2Principle of project management
Introduction:
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the selection process of project. This paper will
also discuss a detail discussion that is related to initial process of the project that is
mentioned. This is so much important for the initiation of a project, to select an appropriate
method of project selection that can provide the effectiveness in the project development
(Alshamrani, & Bahattab, 2015). The report will also discuss the importance of process
management that is appropriate for developing a process. In addition, the paper will also
execute why the project that is selected, is appropriate for the Uber driver app case study, by
make the comparison of it with other processes. At the end the, the paper will provide a
conclusion based on the discussion.
Project management approaches:
It has been noticed that there is an important role to select a plan that is appropriate
for the project, for the development as an effective and appropriate project plan can help the
developer for understanding the future scope of the project that is effective and appropriate
for organising the process of the work. In order for specifying the investment that is needed
for the development of the project that is mentioned is so much essential too that can be
addressed through a plan for managing project that is appropriate (Cooper & Sommer, 2016).
This also has mentioned that at the time of selecting any of the project, there might be having
various aspects that are needed to be accounted. This has been noticed by following the case
scenario that the main objective of the project that is approached is to deliver an application
to the drivers who are associated with Uber, that can hold the capability for guiding the
drivers as well as the consumers. By following the case study of Uber driver app, the critical
aspects are mentioned below that needs for accounting at the time of selecting a project:
If it can engage new consumers?

3Principle of project management
If the project is appropriate for the organisation or not?
If this can maximize the usage of the resources that are available?
How this can improve the present status of the company?
There are various approaches for the management of the project that are available for the
management of the project. As there are various approaches for the project management that
are including Waterfall model, Scrum Model, Critical Path Method and the Agile Method.
The approaches are given as follows:
Waterfall model:
In the year 1985, the term waterfall model was coined first by the scientist Bell and
Thayer. The Defense department of the United States of America have utilized this method
once in the product of them that was DOD-STD-2167A. It is one of the most efficient
methodologies for the management of the project. The model is used widely in the Software
engineering to get success in the project (Drake, Myung & Hussain, 2013). This is the
presentation that is known first to describe the waterfall model that is developed by Herbert
D. For applying the methodology, for the development of the project which is approached,
this is so much important for having an effective and clear plan since, the tracking back
process is not possible in the methodology of project development. So many steps are
consisted from this method that are given below:
Identifying the requirements.
Design the approached project.
Analysing the approached plan.
Implementing the project.
If it passes then deployment of the implemented project.
Testing of the implemented project.

4Principle of project management
Maintenance of the deployed product.
The process is one of the old most project for managing the projects, this can also hold
the limitations that are important and can affect the process for developing the project. The
limitation are also including the risks that are related to the application that are related to
method, because there is no way for tracking back process in the methodology of project
development.
Scrum model:
The scrum model is actually the part of the agile model. This can take that project at
the main position as well as it can continue with the development of the process by getting
help from the team members. This is also applicable for the case scenario.
Agile method:
Along with the development method of the two projects, this is also one of the most
important method for the software project development. This method is quite opposite for all
of the waterfall model that is faster as well as flexible by comparing with the approaches
related to other project management (Eliasson et al., 2014). One of the most important
advantages for applying the methodology is that this cannot demand any needs and
requirement that is fixed, because there is a freedom for doing experiment with all of the
needs and requirement. The method can provide lower risks that are related to the
development of the project and for the final product because there is a big chance for the
management methods of the other projects for not addressing the goal that is desired. For the
development of the software four methods are uses by the agile methodology. This is
including:
An individual person or the team both of them are making interaction between them
over the various tools and the processes.

5Principle of project management
The software is working in the documentation that are so much comprehensive.
The consumer will collaborate between one another for negotiating in the contract.
Make response to the change over the plan that is mentioned previously.
The different procedures are including:
Planning
Requirement analysis
Design
Coding
Unit testing
Acceptance testing
At the end of each of the iteration, the product can be deliverable to the consumers as well as
also to the stakeholders of the organisation (Joslin & Müller, 2015). After the discussion that
is regarding to the project, the conclusion can be made that it can be an appropriate
methodology for the project that is approached.
Project management tools:
For the development of an important project, the tools for managing the project is so
much important. The project management tools are discussed below:
Gantt chart:
The gantt chart is needed to make the schedule of the project. The gantt is basically a
horizontal bar chart that is needed for the development of the project as well as this is used as
the project management tool. The tool was developed in 1917 (Gantt, 2015). A simple gantt
chart can be drawn in a graph paper as well as it can be created with more complexity in the
automated tools.

6Principle of project management
Network diagram:
The tool can help for making the schedule of the progress and the processes of the
project that is mentioned, by the network diagram the progress and the work flow can be
controlled (Project Management Institute, 2017). Sometimes the roots of the actual problem
can be tracked so much easily by observing as well as analysing that how the computer
systems can be interconnected between them.
Scheduling:
In project management scheduling is the list of the various activities, deliverables and
the milestones that are existed within the project. The scheduling includes the beginning that
is planned as well as the date of the finished resources and the duration that is assigned for
each of the activities (Gabrel, Murat & Thiele, 2014). At the time the people are discussing
the procedures for making the design for the schedule. There are six processes, they are as
follows:
Planning of the schedule management
Activities related to the sequencing
Defining activities of the project
Estimation of the resources
Developing the scheduling of the project
Estimating the duration.
Risk assessment:
By following the above discussion that are related to the management of the project
and the project management tools, this is also so much important for accessing the risks that
are related to the project that is approached.

7Principle of project management
For analysing effectively the risk that are related to the project, this is so much import
ant for determining the risks that are present in each of the fields of the project that is
approached.
By considering the risks that are determined, this is so much important to suggest the
important mitigation problem.
Conclusion:
Form the entire report it can be concluded that the project is deeply discussed
regarding the tools that are related to the project management. It is also discovered that by
utilizing the new application, the drivers of Uber will be able to provide better performance to
the consumers who can increase the popularity of the organisation. The paper has also
described how the risk assessment can be done in order to enrich the efficiency of that
project.
