Psychological theories in person experiencing increased level of stress
The stress is the state of mind due to which the blood pressure of an individual
decreases and person is not able to perform task appropriately. The stress can be
developed because of physical, mental or emotional response to specific condition.
This is a reaction of human body towards the changing environment and situations.
The psychological stress can be consequences of the stress, illness, bereavement
and chronic diseases. The various psychological theories like cognitive theory can
be applied in the actions and behavior of individual who is experiencing high
amount of stress in developmental stages of life span. The cognitive approach will
help in improving the positive thinking and contribute in enhancing the
performance level of person by acting confidently and responsive towards stressful
conditions. Individual can develop positive thinking approach by implementing the
psychological theories like psychosocial theory inn action to deal with stressful
situation in workplace efficiently.
Appointed as social worker for local authority of Camden the individual studies to
cases suffering from various problem. Pat is 8 years old child who involving in
mixed family and not having good relationship with father. The individual relation
is not good in school and with student and facing huge problems in solving
numeracy problems due to increased stress level. So, the environment at home and
relation with his father leads to stressful condition and he is not able to act
responsibly in sociological environment. Pat should implement various
psychological theories in order to reduce stress level.
The behavioral disturbances are frequent changes in actions and nature of
individual while dealing with some situation. This behavioral disturbance can be
because of past experience of individual or because of mental illness or another
influencing social or physical factors. As appointed as social worker for local
authority of Camden Jennifer is 65 years old service user of medical institution
who is recently discharged from hospital for his replacement. She evidenced that
nurse was unfriendly as observed in post treatment survey. When Jennifer calls
nurse staff for beverages and cashew nuts then the response of the nurse was not
good which leads to higher dissatisfaction of user. Jennifer is not having intention
to go back to hospital even her doctor’s advices for second hip replacement. This
behavior is shown because of disturbances in her action because of bad experience
with the hospital staff. So the psychological theories can be applied in order to deal
with disturbances effectively. The psychological theories help in identifying the
various type of behavioral disturbances in the nature of person like deficit
disorders, autistic spectrum disorders and behaviors associated with addiction. The
addictive behavior is shown by person when individual is addicted towards the use
of some objectives and develops a habit of consuming the things on daily basis.
This can be caused because of different stressful condition and various situation
experiencing in environment.
Psychological theories are having great importance in relation with the health and
social care setting. These theories help in defining the various aspects of individual
health and behavior. For example: various theories help in evaluating the behavior
and actions executed by individuals in different stages of life span. On the other
hand, psychological theories also help in identifying the behavioral disturbances
and diagnosing the mental health disorders. So, the psychological theory is having
great relevance in relation with the health and social care settings. These theories
also help in identifying and evaluating the relation of individual with family
member and response of person towards society. Psychological theory helps in
defining the state of mind which can be used in providing better health care to the
individual by assessing psychic health of person by applying various psychological
theories in practice. So, these theories are having great importance in relation with
the health and social care settings.
National conference is organized for 3 days which is sponsored by World health
organization (WHO). In this national conference, various mental disorders are
discussed along with identifying their diagnosis approaches and the evaluating
appropriate treatment for the sufferings. The various mental illness such as
schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, anxiety disorders
and eating disorders etc. These all can be understood by implementing different
type of psychological theories in practice of health and social care settings. The
different stages followed for care are diagnosis, treatment, intervention and
medication in order recover from the disease and leave and healthy life. This helps
in better development of new skills and competencies of human body while
delivering through different stages of life span. Some of the mental health disorder
are discussed below through understanding these diseases by applying the various
psychological theories in practices which are represented as follows:
Depression- The state of mind when the individual feels sad in known as
depression. This will lead to abnormal and non-functioning of the body and
individual in different situation appropriately. This is most commonly disease
developed in the nature of a person. The cause for the depression can be
psychological, environmental or genetics as well. The symptoms shown by
individual suffering from depression are anxious, restlessness, appetite loss, pains
and hopelessness etc.
Schizophrenia- This is a chronic disease which affects the brain cells of the
individual. In this person or the sufferer feels that he in controlled by another
person and someone is controlling his mind and actions. This is commonly shown
by the people who abuse drugs on regular basis. Another cause can be genetic or
because of influencing factors in external environment.
Eating disorder- In this disorder the person is not following proper diet
and there are disturbances in regular meals of suffering people. The body become
unstructured and shape and weight of the human body is disturbed in this eating
disorder.
Health and social care setting plays a significant role in developing healthy life of
individual. This helps in promoting the better health of sufferer bringing significant
changes in the behaviour and actions of person which are essential for individual to
develop confidently in different stages across life span. The psychological theories
are having significant role in enhancing the health by developing behavioural
changes in actions of individual. The theories help in developing positive thinking
approach to react confidently with different stressful conditions in environment.
Environmental, behavioural and personal characteristics of an individual is the
determining aspect of the behaviour and nature of individual executives towards
particular situation. The various psychological theories like humanistic theory,
behavioural, cognitive, learning theory, planned behaviour theory etc. can be
helpful in brining different behavioural changes in action of the individual in order
to act responsibly towards the issues of health and fitness.
