3PRINCIPLES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Introduction
The main objective of this report is to detail the process of project selection as well as
this report will have an elaborate discussion about the initial processes of the project that is
mentioned. For initiation of any project it is very important to select a method of project
selection which is appropriate and will provide effectiveness to the project development process.
Following this aspect the report will also discuss about the importance of a process of project
management in the project development process (Kerzner, 2017). Along with all these
discussions the report will focus on why the project that is selected is suitable for the case
scenario that is mentioned by contrasting it with the other processes. Other than describing the all
the process of project selection and the processes of the management the report will also focus on
the risks that are related to the project that is mentioned. Last but not the least the report will
conclude by giving a short discussion that is based on the necessity of the elaboration that is
mentioned above.
Uber Driver App
According to the book, project management book of knowledge it has been seen that
there is an important role of selecting an exact plan for the project for any development as well
as productive plan for the project helps the developer of the project to understand the future
perspective of the project that is approached (Rose, 2013). Following this in order to define the
investment which is required to develop the project that is mentioned, it is also very important
which can be directed by a suitable plan of project management. It has been mentioned that
while choosing any of the projects there are different aspects present which needs to be taken

into account. According to the case study that is given it has been noted that the main objective
of the project provide an application to the drivers of Uber which has the capability to direct the
drivers as well as the customers. By analyzing the purpose of the project it can be said that the
plan that is approached has the responsibility to lessen the company’s cost by increasing the time
utilization. According to the case scenario that is mentioned, the important features that are
mentioned below needs to be taken into account while choosing any project.
Firstly it is important to understand the importance of the project that is approached, and how
the project that is approached is advantageous to the company that is targeted?
If the project that is approached can increase the utilization of the resources that is available?
If the project that is approached can help the customers and also can address the expectation
of the stake holders?
If the project can help the company to upgrade their position in the market and its profit?
What is the risk that is present in the project that is approached?
How the project will help the company to enhance its current status?
By considering the features that are mentioned above it can be determined that the project
that is approached has a very important role in increasing the Uber services. The project that is
approached is very fruitful for the drivers and the customers and it help the drivers to select the
passengers that are nearer to them which will probably reduce the latency and will increase the
time utilization.
The Uber app is one of the most popular applications in the world. Before executing the new
version of the app, Uber faced a large number of challenges which counts to thirty eight in all.
The challenges faced by Uber is due to the feedback which is given by the drivers and the
customers who are using the Uber app. The old software is updated to new version because the

drivers and the passengers were not satisfied with the app. The new software provides great
flexibility to the drivers as they can pick up passengers from different locations. To develop this
type of app, the agile methodology of project management approach is used. This methodology
has a lot advantages so it is used in the Uber deriver app. There are many reasons Uber driver
app use the agile methodology.
The given organization that is Uber wants the customer to be satisfied in a rapid and manner
that is continuous.
The interactions of the people are needed rather than using the tools and processes. By this
app the developer, the tester and the customers are always interacting with each other.
In this app that is the Uber app lot of co-operation is needed between the customers who are
using the app.
In this app a continuous attention is required concerning the good design and technical
assistance
In the Uber app, changes which are late are always welcomed.
In the Uber app, a continuous adaption is required during the changing of the perimeter.
Project management approaches
Following the selection of a productive project for the case scenario that is mentioned, it
is also very important to choose a suitable plan for the project management for the project that is
selected. There are different types of approaches of project management including the waterfall
model, agile method, Scrum model and the critical path method. So as to select a fruitful

approach of project management, detailed discussions of comparison between the approaches of
project management are mentioned below:
Waterfall model-
The waterfall model is one of the productive processes of project management
(Kuhrmann et al.,2017). It is also one of the oldest methods of project management. The
waterfall model follows a particular order as this method is very strict about the requirements
that are previously selected. To apply the waterfall model and to make the project that is
approached, it is very important to have a plan that is effective because back tracking is not
possible in the waterfall model. The waterfall model has some steps which are given below:
To recognize the requirements.
To analyze the plan that is approached.
To design the project that is approached.
Implementation of the project.
To test the project that is being implemented.
After passing the test, to employ the project that is implemented
To maintain the product that is implemented.
The waterfall model is one of the oldest methods, so it has several cons which affect the process
of development of project. The limitations of the waterfall model are the risk which is related to
the application and there is no way of tracking back in this method. Another limitation of this
model is that it is restricted to the plan that is previously defined.

Scrum model-
It also a constructive model of project management along with the waterfall model. It
does not follow any tradition of master slave (Permana, 2015). The scrum model begins with
process of development by taking the project to the middle of the model and then it involves
each and every member of the team. It has been seen that this model can be applied to the case
scenario that is mentioned.
Agile method-
The agile method is one of the constructive methods of project development. The agile
method is opposite of the waterfall model (Conforto & Amaral, 2016). The agile is much flexible
and faster unlike the waterfall model. The benefit of this model is that there is no such
requirement that is fixed and experiments can be done with the requirements. This method is less
risky. Along with pros the agile method has con too. The agile does not have any fixed plan and
it can affect the process of development (Cooper & Sommer, 2016). Along with these the
alliance of the workers and the stakeholders also affect the process of development.
After seeing all the approaches of the project management it can be clearly seen that agile
method is suitable for the project that is approached. This method has the ability to examine the
scope of the project and the things that are required so as to design the project that is approached.
Project management tools and techniques
PERT chart, Gantt chart and the logic networks are the tools of the management of
project that can be used in the planning of the projects. The short definitions of the different tools
of the project management are as follows:
Gantt chart-
Document Page
8PRINCIPLES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
This is a very popular device of management of project which consists of charts which
follows he work that is given across the time intervals (Gantt, 2015). The Gantt chart has become
an important standard of an industry of the management of projects. Gantt chart can be useful in
updating the Uber app. This is the because gantt chart shows how a project runs that is it can
show how the new and updated app of Uber can run.
Pert chart-
Full form of PERT is the Program Evaluation and Review Technique is tool of the
management of the project which was evolved by The United States Of America (Boushaala,
2014). It is the technique for examining the works that are being involved in the completion of
the given project and recognizing the tie that are needed or the completion of the tasks that is
being allotted and the less time which is required for the task to be completed. The PERT chart
can also be used in the new Uber app because the PERT chart is used to organize, schedule and
co-ordinate the tasks in the project. So in the Uber driver app, a PERT chart can also organize,
schedule and co-ordinate the tasks in the app.
Logic network-
Logic network specifies the activities of a project at a given time interval. The logic
network is used to recognize the path that is critical and the milestones of project (Hajdu, 2013).
Logic network helps to understand the work flow of the project. The logic network can also be
used in the Uber driver app because the logic network is very useful in virtual environments. The
Uber app runs in virtual environment and hence the PERT chart can be useful.

Assessment of Risk
After the discussion of the methods of project management and the tools of project
management, it is important to discuss the risk that is linked to the project that is approached.
To examine the risk that is present in the project, it is important to decide the risk that present
in the entire project that is approached (Špačková & Straub, 2015).
After this, feedback collection from the stakeholders is also important to decide the risk that
is present in the project that is approached.
After knowing the risk in the project it is important to propose some solutions of the risk.
Conclusion
After completing the report it can be concluded that this report discusses about the
important features of project management and the project management book of knowledge. In
this report a project is selected for the company that is selected and the features that need to be
taken into account to make the company better in terms of recognition and profit. It has been
discussed about the approaches of project management from which the agile method is taken to
develop the project that is being approached. The report also discusses about the different tools
of project management which is required to increase the efficiency of the project. Last but not
the least, the assessment of risk is done to increase the fruitfulness of the project that is
approached. The given case scenario is Uber and by the project that is being approached, the
market position of the company can be increased. The new application will be a great help to the
drivers as well as the passengers. The drivers can select the passengers that are nearer to them. It
will help the drivers to increase the time utilization and it will help them to earn more profit and
the people who are boarding the Uber will obtain many facilities from the company.
