In the last summer vacations, a cottage is going to be rented. The owner of this cottage wants
to repair and renovate this cottage before giving it on rent. The owner asked me about my
skills of project management so because I learned enough amount of this in my college
studies so I decided to say yes and then he assigned me as the project manager of this
renovation of cottage project. So I made a plan to gather all the requirements for this project.
I made a budget plan according to the decided budget and diving all the activities of this
project. There are many challenges in completing this project like there are only 10 days
given by the owner to complete the project and budget is only of 20000$ which is acquired
from the bank as a loan. Being a project manager it is very hard to manage this project from a
scratch and with complete effort and quality. This is the task to test my skills as I was all
alone to manage this project and the team. I failed in completing some tasks on time but
overall the project is successful. I worked hard for gathering requirements and quality
materials. I managed the work with the team assigned for this project.
The Cottage needs to be repaired for foreigners and the interior should be based on their taste.
According to their taste and deadline, I have developed the plans for repairing the cottage
with improving all the interior and other things. I have developed a Chart for achieving all the
milestones. Gantt chart is also created for scheduling all the tasks. I have failed to manage the
schedule. MS Project manager is used for preparing schedules. Resources are managed with
reducing overloading of it. Budgeting is done as we only have 20000$ so, I have managed all
the cost accordingly. Apart from this, Progress should be monitored with time. As the higher
authority want the work status, I have created a progress report in which I have shown all the
progress. The progress should be continuing monitor and necessary action should be taken as
per the requirement. With the time it changes should be done so that the new feature can be
added (Kloppenborg, et al., 2018).
Scheduling is one of the main tasks so the work can be done on time or before time. I have
only three weeks to complete this task and give the best result. The following deadline is a
difficult task. I have enhanced the work which is needed to be performed at a time given by
the owner. Scheduling is performed accordingly so that the deadline can be followed. As it is
at beachside so the interior should give that feel to all tourist. There should be proper
facilities in the cottage (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). The budget is 20000$, so the budget plan
is made according to it and all resources and things would be accordingly. All stakeholders
are also identified who are included in the project such as contractors, workers project
managers, owner, etc. The structure is formed for understanding all the activities. The

updating of this report is also done with time. The scheduling should be more appropriated
and follow the deadline. The interior should be so attractive that it can give the feel. The cost
should also within the budget setup not exceed it (Larson & Gray, 2017).
Managing all the resources requires extra management. In the future, there can be different
things need to be added with the cottage, so work should be done in such a way that the
changes can be done easily. With the progress, Risk management is also maintained by me so
that the failure of the project is reduced. The cost is analyzed so that it can check whether the
money is spent in the right place or not. Change management is taken into consideration so
that the changes can be easily accepted in the future. As the stakeholders are also important
part so their identification is performed. After enhancing all the task, the project close is
analyzed by checking all the activities and the task and comparing with the expected
outcome. In the future, I will make ensure that the management should be more effective and
reliable. The communication should be more powerful so that everyone is aware of what to
be done and how it is done (Kerzner, 2018).
This is the reflection of my role which I had to be managed in the renovation project. This
project defines my ability to manage a project in critical conditions. For practically
implanting this project we decided to develop a documentation of planning and execution of
the project. That report defines all the task scheduling and maintenance at a higher level. I
covered all the basic requirements in the documentation So the activities will be clear to the
team members. For all over the project, I learned about maintaining and developing phases of
the project and various tasks like scheduling, budgeting, etc. I improved my communication
skills through this project. This is very clear that this project, cottage renovation succeeded by
covering up all the activities and the documentation made the easy implementation of the
project. This can be said that I am a good Project Manager.
