Report
AI Summary
This report addresses Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) as a significant public health concern. It highlights that HAIs, often occurring in hospitals, pose a risk to patient health and can be attributed to factors such as inadequate hygiene and antibiotic overuse. The report references data from 2014 indicating the prevalence of HAIs in the USA. It further discusses the impact of HAIs on the elderly population, particularly those aged 65 and older, due to immunosenescence, making them more susceptible to heart failure and other health complications. The report also references key sources, including the CDC and Premier Safety Institute, to support its findings.

Public Health Issue
Healthcare-associated Infections (HAIs) are the infections that are received by the patients
while getting care or treatments into the hospitals by the doctors. It is an international public
issue and a national problem for USA. As per survey of CDC Healthcare Associated
Infections 2014, about 1 in 25 patients have been suffering from HAIs in USA (Premier,
2020). It is a public issue as it affects the life of patients due to the failure of the doctors in
keeping hands safe and overuse of antibiotics.
Risk Associated
HAI is considered as the public health issue as it can affect the health and cause death. It can
affect the emotional and financial destruction. This infection has caused the loss of thousands
of lives and increased the cost of US health care system (Health Gov, 2020). This nosocomial
infection can cause compromised immune system affecting the overall health of people due
the prolonged disease. Due to the exposure to organisms, it can affect the health due to
transmitting of the harmful infections.
Impact on Target Population group
HAI is a communicable disease that has caused the impact on the population groups on the
basis of age in which it affects the age group of 65 years in USA (Eckenrode, et al., 2014).
HAI as a public health issue for the elderly age group in which immunosenescence is caused
that declines the immunity system between this elderly age group in which elderly people are
affected by heart failure and other harmful diseases due to this infection.
