Different activities have been done by attaining this purpose in systematic manner. Secondary
methods of data collection are used for literature review that helped in overcoming of research
gap and also facilitated in accomplishment of project aim and objectives in successful manner.
Questionnaire was for collecting primary information that results in attainment of objectives
successfully. Along with this, both primary and secondary methods are essential in achievement
of project aim and all objectives in successful manner.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Overview of the title
Sustainable tourism is a type of tourism that effectively meet the visitor’s needs.
Sustainable tourism, one that create an appropriate balance between the economic, social-culture
and environmental aspects of tourism development. This plays an important and significant role
in conversing biodiversity. This attempts to reduce its negative impact on environment as well as
local culture, so that it will be present for future generations, while playing essential role to
generate employment, income and the local ecosystems and conservations. Sustainable tourism
is important for tourism destinations because it helps them in attracting of larger number of
visitors, minimising the impact of carbon footprint on environment etc. These are major
advantages or benefits of sustainable tourism that are important for economic development and
growth of country (Ankomah,\ and Larson, 2019).
Along with this, there are also some effective advantages of sustainable tourism i.e.
benefits the local community, assists to conserver precious natural resources, provides visitors a
more honest look into local area, developing better places to visit, assist to avoid the resettlement
and displacement of local communities. Therefore, sustainable tourism is important and valuable
part of the development of best destination for the tourists. Along with this, there are different
ways that are effective in promoting of sustainable tourism including go green at hotel, tack care
of heritage places, use reusable bags, support community based tourism and many other (Aquino,
Lück and Schänzel, 2018). All these are effective and valuable in promoting of sustainable
tourism successfully.

Rationale and importance of the research
Main rationale of selecting this topic or study is to determine the main issues of
unsustainability at destinations. This is a biggest reason for conducting the present investigation.
This research has more value for researcher, organisations, societies and also industries. With the
help of this study, they can easily be increasing their knowledge about the different ways that are
effective in promoting of sustainable tourism in effective manner. This study help researcher at
personal level by enhancing their literature review, data collection and many other research skills
that turn to impact on their performance in completion of study successfully. This research is
also beneficial for organisations, societies etc. by providing information about the importance of

Literature review is a main section of the research because it supports investigator to gather
secondary data from different sources, which are articles, books, magazines, publication research
etc. With the use of these sources, investigator can easily gather secondary data about the topic.
Primary aim of literature review is to recognising the research gap within previous studies.
According to the present study, main gap is the ways that will be essential in promoting
sustainable tourism within destination in UK. In previous research, there was data present about
the sustainable tourism but there was absent data regarding the ways for sustainable tourism
development. This is a main gap that will be overcome through different themes will be
described as below:
Theme 1: Explanation regarding the concept of sustainable tourism development
According to the Matoga and Pawłowska, (2018), Tourism development is the concept
where have to focus over implementation of points that ultimately improves the tourist
experience. Here, aspect of sustainability is important because without it not possible to attract
new potential consumers along with retaining existing ones. Maintenance of sustainability is
totally depending over the performance of tourism organisations and the associations operating
in this industry for the perspective of development. There are large number of benefits that
associated with the implementation of sustainable and effective tourism activities such as long
term stability, attraction of new tourists, retaining of the older for longer period of time, higher
profitability and good image of destination. It is the duty over each personnel of an organisation
along with tourists that adhere the sustainable and effective practices which are effective in
nature of providing positive effect. The major benefit that will be ascertained from same is about
improvement destination image.

As per the opinion of Mendoza-Ramos and Prideaux, (2018), It is the duty over management
of each and every organisation that they adopt the practices which are effective towards
attainment of sustainability in tourism and destination development aspects. All these are
detailed below;
Use of Eco-friendly products: This is the point which includes the usage of Eco-friendly
products so that no harm will be disseminated to environment. Environment protection major
concern in the direction of attaining sustainability in tourism activities. This help in reduction of

carbon footprint along with improving improvement conditions that automatically improves the
destination beauty. This aspect also helps in getting support of the tourists and society from
where easy to increase the tourism activities.
Use of modern technology: This is the effective point about the usage of modern
technology in development of tourism activities. This is another important way that will be
essential and important for promoting sustainable tourism. This will help in attracting of larger
base of visitors towards sustainable destination that turn to impact in improving the economic
growth as well as development of country in successful manner.

Research methodology introduces to the important part of the research because it is use for
collecting and gathering information, which is related with the research area. There are certain
types of methodologies, which will be significant in carrying out present investigation
systematically. Some useful types of methodology will be defined as below:
Research philosophy: This is important for researcher to select proper philosophy while
doing their investigation in systematic manner. There are two different types of research
philosophies are named interpretivisim and positivism. In order to conduct research over the
ways that will be essential in promoting sustainable tourism within destination in UK, positivism
philosophy is effective for researcher because it contribute in collecting and also analysing of
quantitative data. One of the man advantage of positivism philosophy is to provides quantitative
output within minimum time of period (Tang, Wu, Zheng and Lyu, 2018). Interpretivisim is
known as another type that is not beneficial according to the existing topic as it takes more time.
Research approach: It is the systematic procedure of analysing the information via two
approaches i.e. inductive and deductive. For conducting present study over tourism, deductive
approach is appropriate for investigator as it will help them to analysis quantitative data without
giving maximum cost and time. Main advantage of using deductive approach is it support in
evaluating of quantitative data in less time duration. Inductive approach is not effective for
carrying out research over tourism because it entails qualitative information, which automatically
require maximum time and resources.
Research strategy: This part of methodology simplifies investigator in gathering of suitable
data through research strategy i.e. action research, case study, survey, experimental etc. These
are effective but in accordance to the current title, deductive approach is considered more
valuable as it supports in analysing of quantitative data that will be gathered from questionnaire.
Man advantage of deductive approach of the research is it benefited researcher in evaluating of
quantitative information without taking additional time (Thakuri and Nepal, 2018). Apart from
this, inductive is another type that is not beneficial within a study because for analysing
qualitative data, there will be requirement of gathering that type of information from interview,
which is not good in attainment of valid outcomes.
Research choice: This is essential for researcher to select best choice of the research in
accordance to the topic. There are two essential choice of the investigation are named qualitative

and quantitative. These are considered main choice but for executing research on tourism,
quantitative choice of the research is important and essential. Main advantage of selecting
quantitative research choice as it benefited in gathering of numerical type of data without taking
more time and additional cost. Qualitative research choice is another form of research that is not
valuable for present investigation because it requires more time in gathering of qualitative data
from the participants. Thus, quantitative research is useful in presenting current study
successfully.
Data collection: This is the technique r process of gathering information from the primary
and secondary sources. There is best method for researcher in collecting of primary information
i.e. questionnaire. This is important within a study as it assist in collecting of reliable data easily.
Along with this, there are different sources that are effective for researcher in collecting of
secondary data i.e. articles, books, magazines etc. Thus, primary and secondary sources are
important within an investigation for accomplishing all objectives of the research in successful
way (Wang, Wang, Li and Yang, 2020).
Time horizon: This introduces the procedure or tool of completing each and every activity
of the research in allotted time as well as in systematic manner. There are two types of time
horizon including cross-sectional and longitudinal. In order to execute activities of the present
study, cross-sectional approach is useful as it is based on actual situation and also support
researcher to complete project in limited period. This will be significant for investigator in
attainment of aim and objectives of the research easily. Gantt chart will be applied for time
management that are shown as below:

Sampling: This section of methodology supports an investigator in choosing of sample from
total population. With the help of sampling techniques such as probability and nonprobability,
researcher can select sample for study. In order to select sample for existing topic, probability
type is valuable for researcher as it support investigator in larger sample selecting within less
time. 25 respondents will be chosen on random basis by using probability sampling. Primary
advantage of following probability sampling is it not require more time and also give quantitative
output. Non-probability type is not effective for present researcher for the reason that, it not
helps in larger sample selection.
Research Instrument: There are some instruments of collecting information regarding the
topic. These are questionnaire, interview, focus group, observation etc. According to the study,
questionnaire is suitable technique as it provides valid and quantitative information in minimum

successfully and timely. Along with this, frequency distribution analysis is a useful technique
within an investigation.
Research ethics: Ethics are played an important role in all types of the researcher. There are
some ethics that are beneficial and useful for investigator in conducting of entire research
ethically. These are informed consent, integrity, confidentiality, data protection, respect for
