INTRODUCTION
Project Management is an important component of undertaking a project because it
ensures that right project outcomes are delivered. This is because every client has their own
requirements which they want to achieve through the project (Bjorvatn and Wald, 2018) (Daniel
and Daniel, 2018). Another reason is that effective project management provides direction to the
project. The report is based on a problem that has been identified. It includes the ideation as well
as a design cycle that includes investigation of the problem, developing the design brief,
planning, creation and evaluation of the project.
MAIN BODY
Ideation
The issue in this report is related to heavy traffic due to which the people were facing
problems. The traffic was stuck for hours causing a lot of noise and in the inability of the
vehicles to move smoothly. The strategy which can help in overcoming the problem constructing
a bridge or an alternative route. This will allow the heavy vehicles to divert between two routes
and other vehicles like cars, motorbikes etc. to move easily, eliminating the traffic (He and et. al.,
2019). The project will be prepared within a time duration of one year and the cost for the same
will be £100,000. The place where the bridge will be constructed is in the middle of the city. The
overall process will be monitored and controlled with he help of various techniques as well as
soft wares like CAD, CAM and 360 degree performance appraisal. This will be done in order to
ensure that the project is completed without any faults and errors.
Design Cycle
It can be defined as a cycle which comprises of various tools that can be used in order to
create as well as evaluate solutions to a particular problem. The cycle comprises of different
stages that are described below -
Investigate
Identify the Problem – The problem identified is that of heavy traffic in one of the middle
routes within the city. Due to this, people face problems while driving through the route. The key
considerations of the design will be aesthetic, functional as well as market.
Develop the Design Brief – The brief will contain all the information that will be required
to initiate the project. The appearance of the bridge will be based on modern design, its function

will be to reduce the heavy traffic. The shape will ensure safety against any type of natural
hazard. The target market will include both local residents of the city and people who come from
outside. The rationale behind this project is to allow the traffic to move smoothly without
causing any problem to the people. Technologies like CAM, CAD will be used to complete the
project within a year.
Formulating a Design Specification
Plan
Design a Product/Solution – The alternative solutions for this problem can include
alternative routes so that the heavy traffic gets diverted, or constructing a bridge so that the
vehicles do not get stuck. Annotated drawings can be used at this stage wherein labelled
drawings and notes will provide a proper explanation of the process (Annotated Drawings,
2011). The materials that will be required will include concrete, bricks, steel etc. They will have
to be up to standard so that it functions effectively during rains as well.
Plan a Product/Solution – Concept designs, which are used during an early phase of the
design process will be used at this stage (LARSON and GRAY, 2018). The designs will include
an outline of the strategies as well as processes. The plan will also include features of the
solution as well as its tangible offerings.
Vision
The vision of the project will be to reduce the overall traffic that is causing a lot of air
pollution, wear and tear of vehicles as well as increased noise and jam within the city.

Objective
The objective of this project is to identify the most appropriate option for managing the
traffic effectively.
Time and Cost
The available budget for this project is £100,000 for ultimate solution within the time
period of one year.
Create
Use Appropriate Tools and Techniques – Various tools and techniques are available that
will be used in order to create the product. These can include using latest technology, skilled
labour, high quality materials etc. CAD and Cam will be used in order to control the different
tools in the different activities. Whereas the approach of 360 degree appraisal will help in
analysing overall performance.
Follow the Plan – the project manager will ensure that the project is followed at all times.
This will allow a smooth functioning and while following the plan, it will be made sure that the
all resources are utilized effectively.
Create the Product/Solution -The product or solution for this problem should be of
permanent nature (Layton and Ostermiller, 2017). It will be kept in mind that the project is
undertaken within the available budget.
Evaluate
Evaluate the Product/Solution – Once the bridge is constructed, it will be evaluated
effectively in order to ensure that there are no defects or errors.
Evaluate the use of Design Cycle – The use of design cycle will also be evaluated so that
rectifications can be made (Portny, 2017). At this, it will be evaluated if the overall design cycle
is effective or not. The four stages of the design cycle, Investigate, Plan, Create and Evaluate are
important and will allow the completion of the project to achieve desired goals and objectives.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that project management helps in completing
the project effectively and delivering the desired output. The design cycle comprises of different
stages that ensure the efficiency of the project. It also helps in addressing the problem and
achieving a solution for the same.
