1PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Introduction
This specific essay depicts the roles and relevance of using best project management
prcatices for improving the current app of Uber drivers. It will offer a directive approach and
excellent driving experiences to the Uber drivers. The PMBOK project management process
deals with different knowledge areas such as scope, schedule, time, cost, procurement,
communication, risk, quality, resource, stakeholders and integration. Different approaches of
project management practices are there and each of these approaches are compared and
contrasted in this essay.
It is expected that if the project management practices are accurately applied for
developing UberNewDriver app then the owners will obtain higher level of competitive
advantages and commercial excellence as well. However, certain risks are identified for the
current app. In order to mitigate theses risks the possible tools and techniques those should be
applied are also elaborated in this essay. It has been assume that if theses risk mitigation
approaches are utilize by the developers then theses risks will be either resolved or mitigated.
1. PMBOK knowledge areas and process details
Role, relevance and impact on project management best practices and PMI code of ethics
After analyzing the current offers and application providing by the Uber app it has been
determined that, this app itself act as an instructor. In order to deliver a much efficient, user
friendly and effective service to their regular and new consumers the PMI’s code of ethics and
project management knowledge areas are required to be utilized by the project manager
(DeviKrishnaya, Jamaludin & Ismail, 2017). The foremost initiatives that needs to be undertaken

2PROJECT MANAGEMENT
by the project manager and system developer is preparation of a project scope statement
considering the Uber developer’s and clients requirements. The project goals, aim and objectives
are to be set by the project managers at the very ignition development period. The project
manager and the project team members would be able to understand the requirements and govern
the project towards the objectives.
Apart from that, the project manager and the project team members should work on the
accurate knowledge area in terms of communication, stakeholder management as well. In order
to incorporate technical changes respective capital investment is also required. The project
deliverables for the Uber app are very crucial as the drivers have to make some complex kinds of
calculations. In order to assign proper cost, resources ad time the project manager requires
planning the project in such a way so that it meets the objectives easily (Heagney, 2016). The
complexities for each of the activities are not similar therefore based on the complexities time
and cost are to be defined at the planning phase. Identification of accurate functional and non-
functional requirements will help the project manager to organize the project appropriately and
also motivate the project team members so that they can control and monitor the project
progress.
Critical comparison and contrast of project management methods
Various project management methods are there and based on the project size and
complexity the project manager requires selecting the best possible method for developing and
launching any project. The different types of selection method are elaborated in the below
section:
Document Page
3PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Benefit/cost ratio: This specific project selection method helps the project manager to
define the ratio of benefits and assigned project cost. In other words it is the ratio of current
value of the inflows and net cost invested for the successful implementation of the cost. If it
gives positive value then it can be said that the value of return will be beneficial and if the value
comes negative then the business will face loss (Kaiser, Arbi & Ahlemann, 2015). Thus, projects
that has higher benefit cost ratio are always chosen over the lower cost benefit ratio.
Scoring model: This is the other widely used project selection method. In this process
the method selection committee first enlists the weighs and application criteria based on the
project priorities and its importance. As soon as the project scoring is finished the project with a
higher score is chosen by the project managers.
Payback period: The process of payback period helps to define the ratio between net
cost and the average cost paid per period. Whatever cost will be invested for the projects are
required to be recovered within time and this specific time is always calculated with the help of
payback period. The payback period is referred to as one of the very basic project selection
method (Malhotra & Ackfeldt, 2016). This timeframe calculates the net time that would be
required to recover the total cost that has been invested for the project progress and development.
This is one of the easiest project section method as in this process the involved risks are always
neglected.
Constrained optimistic method: The constrained optimistic method is comprises of
five different phases in terms of linear programming, non linear programming, integer
programming, dynamic programming and multiple objectives programming (DeviKrishnaya,

Jamaludin & Ismail, 2017). These mathematical project selection methods are used basically for
large projects.
After comparing and contrasting each of the projects selection methods it has been
defined that above all of these methods the most suitable method for UberNewDriver app is
Cost/Benefit ratio.
Project management processes
Different type of available project management processes the most suitable project
management proves is required to be chosen by the project manager and the project team
members. The processes are as follows:
Business case documentation: In order to improve the Uber app business case
documentation is a process that can be used by the developers (Ham et al., 2015). It will
successfully explore all feasible approaches that enables and identify the problems. The best
option should be chosen by the project developers for the Uber case scenario.
Feasibility testing: Feasibility testing is referred to as one of the most realizable process
used for managing project and accomplishes the project within the assigned timeline and budget.
The feasibility result will identify whether the project outcome are beneficial for Uber or not.
The aspects those are considered for testing the feasibility are technical, economical, legal and
business feasibility.
Preparation of project charter: For any project charter presentation always stands very
beneficial. The project charter demonstrates the project goal, aim, objectives, assumptions,
constraints, milestones and total time assumed for completion of the project (Heagney, 2016).

5PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The project charter will help the project team members to understand project objectives and what
contribution or responsibilities are expecting from the team members.
Distribution of roles and responsibilities: The project managers and the project team
members are required to assign appropriate roles and responsibilities to the project team
members after analyzing their skills and knowledge. In order to avoid operational errors based on
the skills and knowledge of the project team members the roles and responsibilities are to be
assigned to the individuals.
Timely project review: The project should never complete once a go in other words it
should be reviewed and monitored with a timely gap (Ahuja & Priyadarshini, 2015). It will help
to realize the possible changes that can be incorporated by the project managers to improve the
app and meet the expectation of the project owners. The complete project document should be
reviewed before the final execution.
Appropriate project management tools and techniques for risk management
Different project management tools and techniques are available in the field of project
practice. The list of tools and techniques are elaborated in the below section:
Risk register: The risk register represents the possible risks those will be identified for
the project along with its impact and possibilities (Buenviaje et al., 2016). A score will also be
given based on its impact and probability of occurrence.
Root cause analysis: The root cause analysis will identify the reasons for which the risks
can arise. If the roots are initially identified then those can be easily avoided.

Conclusion
From the overall discussion it can be concluded that, in order to develop the current
application, functional and operational activities of UberNewDriver app the project manager
should choose the most suitable project selection method. The project selection method that has
been chosen for improving this app is cost benefit ratio. After comparing and contrasting the
different project selection methods this specific method has been selected. The project manager
should identify the sponsors at the planning phase. On the other hand all the project team
members should be managed professionally and must follow open communication. The open
communication will offer an independent platform to the associates so that they can share their
ideas and expectation from the redeveloped Uber app. The project management process should
be applied for this specific project is project charter. The project charter will represent the details
of the project requirements and the tools and techniques must be applied for the Uber app
development project is risk register.
