PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Introduction and Background
The report aims in discussing and evaluating the communication plan that is developed for
Public Health Informatics project. The project manager linked with the project needs an advice on the
communication plan that is prepared for the project. Communication plans generally have a large role in
ensuring successful execution of a project. The communication plan identifies the medium for
establishing communication with the stakeholders of the project [2]. The Public Health Informatics
project is a sensitive project, which has full support from the leadership team. The project management
of this project has developed a communication plan in order to ensure that both internal and external
stakeholders are able to communicate effectively with the project team. The developed communication
plan will be examined by the project manager on basis of project mana gement practices in the following
paragraphs.
1. Assessment of the current communication plan
The Public Health Informatics project is related to development of an information system that
will help in better management of the health data. The need of developing and managing an integrated
public health information system identifies the need of development of an effective project team. In
project management, team communication plays a significant role. Communication is a key tool behind
stakeholders’ involvement and engagement in a project [3]. Since this project seeks complete support
from both internal and external stakeholders, development of a sound and effective communication
plan is necessary.
On evaluation of the current communication plan, of the project of improving the county public
health information, it is observed that the stakeholders’ issues, communication and the format of
communication is correctly documented on the developed communication plan [1]. The communication
plan that is prepared clearly indicates the stakeholders’ issues that are needed to be communicated.
Furthermore, the prepared communication pan gives an idea of the communication format that is
needed to be followed by the stakeholders of the project. Thus, it can be said that this communication
plan is capable of managing the stakeholders of the project quite effectively. The main form of
communication is identified to be email, meeting, telephoning and teleconferencing [5]. The
communication plan provides a description of the specific communication format that needs to be
followed by the stakeholders of the project [4]. Thus, on assessing the project communication plan, it

can be commented that the communication plan prepared in effective in terms of stakeholders’
management.
2. Communication Plan and Project Management Practices
The previous section of the report evaluates the communication plan on basis of its ability in
managing the stakeholders involved with a project [8]. The previous section of the report establishes
that fact that the communication plan that is adopted is realistic enough to ensure effective
communication among all the stakeholders associated with a project. However, the communication plan
that is developed is needed to be assessed on basis of the project management practices as well. This is
particularly because the communication plan is one of the most effective tools that are used in
management of a project. Along with that, the stakeholders’ management is an essential criteria behind
success of a project [7]. The communication plan that is prepared for the public health informatics
project is found to be quite effective in management of the stakeholders associated with the project. It
is responsibility of the project manager to prepare a communication plan for the project, which is
followed in this project as well [6]. Thus, it can be said that the current communication plan that is
prepared is aligned with the current project management practices.
3. Recommendations
The communication plan that is prepared is found to be effective in management of the
stakeholders associated with the project. However, there are few issues in the communication plan that
needs attention. The complexity of the plan is one such issues. The communication plan has detailed the
type of communication that should be followed within the team. However, in case of emergency
situations, a link of informal communication is necessary. One of the recommendations that can be
provided to the project team regarding bringing in improvements in the communication plan is adding
the scope of informal communication among the project team. This can help in establishing a
communication link in times of need. This will further ensure an easier communication flow and better
management of the stakeholders of the project.
4. Justification
Certain recommendations are made to increase the effectiveness of the communication process
associated with the Public Health Informatics project. One of the most significant recommendations that
is made on the current communication plan is involvement of informal communication. It is observed

justified as it contributes to the effective stakeholders’ management and management of team
communication. Involvement of the recommendations on the current communication plan will be
increasing the effectiveness of the communication process that is followed within the project team of
Public Health Informatics Project.

the project. The report draws a comparison of the developed communication plan with the sound
project management practices. The report establishes the fact that the communication plan that is
