Why is it important for psychologist to study the brain?
The brain situated at the core of the focus of the domain of entire neuroscience.
Psychologists conduct researches about brain for different reasons. According to the book
‘Essentials of Understanding Psychology’ – psychology is the process of scientific analysis of
behaviour and mental processes (Parkin, 2013). The book states that psychologists need to
study the book to analyse how the nervous system and brain along with the other biological
factor of human body determines the behaviour.
The reason of studying about human brain is to understand the experimental
dimension of psychology. According to the book, it is one of the branches of psychology to
understand the process of learning, sensing, perceiving and thinking about the worldly
consequences (Baddeley, 2013). The cognitive dimension of brain brings forth the
importance of extensive processing of mind including memory, thinking, and reasoning.
Hence, the psychologists will be able to understand how the brain functions for building
one’s personality. According to psychology, personality refers to the consistent behaviour of
an individual observed over a long period of time. Personality is a kind of trait that
distinguishes one individual from another. Hence, the book Essential Understanding of
Psychology covers all the dimensions of human brain including perception, cognition,
behavioural foundation, learning, development, mental disorders, and personality.
Psychologists need to study the functions of brain to build connection among all the
