This report discusses about the case study of a 54-year-old women Clara and the struggle
faced by her in personal life as well as in family. Being poor and raised by the aunt, Clara
never had a comforting childhood. Later, after her marriage and having children she had
faced lots of struggle mostly financially. The common thing that can be studied that lack of
education and learning has made all of the members of the family to have an unstable and
poor economical setup resulting in cutting. Education as a social determinant is crucial in
have a supportive life and to meet all the human basic needs required for survival without
much struggle, which is not in the case of the scenario being provided. Apart from that health
education is important and the healthcare professional plays a major role in educating people
about it.

The socio-demographic features help in understanding the life cycle of a person. The
deliveries of social determinants are often molded by policies that reflect the dominant
political principles of the area (Marmot, 2018). This report will analyses the case of a 54-
year-old woman and her family members. This report will discuss socio-demographic
variables and later the discussion will connect the case and the variables. Further, this report
will discuss the social determinants and connect it with the case later. This report also
contains factors that impact on the population level. It also focuses on the role played by the
health professionals in addressing the social determinates and how they can contribute to the
improvement of the society by playing their role.
Social demographic variables
Socio-demographic variables includes age, gender, social class, migration background or
town, relationship status, parental status, employment status, and town size. The socio-
demographic features help in understanding the life cycle of a person. Before medical
professionals start the treatment process, they must know a little history about the patient's
socio-demographic elements helps is providing information to the medical professionals
(Larsen,2017).
In this case, there are several socio-demographic factors that can be noted down which highly
influences the social support. Carla is a middle-aged woman who faced a traumatic condition
in her childhood that is her parent’s death. She was raised by her aunt and might have lacked
the required mother and fatherly care. She got married and had children at a very young
which certainly burdened her with lots of responsibilities as she has to handle everything
single handedly. The real struggle involves the financial crisis and responsibility of husband
with depression. Since her children are living in different cities, she has to make sure to save
enough amount for several trips to meet them and to meet their requirements. John has
depression issues and is of no big help to Carla and to the children since he is also
unemployed due his deteriorating condition of forgetfulness after head injury. Robbie and
Annie are in their early 20s are busy setting their career and improving their financial crisis
however, it is struggling. Annie despite of being economical unstable, planned to have child
make shown the irresponsible and immature decision as her partner is managing part time job
parallel with the high school (Su,2017).

Social Determinants of health are the factor the person grown, work and live and which
determine persons’ heath. The major determinants are housing, geographic location and
education and social care. While exploring this case it can be made evident that the all the
factors that fit into are behavioral and environmental factors that determine the health as well
(Adler, 2016). Taking the example of Carla, the physical and environmental factors led to
death of per parents at young age and her getting adopted by aunt. It also involves the case of
John, which led him to undergo injury and forgetting issue. Moreover, the geographic
location also influence, Robbie and Annie’s does not have stable job and income source live
in cities and that too is struggling for them and despite of the fact that Annie need mother
care during her pregnancy it make very difficult for Clara as well to bear the expenses while
making several trips to the city. Apart from that the educational factor inclining the social
health can be seen in the case of Robbie, Josh and Clara as they are not yet capable to live
independently with economic stability. But with the proper education and dedicated learning
that must have go into the job which would have provide the job security and would have
paid enough to support their basic needs. Lack of education can be seen in Clara as she was
poor and did not able to go school. While Robbie was not interested in studies and dropped
out early. While Josh is still in high school and managing the part time job as well to take
care of his partner and the unborn child. Annie and josh were young and were already
struggling to meet their needs still they planned a baby, that will make their life even more
difficult. Education provides an intelligence level which helps individual to make better
judgments in life (Thornton,2016).

more prone to get misguided and misled (Sharples,2017).
