Project Background:
Prostate cancer is stated to be one of the leading sources of death among the male gender.
As has been witnessed in so many of the cases, early symptoms are not there to work with, which
is being deemed to be a major challenge in the process of treatment. Hence, it can be stated that
the detection of this disease is not possible during its early stages, which if could have been
possible; patients would have been saved through good treatment. United Kingdom has
witnessed a lot of deaths in prostate cancer, and as of 2016 there has been 47,000 cases
registered of males suffering from prostate cancer. Despite all this facts, the rate of survival in
this prostate cancer is almost 84 per cent; the prostate cancer cause can be prohibited by altering
the lifestyle pattern and avoiding the associated risks.
Currently, prostate cancer has been accounting for 1 per cent of the overall cases of
cancer within UK. More than 55 per cent of the prostate cancers within UK are being
documented above the age of eighty. With every passing year the number of cases of prostate
cancer is expected to increase at a rate of 12-13 per cent. White males are less prone to prostate
cancer than their black counterparts. To everyone’s surprise it has also been seen that the males
coming from the deprived areas are less prone to this disease. UK is ranked in 17th position
within Europe when it comes to prostate cancer.
It has been estimated in the past few years that on daily basis, UK witnesses around 30
deaths due to prostate cancer (Inoue 2016). It has been the fourth most general cause of death
among the individuals residing in UK. The transience rate is highest among the UK males
attaining above the age of 90.

The risk that has been generally associated with the prostate cancer mainly depends on
certain factors that take into account factors like age and genetics. There has not been much
evaluation on the preventive measures of this prostate cancer. Certain experts have argued over
the fact that a little modification in the lifestyle and food can prevent this prostate cancer a great
deal. In the coming years, if preventive measures are not being taken in the best possible ways,
prostate cancer would grow in significant manner (Woolf, Heere and Walker 2013). The actual
cause of prostate cancer has still not been known. People’s lifestyle plays a major role in the
episode of prostate cancer. Over the years, different researches have shown that if higher
sanitation level is being preserved, people have lesser chance in having prostate cancer.
The major aim of this current project is preparing an event of crowd funding that would
help in alertness program. The event manager should look into the fact that more people needs to
get involved with this key event. Only with more people getting engaged with this effort would
ensure the success of this event that is very important for the students to understand along with
their parents and other associated with it. The action plan would be work-based which would be
integrated in this project helping to tackle with the total planning of the events. The project
would also be recognizing the issues that are relevant to the higher rate of prostate cancer
occurrence in the United Kingdom. The rate of success of the project of crowd funding would be
depending on the overall funds that the organizer would be gathering along with the total figure
of people participating in the event.
Use of Tran disciplinary Models:
The opportunity of crowd funding offers innovation that are being integrated by the
entrepreneurs. The implementation process of the crowd funding can assist in dealing with the

issues that an event manager might encounter for gathering of the funds. There are certain
differences in the conventional way of raising funds with that of the crowd funding. In case of
crowd funding, the event managers does face the challenge of collecting enough cash from the
event, whereas for the traditional method of financing, help always arrived from the investors of
large scale nature (Boyer and Thompson 2014). It is significant in applying the economic
theories which are being believed to assist in all the main events.
For this particular case, the primary objective of raising funds is to enlarge the awareness
of the disease among the students and other related people of UK on the facts that are relevant to
prostate cancer, helping in preventing of the disease (Snelgrove, Wood and Havitz 2013). For
this case, the crowd funding factor would be helpful in tackling with the challenges within the
society. Students are seen as the future of any nation. So it becomes way more important in
making them realize that a little alteration or modification in their lifestyles would help them
prevent prostate cancer from cropping up. Through this crowd funding event, the event managers
would help in providing significant information about the factors leading to prostate cancer
within men.
The related events of the process of crowd funding are being prepared with the help of
the Kolb’s learning cycle. This would be facilitating the event managers in collecting the
required experience for the principle of planning the future events of relevant nature. Four
relevant learning cycles or styles can be practiced for enhancing the experience associated to
events of crowd funding. In the very first step, it is important for focusing on the factor of
experience required in dealing with the organizing of the events. Following that, it is significant
in reviewing the total experience that would be assisting the event organizer in making
improvements and adjustments of their skills as the event managers. In the last step, the learners

would be able to relate the experience in all the events that would be organized in future. This
planning would then be useful in attaining useful experience. This sort of learning cycle is being
accomplished as a key part of the plan for reflection.
The model of Honey and Mumford can be made use of as part of the model of learning
which is being primarily based on the model of Kolb’s (Inoue 2016). There is existence of four
different styles of learning which can be integrated into the event. The learners are then being
able to tackle with the opportunity factor so that they are being able to deal with the total process
of learning. Therefore, it can be stated that it is possible for the learner to improve on his

Evaluation of the efficiency of the project phase:
As has been mentioned above that prostate cancer has become one of the leading diseases
within the United Kingdom that is contributing to the death of people within the region. The key
aim of this project would be to produce consciousness for the communities of students in
universities through these charity events. The project requires to be planned in scrupulous
manner, providing major importance to the minute details in each of the steps. The project’s
initial phase is in planning the overall project paying much attention in generating awareness
about the undesirable effects of the disease and early signs of recognition and signs of the disease
(Lorente et al. 2015). The target population would be explained on the significance of the
precautionary measures for ensuring the fact that the community of students is made aware of the
harmful effects of prostate cancer and understand the measures clearly.
It requires proper understanding of the fact that the project event is generally an event of
crowd funding where the first step is generally the process of planning. Selection of the target
group is one of the initial steps in the awareness movement. For the same, the population of the
students of the GSM has been selected and each of them has been assessed for their prior
medical history along with their awareness level on the topic of prostate cancer. For the purpose
of integrating the information in the most effective of manners among the targeted audience
selected, resources of interactive learning becomes necessary. As it a crowd funding event, there
is need of hosting a charity race for supporting the event in financial terms. The charity race has
been planned to go within the community of Greenwich in facilitating the easy management and
organizing of the overall event. T-shirts and vests with cancer printed on it would be arranged as
the participants would be wearing the same at the time of the race for supporting the campaign
and promoting the same.

The campaign would be making efficient use of the social media factors for the race
which would be raising funds. The event would be taking in the group of WhatsApp and
Facebook trending invites for generating a sensation about the campaigned event. The funding
that has been raised requires proper utilization of the awareness promotion with the rest being
contributed to the local charity (Hyde et al. 2016). That awareness event integrated secondary
along with primary data for the constructing of the educational resources for the group that is
being targeted. The secondary data has been gathered from the authentic sources and literature
that has been recently published or on previous occasions related to the subject matter along with
the database which is being used for the principle of the purposes of researches. It takes in
PubMed,WebMD along with google scholar for bringing in relevant information. The integrated
information has been included into forms of presentation and leaflets that needs to be
disseminated to the target group at the event end. The primary data has been gathered through
the help of interviews from the cancer research workforce for availing of the valid information
on the preventive measures of the disease along with early detection of the same.
The phase of planning has been scrupulous along with being highly controlled in
planning of the event. The event organizer requires taking every step carefully for the completion
of the event. The next phase would include selection of the volunteers through the interview
process, screening of the target group, management of learning resource along with the process
of distribution. The project’s third phase would take in their project engagement process and the
overall organization would be taking atleast 10 days for completion of the same. The completion
of the project through the help of the event management team was done in successful manner
without many hiccups on the way. The last stage is the completion stage where the targeted
group was evaluated on their understanding of the gained knowledge from the event. The

students along with the other members associated with the event were being presented with an
edifying handout taking in the important points about the disease, the early signs that may evolve
which the ones sufferings need to understand along with the preventive measures. All these four
phases of the project had been balanced in the most critical of fashions, helping in making it
effective for the resources being invested along with attainment of the successful management
and event completion (Huston and Coleman 2016). This has enabled the event organizing team
in overcoming the barriers that have been stumbled upon along the overall process of project
completion.
Discussion of required skills:
There can be several external and internal variables that has the ability in jeopardizing the
organizing of any planned major event. For the purpose of overcoming of these issues there
requires a few skills of event management and leadership qualities. According to me, as this has
been a campaign based on the priority of public health and preventive program of prostate
cancer, communication skills along with presentation becomes important. Incorporation of
relevant information about the prostate cancer was essential, starting from the initial signs, the
adverse effects of the disease along with the preventive measures required for such a disease. As
the event manager it was important to have that required skill of communication, presentation
and description for ensuring that the gathered audience was able to construe the relevant
information that was being circulated by the team (London 2015).
On the other hand, this requires much admittance that the successful completion of this
event was possible due to the help offered to me by my team in every possible step, both for
planning of the event along with execution of the same (Appleton et al. 2015). Utilization of the

efficient cooperation along with collaboration and skills of team working was being acquired
during the overall process. Along with this, we efficiently implicated the significance of
integrating the various opinions along with ideas of all the members of the team, helping the
event project to be included that is highly applicable. One of the foremost requirements for
successful completion this project has been the acquiring of efficient skills of leadership that
helped me in managing and guiding of the team in the actual path, helping me resolving any sort
of internal issues (Bauer 2014).
Along with that is the requirement for interpretative and conceptualize skills within the
event project had been of supreme consequence, the constructing of the resources of learning for
the target group, the requirement for the appropriate interpretative and skills for complex
analysis are one of the pivotal factors. In the course of the overall process of planning and
execution of the complete event where there has been instances of miscommunication and
misinterpretation of the situation, the skills for problem solving and applicative ones have been
the most beneficial ones. Finally, as this particular event project took in the constructing of the
manual and digital resources for the target cluster, digital skills along with the numeracy assisted
me in competing the event venture in time.
Analysis of taken action:
The event project integrated several of the consistent actions that mutually helped in the
successful achievement of the project. The first action that has been taken for successful
completion of this project is selecting the target group for the awareness event. Studies have been
able to suggest the fact that around 45 per cent of the men who are adult are prone towards
developing of the prostate cancer within their attainment of age 40 (Filo, Spence and Sparvero

2013). Many of the scientists are of the opinion that the previous techniques of prevention along
with the factor of awareness has been the only hope in lessening the increased rates prostate
cancer within UK’s middle aged male population. Hence, the main target audience was the
Greenwich community students for this particular awareness program, acceptable for the fact
that the population of the younger students would be the best beneficiary for such an awareness
program (MacKessack-Leitch 2017). They are the likely ones to circulate the information gained
by them through this event among their friends and family. Students would understand better the
severity of the disease for which they would be able to integrate the changes within their lifestyle
and avoiding any prospect of developing the disease badly.
In order to be conscious of the selected target group, the resources for learning were
being developed for which both the primary and the secondary data has been taken in for the
target group to gain the knowledge required from the research studies that were being published
on previous occasions. It also took in the expert knowledge from both the well known
oncologists and other cancer researchers. The primary data was being gathered from the
interviews through telephones through the questionnaires for extracting related information, for
the secondary data we have researched the most reliant databases like WebMD, PubMed and
CINAHL for ensuring that the provided information to the targeted group requires being
flawless.
For conducting of such an exclusive investigation of the research, an adequate funding
has been a must. For gathering of the suitable funding for the purpose of the event, we as an
organizing team opted for the technique of crowd funding, as this event program was for making
the people aware of this deadly disease. This event through crowd funding helped us in gathering
