Self-Concept Analysis
Introduction
The theory of self-concept opens the avenue of understanding the self-image one
possesses of themselves and shows how it is responsible for the way we behave and react in
daily life. Self-concept theory can be defined as the construct of the characteristics of features
a person has of themselves, which is considered to be the result of multifaceted perception
influenced by hierarchal as well as academic understanding (Guo, 2016). Self-concept is

formed with the information an individual gathers from their surrounding that can be taken as
the scale of measurement. It is always heavily influenced by the perception of people who are
close to the individual and possess considerable value in their life. The thesis statement of the
paper is tracing the process of self-analysis and the factors working behind it.
Discussion
The self-concept analysis was one of the most challenging things I have done for
being an introvert I have always stayed to myself, but it was a surprise to think about
describing me or attributing myself with limited adjectives. To describe me, as an individual
consisting of qualities that can be described with the help of adjectives, which we are in the
habit of using to describe others. The realization that the identifier stands for the self-image I
have of myself made it a hard job to complete. The most surprising entry of self-analysis was
the ranking of my reserved self as bold. I have always been perceived as a soft, shy, and
reserved person, but the self-image of being a bold person opened up the view of my feature
of being able to talk at junctures where it was needed.
I was surprised by my friend’s table, for it reflected the point of view towards me.
However, the addition of the term ‘modest’ was surprising to see. It is because I see myself as
an individual who expects things to be according to the custom. The observant nature seemed
to have worked in the positive for me as my approach towards people has been noticed as it
coincided with my own list. The match for the adjective ‘friendly’ describes the assessment,
which is carried on the self-analysis process. Both the tables did not turn up the way it was
expected for my desk was a self-revelation of the self-image, but the other table showed the
perception of the person of me as a friend rather than as an individual.
Reflected appraisal are the views about oneself as a result of the understanding of the
light other people see and assess them. The attribute of sympathizing with others is the result

of reflected appraisal in the list. The other list shows it in a brighter light because the
characteristics denoted are the combining result of the effort from my side to maintain a
sympathetic approach (Saadat, et al., 2017). The aim of accepting people for what they are
and who they are is the result of the adjective of friendliness that the fundamental outlook
towards life includes. It emerges from the place that the reserved nature helps me observe
things better and helps in understanding another perception making it easier for me to accept.
An example of self-appraisal can be seen with the self-image of being an organized
observant, which helps me notice the smallest gesture and action. The conscious effort of
staying friendly and yet organized can be predicted to stem from my self-appraisal for the
way I want people to perceive my character. This appraisal roots from the expectation of the
society to be responsible and accepting of the events unfolding in life, which has let be an
observant person and react according to the assessment of those expectations. Form a very
young age, I was expected to be careful and responsible for my own actions, which led me to
develop the observant condition, and that has been the period when I started to view myself
as an individual who is seen and understood for her organizational construct.
Social comparison is the unconscious adherence of one’s own image in light of the
other’s evaluation. The attribute which emerged from a social comparison in the list is being
a complex individual (Romund, et al., 2017). It was because of the familial view I had to face
since childhood. Being a reserved and observant person, it has always been hard to socialize
as much as people of my age, which leads to the evaluation of myself as complex. It is also
because I have a friendly approach and yet unable to maintain the same social affinity, which
is measured as usual in the family. During the assessment, the discovery and admittance of
being complex is the result of the acceptance of the scale of measurement, which is rooted in
childhood experience.

5SELF-CONCEPTION AND SELF-REFLECTION
The complete self-concept and self-analysis process changed the way I understood
society and the little experiences, which leaves a huge mark in the mental formation of an
individual. The understanding that the view of myself as an involved person is perhaps not a
correct judgment of the self-image opens the door of acceptance of myself in a new light.
Moreover, the primary derivation of the process of understanding that there is an urgent of
acceptance of myself.
Conclusion
The paper incorporates three of the critical theories which help an individual discover
their self-esteem and the way their psychological barriers can be navigated. The paper builds
the understanding by limiting the use of adjectives through the Johari Window which makes
the scope narrower which is useful for the analysis of the choices on makes. The use of
psychological concept of self-actualization and the formation of self-image is the result of
conscious and unconscious part of the adaptation from the society and the experiences. The
social construct one grows up in is a pivotal contributor of the self-concept. The
understanding and the knowledge of the concept of reflected appraisal and social comparison
is very important for everyone as it can help an individual in understanding themselves and
can work in accelerating or diffusing the desired attribute.
