PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. Individual report
1.1 Three different project management methodologies and their suitability in the project
According to the PMI, a project management methodology is mainly referred as one of
the system of techniques, processes as well as practices that are mainly utilized for providing
guidance to the project manager (Joslin & Muller, 2015). The main purpose of the project
methodology is to control the processes of project with the help of effective decision as well as
problem solving techniques by ensuring the success of specific approaches, techniques, methods
as well as methodologies. There are number of project management methodologies that can be
applied within the development of online simulation game for the undergraduate Veterinary
nursing course. The different types of methodologies that can be applied for the development of
online simulation game are generally elaborated below.
Scrum project management methodology
Scrum is considered as one of the agile way in order to manage a project quite
successfully. It is found that SCRUM methodology can be applied within the development of
online simulation game when working with Iwi/Mori community as SCRM helps in providing
proper framework for the continuous feedback for making sure that the quality that is maintained
is quite high. It is stated by Harmsworth (2005) that participation of Iwi/Maori is often
documented properly with the help of proper strategy reports that still reflects the major issues
and challenges that are associated with partnership, improper recognition as well as due to
improper management in the procedure of decision making. In addition to this, it is found that
the utilization of SCRM methodology helps in decreasing time to market. It is found that in order
to use the SCRM methodology within the online game simulation, it is quite necessary to

separate the highest priority based requirement from the lower priority based requirement in
order to deliver proper value to the customers (Srivastava, Bhardwaj & Saraswat, 2017). As the
new system wants to add some new functionalities like real time chat as well as
videoconferencing within the online game simulation system therefore with the utilization of
SCRM methodology, all these functionalities can be developed quite easily. In addition to this, it
is identified that the SCRM project management methodology helps in enabling happier project
sponsors with the help of proper collaboration with the customers. Moreover, the application of
the SCRUM development can generally help in minimizing the cost of production.
Waterfall
According to Mahadevan, Kettinger and Meservy (2015), waterfall model is considered
as one of the linear or sequential design approach for certain areas of the engineering design. It is
one of the sequential model that helps in dividing the software development into number of
different phases. The waterfall methodology can be applied for the development of online
simulation game for the undergraduate Veterinary nursing course when working with Iwi/Mori
community. It is found that from the perspective of Iwi/Maori, management plans are generally
creating long term impact on the planning of project as well as in determining the proper
methodology for the project. This methodology can be applied within the project for completing
each step of project development quite successfully by performing quality assurance test before
the completion stage of the project. As the waterfall methodology is simple, it is quite easy for
the project managers to understand the various phases of the project including the project
requirement and as a result the development of online simulation game can be executed quite
successfully (Patwardhan et al., 2016). With the utilization of waterfall methodology, the project
manager cannot move to the next phase of the project until the previous phase of the project gets

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
completed. One of the important defining step for the waterfall methodology is that it helps in
determining the end goal of the project and always focus on the goal then a clean transfer of
information is provided at each step as the waterfall approach is very much methodical which
helps in maximizing the benefits. If waterfall methodology is used for the development of online
simulation game, then the project managers are unable to make unexpected changes or revisions
within the system (Weber, 2016). Moreover, the other problem that can be faced includes delay
within testing after the completion of the project as well as the exclusion of the clients as well as
end user from the project.
CCPM (Critical chain project management)
Critical chain project management is considered as one of the method that helps in
planning as well as managing projects that further helps in emphasizing the resources that are
generally needed in order to execute the project tasks. It is considered as one of the method that
helps in allowing one of properly plan, execute as well as managing the project quite
successfully. It is found that this project management methodology can also be applied for the
development of online simulation game for the undergraduate Veterinary course when working
with Iwi/Mori community as with the help of CCPM, the time as well as cost that is associated
with the project can be reduced . It is opined by Jo, Lee and Pyo (2018) that providing proper
interaction with the users in context to Maori values generally helps in creating strong
relationship as the Iwi/Maori values are generally considered to be important for creating strong
community relationship. In addition to this, the utilization of CCPM methodology helps in
detecting the problems quite effectively that generally affects the project and generally utilizes
the resources quite efficiently. On the other hand, it is stated by Paprocka, Gwiazda and
Bączkowicz (2017) that the utilization of critical chain project management method generally

requires commitment from the project manager, project team member as well as other
stakeholders who are mainly associated with the project. It is analyzed that without commitment
of CCPM method is applied for developing the online simulation game, then the project will fail
and then one needs to utilize broken implementation of CCPM that helps in providing little or no
benefit but extra cost overhead.
1.2 Recommendation for the most appropriate methodology
After analyzing the three different project management methodology, it is found that
SCRM project methodology is the most appropriate methodology when working with Iwi/Mori
organisations for the development of online simulation game for the Veterinary nursing course.
This project methodology is mainly selected by focussing on the Maori group and for creating
proper plan that would be helpful in focussing on the requirements of the project (Harmsworth,
2005). The another important reason of selecting this particular methodology is due to its
applicability on the Maori principles especially in tikanga framework which would further
helpful in developing proper relationship with the Iwi group. It is stated by Fustik (2017) that
SCRUM is helpful in completing as well as delivering the project about 40% time faster as
compared to other project management methodologies. With the help of this methodology,
regular update is necessary and it is found that each and every change that are mainly required
within the progress of the project can be done immediately which will be quite beneficial for the
development of the project. In addition to this, the most important advantage of SCRUM due to
which it is used is that it helps in delivering the projects in decreased time within the market .
Furthermore, it is identified that Kanohi ki Kanohi is one of the most preferred strategy that is
mainly preferred by the Maori for maintaining proper relations and for communicating properly
so that they can be able to utilize the project methodology quite effectively. so that According to

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Vladimir and Nikita (2018), SCRUM assists in providing a chance to the project team members
to be creative throughout the project such that the emissions that are taken by each of the
individual on team helps in providing self-sufficiency for completing the work. It is opined by
Chowdhury et al. (2018) that with the help of SCRUM methodology, the project team can be
able to collaborate as well as take proper ownership of the quality as well as performance of the
project with the help of sprint planning meetings in order to allow the development team to
properly organize the work around the various business based priorities. Thus, it is found that
online simulation game will be developed by Otago effectively by utilizing the SCRUM project
methodology effectively.
1.3 Role of project management in achieving successful outcomes
The project management mainly plays an important role in achieving successful
outcomes within the project. According to Todorovic et al. (2015), project management can be
considered as a hard skill for acquiring and it generally comes with time investment. Project
management helps in clearly defining the plan of the project before the initiation phase of the
project and it is found that the project planning is one of the important contributor within the
success of the project. With the help of proper planning, proper idea about the project objectives
can be achieved by taming the chaos that occur at the beginning of the project. It is stated by
Hornstein (2015) that project management helps in scheduling the projects effectively that
further helps in eliminating the delays as well as overruns within the project and helps in
completing the project work within the time that is expected by the project manager. In addition
to this, project management helps in developing proper base for project teamwork which further
helps in making the project successful. It is considered as one of synergy benefit that is mainly
achieved with the help of sharing as well as supporting the knowledge as well as skills of the

team member. Moreover, it is found that proper project management concept helps in
maximizing resources, managing integration as well as helps in keeping control on the costs of
the project (Joslin and Muller, 2015). Proper management of project helps in managing the cost
of the project by keeping track on the budget of the project and generally helps in avoiding cost
overrun. Furthermore, project management helps in determining, managing as well as controlling
the quality of the project which further helps in achieving success in the project by satisfying the
customers or clients.
