Report
AI Summary
This report provides a comprehensive analysis of a project management assignment based on the PMBOK framework. It begins with an introduction to the project, focusing on Fujitsu Technology Solutions' need to outsource web service support. The report then delves into the creation and significance of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and a Gantt chart for the project, highlighting their roles in successful project scheduling and budget management. A network diagram is presented, followed by the identification of the critical path and a discussion of the measures necessary to ensure project completion within time and cost constraints. The report also examines the significance of the Critical Path Method (CPM) in risk management, particularly within the context of the Fujitsu case study. The analysis includes the calculation of forward pass, and backward pass to identify the critical path. The conclusion summarizes the benefits of the project and the importance of the project management tools. The report references relevant literature to support its findings. The assignment addresses the challenges faced by Fujitsu, the solutions implemented, and the positive outcomes achieved through the application of PMBOK principles.

INFO701/1901 – Assignment (PMBOK)
1. Introduction
The paper mainly reflects on “Fujitsu Technology Solutions” which is one of the
leading European IT infrastructure providers that have presence in all the different markets of
Europe, India as well as Middle East and Africa. The company generally helps in providing
proper portfolio for the various types of IT services, IT solutions as well as IT products. It is
found that in the year 2005, the organization mainly experiences high maintenance costs in
the UK based development centre and for reducing the issue without disrupting its service,
the company mainly looked for outsourcing the various types of web service to an offshore
provider. In addition to this, the organization wants to transfer a number of different types of
business systems that generally demanded expertise within the Microsoft technologies.
Furthermore, it is found that as one of the Microsoft Gold certified partner since the year
2002, the organization mainly wants to establish proper maintenance centre that is mainly
staffed with various IT professionals. Additionally Rekoft trained the Fujitsu team to full
competencies of MOSS2007 and accomplished integration of both MOSS as well as SAP
platform.
This report helps in reflecting the WBS and Gantt chart and how they are significant
for the project. In addition to this, the network diagram as well as critical path is also
showcased with proper calculation. In addition to this, the measures which are mainly needed
needs to be considered for ensuring accomplishment and the project and further elaborate the
significance of CPM in project risk management.

4. Significance of WBS and Gantt chart
It is found that as per PMBOK area of knowledge, the WBS and Gantt chart which is
developed is mainly helpful in making the web service support project successful and assists
in avoiding the chances of project failure. It is found that the utilization of both Gantt chart
and WBS plays an important role in managing the progress of the project and helps in
successfully scheduling the project so that the entire project gets completed within the
estimated budget and time (Binder, 2016). It is found that the Gantt assists in providing
proper clarity for properly understanding about the web service support project which further
leads to successful completion of the project and assists in avoiding challenges. The most
important benefit of WBS is that it helps in preventing the slippage of the project with the
help of cracks and further facilities proper communication with the team members and
stakeholders of the project for finishing the work of the project (Marchewka, 2016). The
problem of budget overflow as well as delay can be avoided by keeping track on the project
with the help of Gantt chart and thus it is analyzed that both WBS and Gantt chart are critical
for the success of the project that avoids project issues.
5. Network diagram
A network diagram is one of the visual representations of the entire project (Kerzner
& Saladis, 2017). It is found that for developing the project, the activities that are executed
are generally reflected with the help of the diagram that is provided below.

6. Critical path and measures
The critical path that is identified from the above figure is
1.1>1.2>1.3>1.4>2.1>2.2>2.3>2.4>3.1>3.2>3.3>3.4>3.5>4.1>4.2>4.3
It is found that the critical path of the project mainly comprises of the longest
sequence of various project activities from the starting till the finishing phase of the project
for ensuring that the entire project get accomplished on time (Nisar & Suzuki, 2015). It is
Page 7 of 11

INFO701/1901 – Assignment (PMBOK)
quite necessary to manage the activities that are present in the critical path and if any of the
project activities get slipped then it is very much necessary to take proper action so that the
entire project will be on schedule (Novitasari, Sandora & Lestari, 2018). Furthermore, by
following critical path while executing project activities not only helps in achieving success
but also assists in delaying the entire project.
7. Significance of CPM in risk management
Critical path method is considered as one of the algorithm that is mainly utilized for
planning, managing as well as analyzing the timing of the entire project. It is found that the
CPM helps in determining both the critical path as well as the non-critical project activities
from the starting phase of the project and thus helps in preventing different types of
temporary risk in the project (Marchewka, 2016). It is found that the critical path method is
mainly utilized within the web service support development project so that the entire project
can be executed as per the schedule and any risks related with the project can be resolved
effectively. In addition to this, it is found that earned value management mainly reflects on
the critical path method and helps in identifying different types of schedule related risks in
the project (Agyei, 2015). Other schedule generally has slack time that helps in avoiding the
delay in the project and thus assists in determining the issues which the project faces. Thus, it
can be analyzed that critical path method utilization in the project of Fujitsu Technology
Solutions is helpful in resolving issues and challenges.
8. Conclusion
It can be concluded from the entire paper that the development of web services within
Fujitsu Technology solutions not only helps in resolving issues but also helps in smooth
handover of the project is achieved. In addition to this, proper operational efficiency of
various web support services is found and the entire key performances indicators which are

associated with the project are met. Moreover, it is analyzed that significant recurring cost
reduction within the web service support is found due to the implementation of the project.
Furthermore, it is analyzed from the entire report that utilization of ant chart, WBS as well as
network diagram plays an important role in achieving success and avoiding the risks which
are linked with the project.
