Introduction
Wellbeing is the cumulative result of physical and mental health that expands the
capacity of individuals to think, feel and act to enjoy their lives and face the challenges of life. It
is very important for every individual to focus on this overall aspect of wellbeing, as neglecting
the mental aspect of health can have deleterious effect on his or her development as a human
(Morse et al. 2012). This two phase of health is inter-connected and can be influenced by each
other. According to the famous humanitarian organization Humanosphere, the mental health and
overall health management system is among the top 10 global health issues (Nathe 2016). Alone
in United Kingdom, mental health is the biggest public health concern and every one in six
person is affected with mental health in the UK (Mental Health Foundation 2017). According to
the Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey 2014 (2016), the rates of mental health related issues are
higher in the south-west portion than the entire UK and according to the Office of National
Statistics (ONS), in 2014, total 6122 suicides were recorded in the entire UK. Finham is the
residential portion of the city Coventry and have its own public health issues and According to
the governmental data of Coventry, there are total 67,000 cases of mental health issues have been
reported having people aged between 16-74 years (ILiveHere 2018). The Blue Sky is the health
promotion campaign in Finham, Coventry. This public health campaign is successfully running
since 2016 and has been providing necessary support to people in need in the local community.
This projects mainly deals with mental health and wellbeing support of children and young
people. The purpose of this assignment is to compare and contrast different project management
activities and apply those in the Blue Sky public health campaign in Finham. Further, this project
will discuss different approaches that can be applied within this campaign so that maximum of

assignment is to formulate and prepare business plan including funding proposal, marketing
strategy to support this campaign effectively.
Background of the Blue Sky Project
While commencement of the Blue Sky project, the primary aim of this campaign was to
share each concern of the local community of Finham, so the state of mental health could be
improved. The project focused on service, promote wellbeing, promote understanding and
provide possible interventions to people affected with the social determinant of health. The
topical area this project chose primarily was isolation in children, young and elderly population.
The project counselled more than 5000 individuals in different locations of the local community
of Finham. The project has more than 100 volunteers who operates in 10 different locations of
the Finham, Coventry (Henderson, Evans-Lacko and Thornicroft 2013). These volunteers
include physicians, psychiatrists, volunteer nurses and project organizers and their determination
helped the campaign to be able to share problems of 5000 individuals within a span of one year.
The vision of this project was to be able to address all the mental health issues in the Finham
local area to improve the quality of life in this residential unit of the city Coventry. The success
of this health promotion can be understood from this fact that with the help of the national health
service of the United Kingdom government, the Blue Sky campaign was organized in five
locations of Coventry city. Further, it helped the NHS Coventry to organize the survey regarding
isolation as the social determinant of health in the UK population (Van Lippevelde et al., 2016)
The community
Coventry is a city that is located in the west midlands of England and is the second
highest populated area of England. The population of this area was 345,385 in the year 2015

(ILiveHere 2018). Maximum of this city’s population is British (66%) and according to the
government census data Office for National Statistics (2012), the population growth of this area
is estimated to grow by 5.6%. Every one in six individual of this location is estimated to be
affected with mental health issues. The most common type of mental health issue affecting this
community is the emotional disorder such as anxiety, aggressive behavior, isolation that affects
younger population in their daily activities and in children affect their learning abilities.
According to the ONS survey, maximum of the mental health starts at the age of 14 and therefore
the Blue-sky project is keen about helping individuals under the age of 17 to help them in their
mental health issues (Office of National Statistics 2014). The reason behind such practice is the
increasing rate of suicides in the Coventry and especially in the Finham region of England.
According to the governmental report regarding self-harm or suicide, schizophrenia or dementia
is one of the prime reason for suicide in England and in Coventry, more than 4000 people are
affected with dementia (Mental Health Foundation 2017). Therefore, in the first year of the
project, the campaign aimed to help people from age 17 to 70 and with the help of the Coventry
municipal and local government, arranged health promotion camps in 10 different locations
within 6 months.
Internal performance
The management process of this vast project
The Blue Sky project was privately funded for a year and therefore the management
procedure that was chosen for the health promotion camp for this purpose was benchmarking.
This process assures best practice in limited cost, as each step requires scrutiny and cross
checking (Agarwal et al. 2016). This management system bears key features such as
comprehensive and particular policy for the continuous quality improvement of the healthcare

system. Further, it helped the organizers and volunteers to review their process and track
indicators to involve their work force in the development and success of the mental health
campaign. Furthermore, the benchmark process provided the work force of the campaign with
the opportunity to compare their process with other healthcare promotional campaigns so that
innovative interventions to increase the acceptability of the project among the population (Katki
et al. 2013).
Factors that made the blue Sky project successful
Under this benchmarking management system, further the organizers assessed different
health promotional campaigns to understand their degree of success and to know about the
factors that led them to achieve success. The reason behind this was primarily the Blue Sky
project was developed with the permission, help of the local government and the NHS, and had a
sustainable source of funding and management (Korda and Itani 2013). This led the organizers to
detect the public health issues in that area and treat or evaluate those in the population of
Finham, Coventry. Secondly, this health promotion camp was specific and unlike other health
promotion programs, it was originated for the population of Finham, Coventry. Further, it was
focused in one of the social determinant of health that is emotions and loneliness among children
as well as adults, therefore the narrow approach helped them to focus on a single problem in a
pool of social determinant of health. Thirdly, employing volunteers and support staffs of the
local community. The project support staff and volunteers being to Finham locality and therefore
they were aware of the locations, where the mental health campaigns should be arranged. This let
the project to disperse its voice and agenda to a larger section of the community and project
showed sustainable long-term results. This three aspect of the public health campaign of Finham
made two different paths for helping people fight their mental health issues (Corcoran 2013).

The first path had a broad approach that involves proper clinical services and interventions that
was developed by the healthcare experts volunteering the project. The funding of the project was
divided in three sections such as organization costs, communication and interview costs and
interventions and clinical costs. Therefore, the interventions were funded according to the
clinical funding system the other approach of the project was based on public communications
and interviews with the individuals, who registered themselves in the health promotional
campaign (Street, Gold, and Manning 2013).
Strength and weaknesses of the project
The strength of this Blue Sky mental health campaign project was completely dependent
on the multi-level approach. The health promotional campaign narrowed their focus on one
social determinant of the health however; within that determinant, they focused several issues
such as isolation, emotional level, social pressure, family problems and schizophrenia or
dementia, which are among the several social problems that affect children and young population
of England majorly. Further, the health promotional campaign was organized in compliance with
the NHS England program operating in the Coventry city. The projects strength was is local
volunteers as they were aware of their local mental health problems and researched that
according to the report of fundamental facts about mental health, maximum of the mental health
services in England are overstretched and individuals had to wait for the special services.
therefore, the ability of the volunteers to able to address the issue was a strength to the project,
that led more than 5000 people to come up and share their problems and receive interventions to
lead a healthy life.

8HEALTH PROMOTIONAL CAMP BUSINESS PLAN
On the other hand, there are several aspects that the project should take account of, so
that the success can be sustained in future as well. The first disadvantage could be the straight-
forwardness of the health promotional campaign. The project, according to its aim, interviewed
or counselled individuals and after assessing their mental health, issues asked them to follow
several interventions. Further, educational aspect of health promotional events was missing in
this project. Arranging health promotional camps in schools, colleges and offices could have
elevated the success level of the project. Further, as the funding of the project was privately
aided the organizers did not had scope of digital advertisement throughout the local authority,
which emerged as another weakness of the project as a small section of population was unaware
of the process.
Future trends and strategic plan
As the health promotion camp in Finham was able to address the mental issues related to
isolation in more than 5000 people, the future trend of this promotional campaign is to each
individual of this local area of Coventry, who are still deprived of this specific health
promotional event. Further, the organizer of the health promotional campaign wants to expand
the reach of this health promotional camp from Finham borough to the entire Coventry city as
besides NHS, the location lacked a proper mental health addressing organization. Therefore, the
organizers and volunteers have a strategic plan to expand the service.
ï‚· The first strategy is to involve the youth and teenagers in the health promotional
camp with the use of social media. Social media can be used as a marketing tool
for the health promotional campaign and a digital medium to spread the news to
every section of the society.
Document Page
9HEALTH PROMOTIONAL CAMP BUSINESS PLAN
ï‚· The organizers can employ more volunteers as it will not be possible for previous
employees to arrange campaigns in such big scale.
ï‚· The fund received will be utilized in four sections and the biggest section 45
percent of the fund will be used in interventions or clinical assistance to the
individuals having mental health issues.
ï‚· According to the data from the NHS mental health development unit (2018),
unemployment is one of the biggest reason for loneliness and mental disturbance
and more than 2.6 million people feel that employment will help them to
overcome their mental illness, therefore the Blue Sky mental health campaign
project aims to provide individuals having no employment source with skill
training. This will help them to overcome their loneliness and gain opportunities
for employment (National Mental Health Development Unit 2018).
ï‚· In case of operational management of the health campaign, the management
process will be shifted from benchmark process to 4-phase event management
system. The four steps of this management process are conceptualizing, strategic
planning, implementation and evaluation (Fang and Marle 2012). This
management process was used in the governmental health promotional campaign
of Australia, Living Organ Donation and the process enable them to achieve
success in the crucial campaign. Therefore with the help of this 4 phase
management, selecting event sites, duration, mode of data collection, marketing,
budget distribution and acquiring permits from the government and finalizing
volunteers will be done prior to event (Schulenkorf 2012).

mental state. The resources in this health promotional camp are Funds (government or private
aided), paid and self-volunteer physicians, psychiatrists, volunteer nurses, management team and
