PPMP20012 Project Management Systems: Selection, Application & BP

Program and Portfolio Management Information systems
Introduction
A project management information system helps in executing a project for an
organization and can be generally be referred to as a coherent organization of information. PMSI
is said to be a typical one or two application of software and a process of methodical for
collecting and applying project information. These type of electronic systems aid in scoping,
designing featuring depending on an organization’s operational requirements (Kerzner H. &
Kerzner H.R 2017)).
Project Management Systems (PPMP20012)
The unit gives an introduction in system engineering and thinking which helps in offering
program portfolio managers that power to help in designing clever enduring solution to system
problems. An interdisciplinary system referring to a set of concepts and methods designed to
attain the challenges of unprecedented complexity that follows perspectives of engineering
design, development and construction to operation (Armstrong et al 2015).
System management concentrates on the designing and implementing PPM uses of application
systems in creating PPM outputs of information flow, management and decision making. The
PPPM application process is either manually or electrically implemented Armstrong et al 2015).
Discussion
The selection process of project management application system should have flowed keenly.
An appropriately selected PMS has many importance’s as it enables informed and quick decision
making for a team in a collaborative process.it also gives features to mage the entire lifecycle of

the project and gives the real updates and latest changes in the schedule. Well selected PMS has
a high level of security and allows scalability and growth of the organization (Caniëls M. C &
Bakens R. J 2012).
The PPM system is effective in knowledge management and decision making as it implements
collaboration by allowing quick decision making for the team. It allows the exchange of ideas by
the team hence describes improvement to the level of knowledge in decision making.
The electronic project is more reliable than manual as it has high accuracy in determining
problems and fast in delivering task. Despite many advantages allocated to the electronic system,
it’s exposed to high chances of insecurity such as hacking as it is a computerized process.
PPPM system allows the project manager to monitor and make changes to the project.it allows
measurement taking of the performance as a way of ensuring that a collective meeting of
portfolio strategy is achieved and one can make adjustments if programs do not comply with
portfolio objectives (Jonas D 2010).
In my proposal, an effective PPPM system should be reliable and highly secured to avoid any
interruption PPPM should also allow collaborative in decision making and also avoid
complexity.in terms of cost, it should be easily managed so as to avoid a lot of loss in
maintenance (Jonas D 2010).
British Petroleum (BP)

BP is multinational oil and Gas Company which operates in six Continents. BP is exposed to
the high chance of accidences occurrence hence a more reliable PMIS should be used.it should
be well secured and allows the collaborative process in a way the whole process is observed by a
team. BP covers large area hence it should have reliable and effective means of communication.
The cost of the system should be manageable so as to avoid delay in case of maintenance.
Other industries such as government, military, healthcare, and justice require the different type
of PPMIS as some require more privacy than others. Taking example of justice and military their
privacy is more detailed comparison with others such as health care and tourism.
