1PSYCHO AND SOCIO TREATMENT ON ADHD
Introduction:
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disorder that makes an individual
incapable and challenging to control their impulsive behavior. It is a complex neurodevelopment
disorder that may impact children or an adult doing well in life since it damages the potential of
thinking attentively (Daley et al., 2014). In this paper, the essay will discuss the psychological
and social treatment of ADHD. While psychological treatment involves treatments focusing on
the psychological aspect, the social treatment focus on the environment of the person with
ADHD. The paper aims to discuss the treatment for ADHD through the psychological approach
and social approach.
The psychological treatment for ADHD
Psychological treatment is a kind of behavioral therapy in which a person can learn the
ways of changing their behavior. According to studies, ADHD is a valid disorder that continues
to affect a large proportion of patient into adulthood. It is associated with significant and costly
functional impairment in several domains (Coghill et al.,2014). Several approaches can be
considered in order to treat ADHD through psychological treatment. Medication and behavioral
treatment are used widely for treating ADHD. It has been observed that patients who opt for
behavioral treatments such as a parent's training, neurofeedback, and therapy, they seek less
medication. However, according to several influential studies, there are two approaches that may
work best for ADHD.
The most common medication used for ADHD are stimulants such as Ritalin and
Adderall. The patients who do not respond well to stimulants, non-stimulants such as Strattera or
certain classes of antidepressants can be used. Regardless of the medication that is used for the

ADHD person, it is important to receive the appropriate dosage. Since, ADHD medications are
capable of worsening other conditions, specifically stimulants that may co-occur with ADHD
such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, and anxiety (Sharma & Couture, 2014).
Cognitive and behavioral therapy is the most widely used intervention used by the
psychologists as a method of coping with ADHD. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps to make
the person with ADHD more aware of their thinking and mood effect. It will help to recognize
and acknowledge their way of interacting with other people. CBT helps in learning specific
social skills by role play and other methods. Behavior therapy is one of the process that is used
as the fundamentals of behavioral therapy is easy to understand as well as implement without
much help from a therapist. Also, as a first-line treatment when children receive behavioral
therapy, there is more scope of progress than the ones who start with medication. The earlier
behavior therapy begins; the treatment gets to work from the early stage. It also provides longer
and better lasting results for the person with ADHD. It is an effective therapy that can improve
behavior, self-control, and self-esteem. Behavioral therapy that is provided by parents with the
support of therapist of healthcare providers can teach children to control their behavior in better
ways. Behavior such as functioning in school, home, and relationship with parents will be
benefited by this behavior therapy.
Social treatment for ADHD
Social treatment for ADHD will involve non-drug interventions that focus on making an
adjustment in the environmental setting of the individual with ADHD. Social treatment of
ADHD is to create structure and encourage routines that would help the ADHD patient. The
social methods of treating ADHD can include creating routines or schedule. A most individual
with ADHD need help in organizing their lives (Marshall et al., 2014). Therefore, some of the

most straightforward interventions that would help the patient can be beneficial. Ensuring the
same routine with every day for the patient is highly advisable as it assists in getting accustomed
to the routine. Helping the patient organize everyday items such as clothing, backpacks, and
school will help the patient in completing the essential works. Since children with ADHD are
distracted continuously due to lack of concentration, it is essential to keep them under consistent
rules. The rules can be easy and simple that can be easy for the person with ADHD to follow.
Conclusion:
As discussed above, it is a complex neurodevelopment disorder that may impact children
or an adult doing well in life since it damages the potential of thinking attentively. The disease
can impact behavioural changes in a child that is caused by brain anatomy and wiring. There are
several challenges faced by the person with ADHD, however, along with the person with
ADHD, it is also the families that need major support and therapies in order to help their person
in the house with ADHD.
