1MANAGEMENT SKILLS FOR PROJECT PROFESSIONALS
The aim of this paper is to discuss the effectiveness of the course ENGGEN 730 that
focused on growing management skills for project professionals. There are various facets that
this course has offered to me and I have explored a whole new type of experience which I would
have never enjoyed if not come to this opportunity. This course has shaped my views regarding
various types of business and their projects and enlightened me with the knowledge about the
proper management skills needed to successful running of the business (Groysberg and
Abrahams 2014). After this course, I intend to adopt the knowledge in my personal and
professional life.
The course includes the study of core subject that is the most important thing to
understand business and the role of project managers in a project. This particular course has
influenced or my perspectives on a highly effective way to become a successful personal and
professional. This course has changed my views regarding leadership, management, their
responsibilities and functions (Deery and Jago 2015). My perspectives have shifted from being
inspired to be inspiring for others. In this course I have learnt about scheduling skill that has
changed my perception about timely completion of task. Initially I did not pay heed to the review
and maintain time to complete my projects, but through this course I have understood that I am
responsible to successful delivery of the projects in one hand and for timely delivery also
(Newman et al. 2014).
Critical thinking is another aspect of this development process. this course has offered me
various types of tools and approaches that helps me to structure different arguments logically and
make decisions properly (Mardani, Jusoh and Zavadskas 2015). Along with the core subject
studies, this course has helped me to have an all-inclusive growth. In this regard, I have gained
opportunity to increase my communication skills that is very important in catering the

expectations of the stakeholders. I have grown the capabilities of thinking creatively in
developing the proper communication channels so that I can communicate with the stakeholders
of the projects more effectively. Another very important aspect this course has revealed to me
that is the risk management process (Wang et al. 2014). the project manager work on the more
complex, unique and transformative endeavors which needs perfect risk management facet
otherwise the projects may not bring success. These are the things that influenced me to develop
myself both personally as well as professionally.
Initially I used to have very limited understanding of management and leadership and I
could not differentiate among thee two roles. After I entered this course, I properly identified the
responsibilities and how these two are strongly connected to one another. In terms of critical
thinking process, I previously could not see different angles of a problem but only focused on my
own view and made decisions. This aspect in me has completely changed after I have joined this
particular course. Now I can weigh up different aspect of an incident then find solution. Initially
I used to think that I do not need to take responsibilities of proper communication with the
stakeholders as I will be the project manager (Ten et al 2015). During this course I have
understood that communicating and properly negotiating with the stakeholders are related with
my job. Initially I had no idea about cost controlling and risk management in a project but
through this course I have understood how important these things are for the successful
completion of a project (Groysberg and Abrahams 2014).
There are some very important key learnings that I am taking away through this course. I
have grown leadership skills, negotiation and communication skills. I gained ample knowledge
about cost controlling, scheduling and critical thinking abilities of a project manager. In addition
