Case Study
AI Summary
This case study employs a psycho-social model, specifically Bowlby’s attachment theory, to analyze the situation of a 32-year-old divorcee named Jane, who has a history of traumatic experiences, including an estranged relationship with her parents, a physically and mentally abusive marriage, and current struggles with substance abuse and anger management. The assessment plan identifies Jane's strengths, weaknesses, triggers, and target behaviors, focusing on maintaining her job, supporting her daughter, and repairing relationships. The intervention plan proposes strategies such as psychological analysis, anger management, and potential reconciliation with her parents. The evaluation of outcomes emphasizes the importance of monitoring Jane's progress, assigning her to a psychiatrist, and involving her daughter in the process. The conclusion highlights the appropriateness of the psycho-social model in mitigating Jane's fears and improving her mental condition, while acknowledging limitations such as the model's failure to distinguish between deprivation and privation. HUMAN SERVICE INTERVENTION
Introduction and summary of the model
A psycho-social model that can be used to analyse the situation of Jane. For example,
the use of Bowlby’s attachment theory can help in determining the issue. According to Healy
(2005), the attachment theories are instinctive and can be activated by conditions that may
threaten achieving proximity. The factors that trigger the fear include loss, separation and
insecurity. At the same time the fear of strangers, display an important survival mechanism
that is built by nature. Observation made by Howe (2002) suggests that the attachment of the
individuals work like actions patterns and have the function as one another. The attachment
of the people is formed from an early childhood state in which any traumatic incident in the
initial attachment may affect subsequent attachments in a negative manner (Clarke 2018).
In the case of Jane, the reason for the implementation of this particular model is that
as per the case study, Jane has issues related to attachment. It is evidenced that Jane had a
traumatic childhood and was estranged from her parents having been referred to as the “black
sheep” of the house. Her pregnancy at 16 years of age was the catalyst for her estrangement
with her parents. Moreover, she had a traumatized five years marriage experience in which
she had been assaulted physically and mentally tortured. She had been admitted to a hospital
due to her tortures.
Hence, the application of the theory in case of Jane can help her to maintain a proper
relationship with her daughter. As seen from the case study, her daughter and Jane maintain a
good relationship with one other. However, her fear of financial issues and her constant
intoxicated state has caused her to be admitted in the emergency department of a hospital.
Hence, an assessment can be made about the behavior of Jane.

HUMAN SERVICE INTERVENTION
Jane is a 32-year-old divorcee working as a shop assistant in a local supermarket. She
is estranged from her family and at the age of 16, she had a daughter. The reason for the
initial referral is caused due to her argument with her boyfriend while in an intoxicated state.
She remains worried about finances and is addicted to smoking cigarettes, marijuana and
prone to drinking. The right and responsibility of Jane is to have a normal life without having
to fear about the safety of herself and her daughter. For this, reason she needs to ensure that
she remains a loyal employee and dedicated at her work.
Currently Jane resides with her boyfriend and daughter in a two-bedroom unit. Her
strength is her daughter and the job that she has. She has a history of traumatic relationships
in which she survived a marriage of five years consisting of physical assault and verbal
abuse. The long term of the client is to maintain her job and look to provide her daughter with
proper education. The short-term goal or immediate goal is to stop using weeds and alcohol
and focus on attaining the long-term goal. At her current state, Jane possesses a risk of being
arrested and sent to prison for disturbing the peace in the neighbourhood. The management of
the risk can be done by ensuring that Jane maintains a stable sense and refrain from having
loud arguments with her boyfriend. At the same time, visiting a care facility that deals with
anger management and relationship issue can help Jane.
The support that is already in place for Jane is in the emergency department of a
hospital in which Jane is questioned about her past and an analysis of her mental health is
taken into consideration. The suitability is that the mental condition of Jane can be cured.
Jane can be diagnosed from her fears and problems and a follow up team can be assigned so
that her actions after being discharged can be accounted for. The support option that can be
provided for Jane is a psychological analysis of her state of mind. The possible strategies that
need to be adopted is the application of psycho-social theories so that her fear of being
attached to people for a long time can be assessed.

The duration required for the cure will depend upon the responses provided by Jane
along with her ability to cooperate. In addition to the hospital, Jane can be referred to a
psychologist and be asked to reside with her parents so that the psychological trauma can be
mitigated. The psychologist can provide the review and monitoring of the condition of Jane
after every session. Even so, a follow up can help in analysing the condition of Jane so that
she does not show any suicidal tendencies.
Intervention plan for the client
Name: Jane
Age: 32
Strength: The two positive aspects in the life of Jane is her daughter and the job that
she has
Weakness: She fears about her financial condition and has anger management issues,
which is mainly caused by the consumption of alcohol and smoking of marijuana. She also
has suicidal tendencies. She also has issues related to being attached with people.
Triggers: Her fears are triggered after being intoxicated and after having any
arguments with her boyfriends. These fears originate from a five year physically assaulted
marriage that she had.
Behaviour: Jane’s behaviours tend to change after setting up of the triggers. She tends
to be violent with no regards of the neighbouring area. At the same time, Jane tends to deny
facts and truths about her life. As seen from the case, she denied the consumption of alcohol.
She remains agitated and showed restrictions to respond to questions about her life.
Target behaviour: The target behaviour that is expected from Jane is that she needs to
remain calm and at the same time ensure that she provides support to her daughter. She needs

to continue her work and try to repair her relationship with her parents so that she can lead a
normal and happy life. For this, it is necessary that proper medical treatment be provided to
her and from her part Jane needs to be honest about her life, actions and fears.
Evaluating the outcomes
The intervention plan has managed to identify target behaviour for Jane. According to
Turner (2017), an intervention plan helps in developing proper strategies after assessing the
strengths and weakness of the client. In the case of Jane, the outcome is in the form of
maintaining a sound mind so that she can provide support to her daughter. It has been
evidenced that Jane showed tendencies to commit suicide after being arrested by the police.
This may be due to the fact of her belief that her former experiences can haunt her at the
present.
However, with the strategies proposed in the intervention session, it can be said that
Jane might lead a proper life (Basham et al. 2016). However, it is also necessary to monitor
her progress and evaluate the outcome. According to Newman and Newman (2017), it is
important that patients released from psychiatric care be monitored properly based on the
progress. In the case of Jane, in order to ensure that she maintains her target behaviour, it is
necessary that she be assigned to a psychiatrist so that she can present her fears to the person.
This can help Jane to continue with her life and ensure that she remains sober while working
and taking care of her daughter.
The intervention plan suggests that Jane need to repair her relationship with her
parents. Her daughter can perform the monitoring of this action so that Jane can find
solutions to problems, which are crucial in her life. Therefore, the evaluation can be made
based on the results shown by Jane and the actions undertaken to ensure a proper life.
Conclusion

HUMAN SERVICE INTERVENTION
Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of psycho-social theory can help in
bringing about a mitigation technique for the fear suffered by Jane. It is necessary to
understand that Jane suffers from committing to a relationship and with the help of the theory
such fear can be removed from the mind of Jane. At the same time, Jane can repair her
relationship with her parents and hope that her daughter is not deprived of any care from her.
Hence, the theory is appropriate for restoring the mental condition of Jane and at the same
time provides her with a proper life with her daughter and her boyfriend.
However, there may be certain limitations to the application of the model. As stated
by Morgan (2014) one of the limitations of the psycho-social model is that it does not
distinguish between deprivation and privation. Therefore, it can be said that private memories
of Jane may not be entirely secure. Therefore, this can cause a great deal of trauma for Jane
and at the same time remove any satisfactory memories that she may have about her life.
Apart from this limitation, the application of psycho-social theories can help Jane to recover
from her current psychological condition.
