Introduction
Development is an important aspect in the lives of human beings, as it helps them to hone
their skills and develop their minds so that they can survive in the world. The development of
humans will help them in tackling the obstacles in a strategical manner that they may face in their
lives at a later stage. The process of development in a child begins at their homes and continues
throughout their school lives that teaches them how to deal with the problems that they may face in
the real-life scenario. However, some of the children are not able to develop in a proper manner due
to some physical disabilities that makes their lives dependent on others and may lead to depressions
adn anxiety at a later stage (Van der Kolk 2017).
Discussion
The physical difficulty or disability may cause the child to be withdrawn from the society,
which may lead to stress, depression and anxiety within them. They may have difficulty in
communicating as their body language along with their speech may be under-developed due to the
lack of education. A disabled child may often experience stigma that may lead to competence in
their physical health and impair their interactions with the society as well (Gardner 2014).
An example of this would be that a disabled child may find it difficult in taking part in any
sports activities that are undertaken in the schools. This may lead towards a feeling of being
withdrawn from the society, as children are able to develop friendships through proper exercises on
team building (Salomon 2012). Whenever a child is not being able to join in the fun activities in the
school premises, they miss out on the development of their social side as well. The sports activities
help the children in supporting an active lifestyle failing which may lead to obesity. This further
affects the development of the body, which can lead to a lower self-esteem among the child
affecting their social skills as well (Van der Kolk 2017).
Most of the young children try to mix with others during the recess periods that are
provided in the schools. This allows them the opportunity to make friends in the playground and
maintain their physical structure as well. When the child is not being able to perform any one of
these, it leads to a feeling of loneliness, as they are not being able to make any friends in the society
(Gardner 2014). The use of the recess periods also allow the child to burn the excess energy failing
which may lead the children to focus on some mischievous acts as well. This may lead the children to
lack concentration in their classrooms that may affect their process of learning as well. Therefore, it
may lead to less amount of cognitive development and they may face difficulty in their ability to read

their later lives (Van der Kolk 2017).
Another example of this would be the children who suffer from hearing and visual problems,
as they also face difficulty in building up relationships within the school premises and develop their
social skills as well. These children are made to attend the schools that are fit for them, as they are
surrounded with other children who are dealing with the same problem. This helps them in building
their relations in a better manner and avoids the bullying that they may have faced if they were
admitted in the normal schools (Bjorklund and Causey 2017). These schools can create an effect on
the children that may lead them to stay lonely and not socialize with the normal people that are
living within the society. It may also lead to the loss of communication among them, as children with
hearing and visual problems may not be able to put their ideas forward in a correct manner within
the society. Deafness among the children may lead them to use the sign languages through which
only a few people can communicate as it cannot be understood easily. They communicate mostly
with their body language, which is not easy for most of the people to understand (Lewis 2012).
Children with cognitive disability may have difficulty in communicating in a proper manner.
Cognitive disabilities are mainly divided in to two groups such as clinical and functional disability. The
clinical disabilities from which the child may suffer are Down syndrome and brain injury that may
lead to conditions of loss of memory such as amnesia or Alzheimer’s. Functional disabilities are those
in which the children may have difficulty in solving their own problems or communicating in a proper
manner. These children need assistance to cope up with their daily life in the modern world
(Salomon 2012).
Children suffering from Down syndrome may have an excellent understanding of the
language but may face difficulty in expressing themselves in the school premises due to their
irregular speech techniques. This may affect their social skills as well, which may lead to behavioural
or emotional difficulties and suffer from depression as well (Booth and Dunn 2013).
Conclusion
Therefore it can be concluded that children with physical disabilities may find it difficult to
survive on their own in the real world, as they may have difficulty in communicating with others. This
may lead to anxiety and depression in their lives, which will make it difficult for them to survive.
They need to be sent to special schools so that their confidence can be boosted and they can
communicate in a better manner with the normal people.
