This assignment presents a comprehensive assessment of a mental health case study involving a 45-year-old Cambodian man named Munny Kaew, who is experiencing social isolation, low mood, and anxiety following a negative performance review at work. 1a). Upon interviewing the patient it had been identified that the patient is at the risk of social
isolation as he has isolated himself from all the social interactions such as his wife and children.
During interview he even asked the nurse to stop asking more question and has given mono
syllabic answer. It is considered as an urgent health concern because social isolation and
loneliness in adults can lead to mental illness and increase the risk of self-harm, depression and
can lead to suicide (Macrynikola, Miranda & Soffer, 2018). It can be confirmed by observing his
response towards worth living.
1b) In the above discussion, the urgent risk of the patient has been identified which is social
isolation that is associated to increase the risk of self-harm. The behavioral change in Munny led
to reduction in self-worth and as a result he started isolating himself. Therefore the nurse should
provide him different strategies to enhance his self-worth, which can be done by maintaining
rapport with the Patient and by gaining his trust (Calati et al., 2018). In order to do that, nurse
should engage in a therapeutic relationship with the patient with the aid of effective
communication- standard 2 of the registered nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia,
2019). The nurse should involve his family in the treatment to make them aware about his
condition and also educate them about the strategies that will help to increase his self-worth and
reduce isolation.
2a) The client is presented with low mood and anxiety since his employer was satisfied by his
work. It has negatively impacted his mental health and resulted social exclusion, low interest in
living and daily activities and monosyllabic in language. He was not accountable for his family
due to low mood and anxiety. It is evident from the study of Troya et al. (2019) that low mood
also give rise to worthlessness, hopelessness and low confidence. Thus, such changes have been
observed in Munny which is indicative towards mental health issue.

2b) The mental health issue of low mood and anxiety could be improved by mean of
psychological intervention. As according to Pascoe et al. (2017) psychological and psychosocial
is effective mean of intervention for positive health outcome of the people. Hence, it will be
carried out after assessing the health condition of the patients with the aid of several counseling
session. He will be given adequate education to cope with the mental illness by mean of effective
communication and building therapeutic relationship for the period of one months. Nurse can
also involve his wife, son, counselor and psychotherapists and general practitioner in the
treatment process of the patient.
3) Two major ethical issue that should be considered in the case of Munny is respecting the
autonomy of the patient and maintaining the confidentiality (Nadolny et al., 2017), which is
scheduled under the Privacy Act 1988 (Office of the Australian Information Comminssioner.
2019). In this case, Munny has not spoken about his needs and concern with anyone which
means that the patient does not want to reveal issue which has impacted his behavior. Hence, the
nurse should respect the privacy of the patient according to the Privacy Act (1988) and all the
information that has been stated by Munny should be kept confidential. Other ethical issue that
should be considered is respecting the autonomy of the patient, according to which health related
decision of the patient should be considered.
