Purpose of project management
Project management is nothing but a calculated activity taken with the future in mind allowing
anticipation and prediction to take wings. Given an idea, it is possible to bring - i) planning ii)
organizing and iii) controlling into the activities for the project to be successful. In such project
management activities, because there is always the possibility of untold risks creeping in, precise
prediction of the direction of events and tasks is hazy. For more complicated or advanced
projects, the completion of the project itself is clouded in doubts to achieve the desired result

The steps in project management are marked as -

What is PMO?
The department assigned with the task of overseeing the qualitative and quantitative aspects of
the project is the project management office (PMO) of the organization. It has to streamline
consistency and implementing the technical developments with proper effects in - documenting,
guiding and executing according to the parameters (Kerzner, 2018).

The PMOs may also have to indulge in strategic project management as facilitators or as
Portfolio Management process owners. Monitoring, reporting on present projects and updating to
top management for continuation or cancellation decision - all come under this umbrella
