the customer relationship and may lead
them to move towards competitors.
Recommendation
As the overall organization of Huawei focusses on enabling a customer-centric
experience by the delivery of their projects, it is thus recommended to use the lean project
management methodology in their project management system (Seymour & Hussein, 2014).
This would help them in gaining better customer reviews and will assist them in delivering
better projects to their client while reducing the overall project completion time (Braude &
Bernstein, 2016).

use suitable project management methodologies to organise their projects in times, providing

necessary to adopt an appropriate framework that helps the organization in gaining their main
goal towards delivering each project. A proper project management methodology is the key
to get success while planning and executing the projects in providing significant outcomes to
