Skills that a project manager needs to possess
Just like a doctor, a project manager leads a trauma team and then decides what action to
take for a certain project. To start with a project manager must be an excellent entrepreneurial
mindset. This skill allows the project manager to think beyond their basic skill as it the duties of
a project manager to direct project team members to the finish line. Second project managers’
needs to keep information and knowledge seamlessly. This means that they have to posse the
technical skills of how to come with the project. Third, a project manager needs to have
leadership skills; this enables them to lead to their teams so as to meet project goals. It also goes
without saying that scheduling is one of the core skill of project manager. This means a project
manager needs to have project manager skill. Forth, communication is another essential skill in
project management. A project manager cannot be effective if they do not have effective
communication skills. This tool assists the project manager to connect to other the project team
members one-to-one. Lastly a project manager needs to have critical thinking skills; this assist
them in analyzing and evaluating a situation and an issue. Lastly a project manager needs to have
both organizational and planning skills, this is the key to success to change management; this
also assists in the implementation of change management (Baldauf, n.d ).
Project selection process and methods
Before embarking into the act of coming up with a project as well as their techniques it is
very essential to first understand why a project selection is so essential for your organization.
This can only be achieved by using the right project management methodology during project
selection. One of the major which I have taken part into is development of accounting
management system which required it to be integrated with student management system.

From this experience, I realized that there are various project selection methods which are
benefit measurement methods. As the term suggests, this methodology rates system projects
according to a certain model and compares the outcome between the project candidates, the
common benefit measurement methods used are cost benefit ratio. The methodology measures
costs of investing a certain project against return value. There is the economic model which
shows the difference between revenue generated and cost invested. Also there is payback period
which takes a look at how long it takes for a company to recoup its expenses from a project.
Constrained optimization methods; this method according to our project manager is widely used
complex projects. In here a number of intricate mathematical calculations are needed. The tools
used here are dynamic programming which focuses on breaking down the problem into sub-
problem and multiple objective4 programming which focusses on making a decision to a number
of problems (ProjectManagementInstitute, 2018).
Response
From the various response it is evident that it is challenging and interesting to choose
from and finding a project which is accurate fit for both the organization and project team
members. It is also true when one states that all project selection methods usually offer a time-
tested techniques which are all based on sound logical reasoning. Different from opinions of
many all the project selection methods are time consuming and require a lot of time. The two
major project selection methods have three major limitations which are the do not consider time
value of money all the risks which are involved are neglected by all project selection methods.
It is also important to note that project managers are drivers of project selection process
meaning that they have to have project management skills. One of the most important skill not
mentioned are analytical skills which assists in understanding why project selection process is

important; it also assists in helping shape change and implementing changes at work place.
Analytical skills is another skill which helps in creating climate of change among the project
team. It helps in establishing a sense of urgency, and forming a powerful coalition. In addition a
project manager needs to have planning skills which helps in creating strategy and vision of
change. Organizational skills assists in creating attention to project management processes and
engaging the entire organization in the process of change management. Also, any project
manager need to have communication skills. This tool assists the project manager to connect to
other the project team members on daily basis. Even a sense of humor, other might disagree as
one of project management skill as it is soft skill; it is very important in project manage as it
allows one to see things differently.
