AI Summary
This project report delves into project management principles using the Uber case study as a practical example. It begins by outlining the importance of project selection and planning, emphasizing the need for a clear understanding of project scope, resource allocation, and stakeholder expectations. The report then explores various project management approaches, including the Waterfall, Agile, and Scrum models, assessing their suitability for the Uber scenario, with a preference towards the Agile model. Furthermore, it discusses the use of project management tools like network diagrams, Gantt charts, and scheduling software. The report also highlights the critical aspect of risk assessment, emphasizing the need to identify, analyze, and mitigate potential risks throughout the project lifecycle. The conclusion summarizes the key takeaways, underscoring the significance of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) in ensuring successful project execution. The application of these principles is expected to enhance Uber's market position through the development of a new application for drivers.

2PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES
1. Introduction:
The main aim of this paper actually is to show the selection procedure of the project.
This paper will also be comprising of a properly detailed elaboration regarding the starting
procedures of the project which has been mentioned. For the purpose of initiating any kind of
project it is really very much essential to select a proper selection method of the project
which will be helping a lot in providing high effectiveness in the project development (Wu,
Toussaint & Messer, 2017). Following this particular aspect, there is also an explanation
regarding the importance of a proper management process of the project. There is also a
description of the specific reason regarding why a project which has been selected will be
perfect for the scenario of the case which has been mentioned by directly comparing it some
other procedures. Apart from the description of the selection process of the project as well as
the process of management it will also be comprising of the risk assessment as well which
will be totally related to the project which has been mentioned. At last, there will be a
conclusion which will be clearly providing a short discussion which will be based upon the
importance of this particular elaboration which has been mentioned above.
2. Discussion:
There is huge significant role of the selection of a proper planning of the project for
any kind of development as a proper and an effective plan of the project and this will be very
much helpful for the developer in understanding the scope of the project (Yavuz & Altay,
2015) which has been approached in the nearer future and also its effectiveness in organizing
the process of work. For specifying the investment which will be very much needed for the
development of project is also considered to be very much important which can be properly
addressed only by a proper planning of the management of the project (Salehi, 2015). There
are also a number of aspects which have been present and which are very much required to be

accounted. As per the scenario of the case, the main objective of the project is the delivery of
such an application to all of their drivers which will be holding the huge capability of guiding
all the customers and even the drivers as well. The plan which has been approached will be
reducing the company’s cost by directly maximizing the use of time.
Some of the very crucial aspects have been mentioned below:
Understanding of the importance of the project which has been approached and check
how the project will be beneficial for the organization which has been targeted.
Checking if the use of the resources which have been available can be maximized.
Checking if the project will be able to address the expectations of the stakeholders and the
customers as well (Kerzner, 2017).
Checking if it will be helping the organization in enhancing the position in the market,
share in the market and also the profit.
Checking if new customers can be engaged or not.
Checking all the possible risks present in the project which has been approached.
Knowing the process of the improvement of the recent organization’s status.
2.1 Approaches for Management of Project:
It is very much important to choose a proper management plan for the project which
has been selected. There are a number of approaches of project management like the
Waterfall Model, Scrum Model, Agile method and the CPM.
Waterfall Model:
This is considered to be one of the highly effective process of management. This
particular method is known to be following a particular sequence because this particular
method is very much strict regarding all the requirements which are needed to be pre-selected
(Alshamrani & Bahattab, 2015). For applying this particular method for developing the

project, it is very much necessary to possess a crystal clear effective plan as there will be no
back tracking process at all in the method of the development of the project. This
methodology will be comprising of certain steps like:
Identification of the requirements
Analysis of the plan which has been approached
Designing of the project
Implementation of the project
Testing
Deployment of the project it passes
Maintenance of the project which has been deployed
This particular procedure is considered to be one of the oldest method of the management
of project and it holds a limitation which is significant and this affects the development
process of the project.
Agile Model:
With the other types of project development model the agile type of software
development model is one of the most appropriate method. There some differences in this
type of software development methodology when this is compared other types of
methodologies that are used for the software development process (Lano, 2017). This type of
software development methodologies actually promotes continuous type of iteration in the
testing and development phases of software development lifecycle. In this case both of the
testing and the development activities are concurrent which is not in the case of waterfall
model (Bayona, Bustamante & Saboya, 2018). This type of methodology is having four types
of core values which are team and the individual interaction over the tools and processes,
responding to the changes over a plan that has been followed previously, working software

over the comprehensive type of documentation and collaboration with the customers over the
negotiation with the customers. Agile methodology does not wants any type of fixed
requirements and it is the most important advantage of this methodology (Bayona, Saboya &
Bustamante, 2018). With that there is no fixed plan and this create problem in this case as
prediction of the required man power and resources becomes impossible.
Scrum Model:
Scrum model for the development of any type of project is very much important as it
does not follows any type of tradition regarding the master slave (Hayat & Qureshi, 2016).
Instead of, the scrum model actually moves the project to the centre and further proceeds with
the software development program in which every members from the development team gets
involved. In this case for the Uber case study the scrum model is quite acceptable (Siegelaub,
2017).
In this section mainly three types of project management model has been considered
and has been discussed. For the case scenario it has been assessed that agile model of the
project management methodology is the most appropriate in this context for the Uber case
study. Both of the project requirement and the project scope can be satisfied using this model.
2.2 Tools regarding Project Management:
With the selection of appropriate type of project management model in this context it
is also important to select some appropriate tools which can be utilized for proper completion
of the project. In the below section these tools are discussed properly (Varajão, Colomo-
Palacios & Silva, 2017).
Network Diagram: The network diagram is one of the important tools in the aspect of
project management as it is capable of assisting the current project in the context of
proper critical path determination.

Gantt Chart: Gantt chart is also important for the current project as this effectively
determines the schedule of the overall project with detailed timespan of each of the
steps (Ong, Wang & Zainon, 2016). Scheduling: Like the Gantt chart this tool also can help this project in the aspect of
scheduling. Also, through this type of tools overall progress of the project can be
controlled easily.
2.3 Assessment of Risks:
Risks within a project is very much important as it is very much common that every
projects faces some kind of risk which is also same for this project (Kliem & Ludin, 2019).
For this reason all the risk need to be mitigated properly so the successful completion of the
project can be achieved. For that first assessment of the risk is important through which all
the risks can be identified.
For this project all the potential risk that can occur in every phase of the project need
to be determined properly.
For assessing all of the potential risk for the project similar types of projects that has
been done earlier need to be analysed and with that feedback can be collected from
the end of the project stakeholders.
After determination of all the risks, every risks must be mitigated individually and for
that proper measures must be taken.
3. Conclusion:
All of the above discussion concludes that the concept Project Management Body of
Knowledge or the PMBOK is actually very much important for successful execution of any
type of project. In this paper important aspects of this PMBOK has been discussed in a proper
way regarding the case study of Uber. It has been assessed that while executing a project it is

very much important to consider various of important aspect of the such as project
management method and tools which has been discussed in this context. Total three types of
project management methods has been discussed here and from there agile type of project
management method has been chosen here as this was the most appropriate. Also, importance
of the project management tools for this project and the risk assessment has been discussed
here. Thus it can be mentioned that by following the above aspects for their project Uber can
enhance their market position quite largely. As the new application of the Uber will be
incorporated with the drivers of the Uber it will be quite helpful for them as they will capable
of providing the services to the nearest customer. This will actually improve the overall
utilization of the time.
