1REFLECTION ON THE PREVIOUS ASSIGNMENT
Introduction
The paper seeks to delve into the core of a reflective study, which is going to start with the
concept of reflection. According to Patterson & Chapman (2013), reflection is a concept in
which an individual goes through a series of events and experience certain situations while
reconsidering them in mind. However, they suggest that reflection is more than just
reconsideration where an individual focuses on understanding the situation on his own for
which he has to revisit the entire phenomenon to and infuse it with his own experience and
comprehension. Boyd & Failed (1983) also supported their view by establishing the idea of
reflection to be the self-analysis and understanding of the situation on his own. The
importance of reflection is justified by many scholars and they have shown that the clinical
environment needs it more because it helps one to understand the treatment procedure
better. Reflection is also used in academic presentation to work on the improvement of skills
that have been employed.
Many scholars have provided models on reflection among which I shall be focusing on the
reflective cycle as shown by Gibbs (1988). The six stages that are the fundamental parts of
the cycle are description followed by feelings and evaluation then comes the part of analysis
and conclusion. This is finally finished with an action plan. Writing a good reflection needs
attention in every stage to understand the situation and how it can be implemented in life.
The objective of the paper is to show what methods have been put to use to complete the
first assignment.
Method of finding Literature
As the introduction of the first assignment suggests that it would depend on Evidence Based
Practice (EBP) I had to find out information on what EBP is. Therefore, I accessed the
university library to find out information on this topic. When I wrote “significance of EBP” in
the search option, I was given access to more than fifteen scholarly articles on this topic.
However, I was astonished at the sight of the abundance of relevant literatures hence I had

to rewrite “definition of EBP” and choose five articles and chose other five from “relevance of
EBP”. If I had to go through a stack of books, it would have taken a lot of time to get the
grasp of the subject whereas the access to the library of the university helped me. I have
added the concept of hierarchy of evidence in my paper.
Moving on to the discussion part of the assignment, I started focusing on Anterior Cruciate
Ligament because the focal point of mu assignment was orthopedic assessment. I have
given emphasis specially upon the sections of Lachman’s Special Test and the concept of
Anterior Drawer Test because in the case of the pivotal shift, these are important. For this
section, I have mainly taken help from the books and the class notes we were provided with.
It is unavoidable that I had to struggle a lot to find the exact points I was looking for. Some
parts were extremely relevant and appropriate for the topic I have been working with while
some parts of the same book were not helpful at all. If I knew how to search the exact thing I
wish to incorporate in my paper, then I would have searched in that way but tha was not the
case. When I chose a paper looking at the overview, I thought it could be helpful but it turned
something else. Therefore, it took my immense effort and time.
The information of how the knee can be examined physically depends on the Lachman test
and its result is supported by Makhmalbaf, Moradi & Omidi (2013). I have literally gone
through this paper from beginning to the ending about how positive result and negative result
can bring changes to the pivotal position. The sources I have used are not that recent but it
is true that I had to use them to make my paper authentic. Sometimes, the language of all
the papers were very difficult for me to decipher and the particular article or the book had to
be excluded from the paper even though it had appropriate contents. Sometimes, I
interpreted the class notes wrong therefore the inclusion of my own interpretation draw a
negative impact on the paper. I have searched many articles on books on orthopedic study
but could not match them with justness of my topic. Sometimes I searched things from
Google to understand things clearly. This was helpful for me but I missed the bibliography
and the citation part. The parts those were written in simpler language could not be cited.

However, I clearly focused on three different literatures and literally compared them to one
another to assess the topic that I have chosen. When three articles were finalized I could
easily narrow down on what parts I have to deal with. The paper, Journal of athletic training
by Ostrowski (2006) has been really helpful in my close observation to what I was trying to
put into my paper. This paper worked magically for my assignment and helped me the most
in understanding the effects and impact of tests. Another paper that was really helpful was
written by Steves & Hootman (2004) that assisted me in understanding my class notes and
also explained the issues that I have been struggling with from the beginning of the paper.
My Feedback
I have received a bunch of good comments by my professor. However, I have a huge scope
of improvement. If the comments can be incorporated in the next assignments then I can
definitely show improvements in the forthcoming projects. However, I have seen that the
quality of academic writing can be improved and I need to learn avoiding colloquial
languages and make it more integrated according to the topic. The importance of putting
reference is to show that the literatures that have been used are cited properly. The main
problem that was highlighted in my assignment was the minimalistic and misplacement of
the citation. It is visible that I have put enough references but I have not put them correctly in
rightful places. Certain things I have fetched from the class notes and the experiences I have
gathered in classes but I failed to justify the sources accurately. I have not even used more
number of scholarly articles on a single topic therefore my assignment seems to be loose-
fitted and not well researched. One thing I have learnt from this feed is that one particular
topic needs multiple number of sources to support because that makes the argument of an
assignment stronger.
I have presented the argument with my understanding whereas I should have incorporated
multiple references to back my understanding of the topic. In some of the places, I have

given sufficient information that has drawn the attention of the professor however, it is also
evident from the information that they cannot be some interpretation. It has definitely come
from reliable sources. I made a mistake of not justifying them with proper citation.
Sometimes my sentences have been too long to comprehend that I need to address from
the next time onwards. However, this feedback is really helpful for me to understand the
loopholes in making the assignments that would further teach me how I can bring
improvement in the next projects.
Conclusion
The study shows that how reflection is helpful in understanding the whole concept and going
through a lofty process through which certain findings or outcomes are expected to be
reached at the end. Reflection writing helps in knitting the paper more tightly with the
experiences that have been achieved from the course. It not only helps in making a
noticeable change in academic writing but also it makes an individual more critical and
analytical. Therefore, this style of reflection helps a clinical practitioner to feel and assess the
situation critically before taking any drastic decision. This improved the sphere of practice
and also helps in understanding the treatment procedure more and better. Reflection models
that have been discussed in the paper help in understanding all the stages of a course and
how they should be incorporated in real life. at the need of every reflective cycle, there
should be an action plan that would help an individual to keep the learning in mind and apply
them accordingly.
For the assignment, I have done several mistakes, which I will try not to repeat again.
The first thing I shall keep on practicing is that writing short and effective sentences. This
style of writing is not only easy to grasp the attention of the readers but also is easy to
construct. I have to keep in mind the condition of lessening the number of colloquial
language as much as possible. The difficult part would be the arrangement of finding the
appropriate literature accordingly and use them in the correct place during citation. From

next time, I would try to introduce two sides of a point so that can establish my argument
strongly by turning down the other point with sufficient references.
