Critical Appraisal of Legionnaires' Disease Epidemiology Studies

This report presents a critical appraisal of three studies related to Legionnaires' disease, a potentially fatal form of pneumonia. The first study is an environmental and cohort study that investigates a residential outbreak among older adults, analyzing attack rates, risk factors, and the use of a case-finding algorithm. The second study is a systematic review that explores Legionellosis associated with recreational waters, assessing cases and outbreaks in swimming pools, spa pools, and similar environments. The third study is a case-control study investigating an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at the Melbourne Aquarium. Each study is evaluated using the CASP checklist, considering the validity of the results, the results themselves, and their local applicability.
