ASSESSMENT TASK
This assessment task comprises of two sections.
In the first section, develop a project time plan for your project of choice. In the second section, answer a
series of questions, referring to your project, regarding project execution and evaluation.
SECTION 1 - PROJECT TIME PLAN
1.Schedule Management Approach
It is found that for creating proper schedule for effective bridge construction, a number of steps
has generally been used. The steps which are followed are listed below:
Major inputs into the plan
The major inputs for developing a project management plan includes designing of preliminary
project scope statement, project management procedure, organizational process as well as different
types of enterprise environmental factors.
Ways for identifying and estimating resources and duration
It is found that in order to identify as well as estimate the required resources as well as duration
for the construction of bridge by involving within core project team. The involvement within the project
team is mainly done for properly achieving the project objectives and for determining the required time as
well as resources for the project (Bourne and Weaver, 2018). The information that is gained after
involvement with the project team is helpful in developing proper schedule.
Realistic time estimation
It is found that while undertaking the bridge construction project, proper realistic estimation has
been done by analyzing other bridge construction related project for getting proper idea as well as
realistic outlook about the project.
Issues which could impact on the estimation
It is found that improper planning as well as unskilled team members are the two different types
of challenges that generally can create negative impact on the time estimation in the project. If the proper
planning is not done then the managers are unable to properly estimate the entire project effectively (Lai
and Yang, 2019). In addition to this, it is necessary for the team members to be skilled and experienced
otherwise they are unable to determine the duration effectively as estimation is much more based on
experience.
Ways for development of the project schedule
It is found that in order to create the schedule for the bridge construction project, it is found that
MS project is mainly used. Gantt chart tool that are mainly utilized for estimating the project duration,
defining predecessors as well as resources for developing proper project plan (Martens and Carvalho,
2017). Furthermore, agile methodology is mainly used for developing proper project schedule for
providing proper rapid response change within the entire project and it further assists in effectively
managing different changing needs of the project.
Ways by which stakeholders communicated
The stakeholders of the project are mainly communicated in context to schedule by arranging a
meeting. It is found that within the meeting, the project managers communicate the significance of project,

its deadlines as well as objectives such that the team members can be capable of progressing the project
schedule quite effectively.
2.Work Breakdown Structure
The WBS which is given below is mainly divided into four different categories that are initiation,
planning, construction as well as closure. Proper analysis has been done so that the project WBS can be
successfully created based on the data collected as well as the experience of the team members.

3.Schedule Control
Project schedule control
The project schedule will be properly controlled within the entire life cycle of the project with the help
of the steps that are elaborated below:
Frequency of updates: Any type of updates related to the project are done by the project managers
as well as team leaders instantly so that no work of the project will get affected by any type of update
that is provided.
Schedule reviews: The schedule must be reviewed on a weekly basis for making sure that the project
is on track and it will not face delay (Wei and Rana, 2018).

Communication of the schedule progress: The project schedule that is developed for the bridge
construction must be updated on a regular basis and it must be communicated to all the project
stakeholders so that they can be able to get proper idea about the project. Furthermore, if any changes
are needed, they are instantly for keeping the schedule on track.
Process for devising schedule change
The steps that are mainly devised in order to make changes within the schedule of the project are
mainly elaborated below:
Submission of change request: The changes that are needed within the project schedule are mainly
drafted in a form of report and then it submitted for approval to the higher management of the
organization.
Analysis of the changes impact: Before providing approval, the authorities that are present at the
higher management undertake analysis for understanding that the changes does create impact on the
project but as they are important, approval is provided (De Andrade et al., 2019).
Maintenance of changes: After getting approval, the changes are introduced in the project and in
order to cope up with negative impact, proper strategies or steps must be taken so that the issues
related with budget can be managed effectively for avoiding issues related with project changes.
4.Schedule Review
Review of schedule performance
The schedule performance records must be reviewed on a weekly basis for analyzing the
progress of the project and the amount of budget that is spend on the project. The review is undertaken
on a weekly basis for getting information about the project performance and for taking proper action when
the schedule performance gets obstructed due to any type issues (Cho, Ryu and Lim, 2019). This also
helps in reflecting the importance of time management within the project and how time plays an important
role in making the project successful.
Schedule management issues
While progressing with the bridge construction project as per the schedule, it is found that a
number of issues occur and the issues include schedule slippage, scope creep, improper management as
well as lack of resources (Hu et al., 2016). The issues that occurs during the project progress must be
documented in a report format so that it can act as a guide for another project managers who undertakes
similar type of project and they can take proper preparation for avoiding such issues.

SECTION 2 – PROJECT TIME EXECUTION AND EVALUATION
Making appropriate reference to your project time plan, address each section covering all points.
Discuss what you would do if the following happened at execution phase:
1. One of your main deliverables (choose and describe one from your schedule) is heavily
behind (you are two days from the deliverable’s completion day and 50% of the tasks
associated with that deliverable are still to be completed) due to staffing issues.
Refer to your project plan and discuss the following (ALL points MUST be discussed)
a. Indicate what project deliverable you have chosen to discuss
It is found that “assembly and launching of the superstructure” is the deliverable that is mainly
selected in this particular project for undertaking discussion.
b. Analyse the impact of the issue on your project progress. Consider risks, resource
requirements, interdependencies, cost, quality and so forth.
Use the table below to record your analysis
AREAS ASSESSMENT OF IMPACT ON PROJECT
Cost It is found that due to delay in assembling as well as launching the
superstructure, the total cost of the project increases as the project gets
delayed and the workers need to work for longer time period.
Time As only two days left for reaching the completion date and 50% of the work is
left therefore the completion date of bridge construction generally gets
extended.
Quality If the project manager is much more concerned about the deadline and budget
then they will try their best to finish the work by recruiting more stakeholders but
it can create negative impact on the quality of the project.
Risk Risks like delay as well as budget shortfall can obstruct the progress of the
project.
HR The HR needs to ask the stakeholders to work extra and they also need to pay
extra amount of money to the stakeholders as they are working after shift hours
to finish the work on time.
Resources If the work of assembling as well as launching of the superstructure extended
then more amount of resources will be required for successful project
completion.

c. Determine what changes will be necessary in your project schedule and how they
will be implemented. Record your answer in the table below:
Change to schedule Implementation
Eliminating false
dependencies
The false dependencies from the project must be eliminated
and this is mainly done by working in parallel in the project so
that the predecessors can be expressed as finish to finish.
Crashing Crashing is a procedure of meeting deadline by investing
very much little on the resource and schedule. The workers
who are associated with the project their working period must
be increased for avoiding delays.
d. Discuss how you have monitored that deliverable.
The deliverable that the project can generally be monitored by reviewing the progress of the
project which further helps in stating whether the assembling as well as launching of the
superstructure are done effectively within the project or not.
e. Discuss how you are informing relevant stakeholders (mention which ones based
on your project) about the issue. Record your answer in the table below:
Stakeholder Communication strategy (media, content, timing,
frequency)
Project manager Face to face method is used by sharing the status report of
the project and the meeting will be conducted every week on
Friday at 9 am.
Team leader The team leaders get daily updates about the progress of
the project from the team members and the supervisors daily
informs and updates team leader. The status of the project is
shared at 6 pm in the evening daily.
Contractor The contractor gets updates through email about the
progress and they are updated daily.
f. Based on your analysis, summarise what actions you are going to undertake to
address the situation and discuss your response to maintain project objectives.
As delay will be faced in the project while assembling as well as launching superstructure in the
bridge construction project, it is quite necessary to use crashing method in order to avoid delay in
the project so that the project objectives can be achieved on time without facing delay in the
project.

Consider your project, your project time planning document and reflect on the issues addressed
in the previous questions (assume that the scenarios in question 1 happened in your execution
phase).
2. Address the following (ALL points MUST be discussed):
a. How would you identify and document schedule management issues and
recommend improvements for future projects?
The issues that are identified will be properly determine by the team members and will be
documented in the report so that it act as a guide for the future project manager so that will
not face such issues within their project and thus they can be able to achieve the goals and
objectives of the project (Lai and Yang, 2019).
b. Consider that you have now completed your project and you are preparing your
project review report.
Write an evaluation report on the schedule plan (to include lesson learned and
recommendations for future projects) addressed to your client. (Minimum 100
words)
It is analyzed from the schedule planning report that is prepared for the bridge
construction project that weekly tracking of the schedule is quite important for the project
managers for analyzing whether the project is running as per schedule or not so that
proper action can be taken instantly. In addition to this, I have learnt that hiring skilled
workers is necessary for managing the work of the project on time so that the problem of
delay can be solved.
