ITP-4 Project - Adding Resources to WBS: Mamma's Bakery Expansion

This project report details the process of adding resources to a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) within the context of the Mamma's Bakery expansion project. Background
The undertaken project aims in expansion of Mamma’s Bakery. As a part of the initial
project plan, a detailed work break down structure has already been prepared. The next is to
schedule the project and add resources to the task. The report provides an overview of the
resources allocated for each task. The resources are allocated on basis of the task requirement
and the time each resource will be working.
Resource Considered
The resources considered for the chosen project are indicated in the following figure-

In the above figure, the resources are segregated into work and material. The material
column indicates the materials needed for successful execution of the undertaken project. The
other resources are the labors considered for the task. Few of the resources are allocated at 50%
as they will not be working for 8 hours.

Resource Over allocation
The table 1 illustrates the allocation of resources to specific task. However, the allocation
of the resources in that manner has resulted in over allocation of certain resources that are needed
to be solved.

Solving Resource Over allocation
The problem of resource over allocation is needed to be solved to ensure every resource
works for 8 hours a day. The resource over allocation is occurring in the schedule mainly
because few resources are allocated to the summary tasks. Therefore, the resources are to be
freed from the summary task. Since each of the individual tasks are allocated with a particular
resource, the resources from the summary task can be freed to solve the problem of resource over
allocation-

The problem of resource over allocation is solved by freeing the resources that are
assigned to the summary task. Allocation of the resources to summary task is not mandatory in
this project since specific resources are allocated for each of the individual task.
Conclusion
The report provides an overview of the resource needs of the Mamma’s Bakery project.
On basis of the WBS developed, the resources are assigned to each of the task. The report
provides an evidence of the resource allocation and solving the problem of resource over
allocation to ensure that each resource works for a maximum of 8 hours per day.
