Introduction
A reflective essay is one of the best ways to self- reflect the experience and skill learned
during the project. The following writing is one of the Reflective essays written in context to
Assignment Task second.
The following essay starts by describing the background of the scenario in Assignment 2.
Further sections include alignment of characteristics of the project with principles. Various
problems faced while undertaking the project. Learning outcomes of the project. Experience
of the student in undertaking the project of management skills. Future consideration which
needs to be followed in further projects. And Lastly concluding the overall experience of the
project.
Background of the system
A real-world scenario was given in which a beachside cottage is inherited and renovated for
renting purpose. But before renting and to use for vacation it needs some repairing work. The
overall duration given for the completion of the project is two weeks. The budget of the
overall project should not exceed more than $ 20,000. The repairing work starts from
Monday, 1 June. The budget is further divided between different stakeholders. Supplies will
cost around $7,500., Contractor charge $ 125 for per hour. Apprentice 1 will be paid $ 60 and
Apprentice II will be given $ 40 per hour. The task assign to every project team is: owner will
do every job except painting, contractor experts in carpentry work, Apprentice 1 will do
painting and apprentice II performs all odd jobs excluding painting. The overall duration of
project completion is 2 weeks in which everyone works for 8 hours per day and 5 days a
week.
The assignment asks to give Project Report considering the practical implementation of work
break down structure, Gantt chart, timelines, EVM, risk and change management, stakeholder
mapping and communication, RACI chart, budgeting of the project, Resource overloading
and concluding the project with Project Closure.
Alignment of the project with principles of project management
The task assigned in Assignment 2 is with the goal to enhance the project planning and
management capability in the student so that they can undertake any project and plans its
strategy.

The project is made in keeping mind the various principles of project management. The
assignment second talks about various principle like: Defining the scope and goal of the
project, describing and identifying the various stakeholders, team workers and their
responsibilities, budgeting of the project, to schedule the project within the duration, to
describe various constraints in the project planning, change and Risk management strategy,
Communication and interaction with the team , Overcoming the changes made and overall
managing the project.
Problems faced during the project
The project helps in enhancing the knowledge and encountering the problems justifies that
student has learned something. During this project, various problems which were encountered
in solving the principle of project management are:
Budgeting: As the budget of the overall project was given as $ 20,000 and every workers and
supply is also given. therefore, it took me a whole lot of time to confine the budget within the
given plan.
Resource Overloading: It is given that every worker works for 8 hours per day. The task
assign to every project team is: owner will do every job except painting, contractor experts in
carpentry work, Apprentice 1 will do painting and apprentice II performs all odd jobs
excluding painting. There is more to do in little time, and I have encountered various problem
describing the section of resource overloading.
Scheduling and Timeline: It is very necessary to define the scope and duration of the project.
The given project needs to be completed within the two weeks and everyone working for 5
days per week. Duration is less and task to perform are more therefore deciding and
scheduling of task according to time is time-consuming.
Learnings from the project
The project has helped me in so many ways to enhance my knowledge and increase in the
field of project management. It increases my knowledge about work break down (WBS)
structure, Gantt chart, timelines, EVM, risk and change management, stakeholder mapping
and communication, RACI chart, budgeting of the project, Resource (Little, Bob 2011)
overloading and how to close the project. It helped me to learn about the software like MS.
Project and Ms Word. It has enhanced my writing skill and report making skills. It helped me
to think from every aspect of the project and apply creativity to ensure the success and

outcome of the project. It taught me how to draw Gantt Chart, resource overloading,
timelines and budgeting of the project. Overall it increased my experience of undertaking
real-world scenario.
Future Measures to be taken
There are still some areas where I lack my management skills, Further studies and project
will help to increase my knowledge in this filed.
I encounter various problems in implementing the principle of project Management for
example Budgeting, resource overloading and scheduling. Therefore, I need to increase my
knowledge in this filed. With the help of this Assignment, I got good command over how to
operate MS. Project this will help me in my future projects and assignments. Writing skills
and reflective writing need some attention for formally documenting the report. With the help
of this assignment, it helped me to increase my reading capacity as this theory as a principle
of project management.
Conclusion
The overall experience of making a practical implementation of principles of Project
Management and Planning has helped me to enhance and increase my knowledge in the field
of undertaking the project. Before calling myself as Manager of the Project, there are few
things which need to be improved. After undertaking this project and assignment this helped
me to understand my weakness. I discovered that there are many areas where I was unable to
apply the principles of project management. Learning about the principles of project
management and implementing in the Assignment Second and considering my experience
during the making of the project I have identified that my knowledge has increased in this
area. I am self - assured that the next assignment or project will have improved and will help
me to enhance my experience.
