INTRODUCTION
Management of project is a process of reviewing controlling monitoring various
activities so as to complete the overall project in an effective way. It can also be defined as
planning, organizing, monitoring and controlling numerous activities in such a way so that
each goals and objectives of the project could be achieved in an effective way. The present
assignment shows various characteristics of project along with numerous stages to be
followed in project management process. Further, it explains the purpose of project initiation
document and range of knowledge areas of project management. Moreover, it briefly explains
characteristics and importance of project managers and stakeholders in the project
management. In addition, the present report

1. Defining characteristics of any project
Project
Project can be defined as a unique and temporary process that may result in producing
any tangible or intangible results by performing range of activities as per planned procedures.
Key characteristics of a project is as under:
Unique: It is a core characteristics of any project. Each project has its own plans, aims
and objectives (Chapter 4: Project Characteristics, 2018). Further, each project can be
completed by following a different procedures.
Temporary: Each project is made and performed for a temporary basis. Each project
has a finite end. They ends after achieving all the set goals and objectives of the
project. In addition, the start and end date of the project is also decided before starting
it(Carvalho and Rabechini Junior, 2015).
Risk: Risk is the key characteristics of all projects. Each involve risk of weather it
would be completed before the end date of project, or weather all the set objectives
and aims of project would be achieved or not.
Scope: Each project have its scope. It shows the limitations upto which an activity
could be performed in the project.
Procedure: the overall procedures is set in advance as per which the project is to be
done. It is required to follow up the procedure so as to achieve the set goals.

Project management
Project management is a process of applying professional knowledge and skills for
planning, monitoring and controlling various project activities through which the set goals of
project could be achieved in an effective way(Cleden, 2017).
Key stages of managing the project are as under:
Initiation of project: Project management starts with initiation of project. At this
stage, the project are being examined properly. Scope, time, aims, objectives, decision
making, etc. are being identified an analysed at this stage.
Defining and planning activities of project: After initiating and determining all the
project activities, aims and objectives, the next stage of project management is to
develop plans, policies and strategies through which each aims of project could be
achieved. In addition, a life cycle of project is also developed so that a path could be
provided for completion of project.
Launching and execution of project procedures: Execution of all the plans and
strategies developed in the earlier stage helps the managers in determining the
efficiency and a identifying various resources that would be needed for completion of
project(Kerzner, 2017).
Monitoring and controlling project performance: After execution, monitoring all
the implemented activities is the next stage in which project manager monitors each
activities and develops strategies for controlling activities of the project.
Completion of project: It is the last stage in which the each activities are being
completely performed and all the objectives and aims are being achieved.
3. Purpose of project initiation document
Project initiation document (PID)
It is a record that includes each information of project. It helps project managers in
improving the effectiveness of their plans for project so as to achieve project goals and aims
by providing all basic and essential information of project.

Stakeholders analysis is an important part of project management. It helps project

The project is based on developing plan for London Skill Concern who performs
charity business for helping young seeking people by providing them education and
employment facilities. It also helps disadvantaged young single parent mothers by conducting
