Reflection on Project Scheduling and Planning
Planning and Scheduling are the two key components of Project Management and
learning from this course have helped me to understand the needs and the importance of
developing a plan and scheduling a project in an effective manner. The learning experience from
this topic and this course have been quite engaging as I have gained a detailed knowledge of
various scheduling tools and techniques that assists in detailed project planning (Kerzner 2017).
The scheduling in project management mainly involves listing all the key activities, deliverables
and milestones that are linked with the execution of a project. Scheduling a project mainly
incorporates a planned start and finished date, along with the duration and the resources assigned
to each activity. Therefore, scheduling can be considered as a critical component needed for
successful time management in a project.
Project planning is a process that aims in establishing the project objectives, priorities and
the key requirements of the project. A project can move to the execution stage only after the
formal approval of the project plan. Therefore, emphasis is generally given on the project
planning process as the success of any project largely depends on effective planning (Heagney
2016). In this course, I have learnt the importance of planning and the process of planning. My
lecturer has guided me in understanding the necessity of proper project planning and
management. The most critical need of project planning is understanding the requirements and
the project scope to plan and schedule the project accordingly. Therefore, planning mainly refers
to all the necessities that are required to be managed by the project manager to establish project
success (Singh 2014). Clarification of the project scope is further necessary to develop a realistic
project plan.

Scheduling can be considered as a part of project of project planning that estimates the
total time needed to execute and complete a project (Mubarak 2015). Scheduling is a key
mechanism that communicated the major tasks to be completed. Schedule documents the major
works required to be executed to deliver a project on time. The scheduling in a project requires
establishment of the order of tasks and creation of milestones. This helps in easier calculation of
the total time required to execute and complete a project work.
The learning experience in this course has been quite good for me and I have got the
necessary help from my lecturer in understanding the basic concept of planning and scheduling.
This course have enabled me to understand the importance of basic project management tools
and techniques required to plan and implement a project as per the specifications. Determination
of the project deliverables and assignment of the project tasks are the basic needs of scheduling
and these steps are to be followed to ensure that the key project requirements are fulfilled.
Project planning and scheduling are important to provide the stakeholders with a detailed
understanding of the key project deliverables and further details the time needed to complete the
execution of the project. My learning experience has been quite satisfactory in this course, as I
could gather detailed knowledge about project planning and scheduling.
