Project
AI Summary
This project delves into the critical aspects of project planning and budgeting, emphasizing the significance of quality and cost management. It begins by defining project quality, highlighting its importance in meeting customer requirements and distinguishing between quality assurance and quality control. The project explores various tools and techniques for managing project quality, including cause and effect diagrams, control charts, and histograms. It then examines how poor project quality can escalate costs, the responsibilities of a project manager in controlling these costs, and provides an example using a vehicle maintenance facility case study to illustrate the impact of quality management on project outcomes. The project also includes a reply post that critiques the initial student's work, discussing the different tools and techniques used for managing the quality of the projects.

1PROJECT PLANNING AND BUDGETING
Quality in a project
Quality in a project ensures that the deliverables of the project are fit for the intended
purpose and satisfies the requirement of the customer (Taniguchi & Onosato, 2017). The quality
of a project relies on the identification of customers in a project and on the requirements those
are set by the customers.
For managing the project quality, it is very much important to meet the requirements of
the customer. Quality assurance and the quality control in a project are used interchangeably and
have different meanings. Project assurance mainly focuses on all the processes as well as helps to
prevent the defects prior to their occurrence in the project (Pheng, 2018). On the other hand
project control actually focuses on the service or the product and helps in identifying as well as
correcting the defects after the projects have already been completed.
Tools and techniques for planning project quality management
The tools and the techniques those are used for managing the project quality are:
Cause and effect diagrams: These diagrams are very helpful for finding the root cause of
the project defect. These diagrams mainly shows the relationships between results of problems
and the main root cause of the problems those are identified (Basu, 2017). These diagrams shows
the primary as well as secondary cost of the project.
Control Charts: These charts helps in measuring the result of the processes over the time
as well as helps in displaying the results in graphical form. Using the control charts, the quality
analyst helps in determining the in control and the out control of variances of process

Histograms: These are bar charts that helps in depicting distribution of the variables over
the time. These graphs helps in representing the distribution by calculating the mean of the data
from the project.
Project cost affected by poor project quality
If the project does not satisfies the quality of the project, the project cost will be increase.
Project quality includes managing the project by satisfying all the requirements of the project
those are stated by the customer (Eftekhari & Valmohammadi, 2017). If project quality is not
satisfied the project will be reopened and that will increase the cost of the project. The project
manager has the responsibility to manage the cost of the project. Project manager should control
any extra cost in the project that lies because of poor quality. The cost of having quality in the
project includes having poor quality of work because of the supervision lack in the project or not
including operational procedures in the project. The cost of quality in a project quantifies as well
as translates the failure of project. Proper development of method is to be measured for
determining the cost of poor quality in a project. s
Example: In the Vehicle maintenance facility case study, there are many constraints that
are given by the project owner. If the quality management of the project is not maintained in the
project, the project will be loss for the contractor as the project is fixed price project. Quality in
the project includes making the building with two main areas and those requirements are to be
followed in the project.

As stated by the student, the student has defined the quality of the project very nicely. But
the student has failed to describe the different tools and techniques that are used for managing
the quality of the projects (Baker, 2018). The tools and technique used for managing the quality
of the project are cause and effect diagrams, control charts, histograms, Pareto charts and
flowcharts. But the student has mentioned Gantt chart as tools of measuring the project quality.
It is important to understand the meaning of project quality. Project quality includes
project assurance. Project quality assurance is defined as the planned as well as systematic
activities those are implemented in quality system so that the project quality can be improved
fulfilling the requirements of project (Ahmed & Mohammed, 2018). Project quality management
is needed in the project for ensuring that the project will meet or exceed the need as well as
expectations of the stakeholders. In project early stage, the quality of the project and the
requirement of the project is considered as vague and is sometime unmeasurable. But with the
project progress, the requirements of the projects are defined to specifications those can be
measured. Quality of a project can be defined as the project should be up front and the project
should be well – defined satisfying all the customer needs in the project.
The student has mentioned the cost of quality in the project but has not mentioned
examples from the case study which states that the students have not studied the case study
related to the assignment.
