I have attained the core skills which are foundational to health promotion strategies. It is
of essence that I gain more skills and competencies which are relevant to health promotion.
These are the skills that I currently have.
Partnership building skills and knowledge
I have learned the skill to identify potential individual partners who would be beneficial
to health promotion in relation to computer-related injuries. Partnership building as a skill has
made me equipped me with the capabilities of engaging relevant companies, social groups, and
agencies in ensuring a collaborative approach.
Effective Communication and Report Writing knowledge and skill
As a medical practitioner, effective report writing skills are a necessity. This is crucial
when writing a program plan and the strategy for dealing with computer-related injuries at
Australia Catholic University. This would entail writing medical reports and journals,
preparation of health promotional materials related to computer-based injuries and decoding
medical terminologies for different audiences. (James, Lower & Howat,2001)
Effective communication especially the application of interpersonal skills, during conflict
management, decision making, team building, health promotion presentations, facilitation of

This skill would help in relevant literature review and get a view of the organizational.
This is to be attained with the involvement of the universities stakeholders. The input of
academic and practitioner professionals would be highly regarded in line with an assessment of
the impact and intervention strategies of computer-related injuries. The assessment skills would
help also in setting priority areas for health promotion. The thorough assessment would reveal
social, organizational and behavioral risk factors causing health-related injuries. (Barry,
Allegrante, Lamarre Auld & Taub, 2009)
Program planning skills and knowledge
These skills are of help in ensuring that I come up with a detailed intervention plan for
computer-related injuries and objectives that are measurable and realistic. The resources required
and relevant strategies to be implemented would be identified by using planning skills

These skills would help me formulate appropriate strategies that are relevant to the
school's culture, policies, and regulation. Background of the stakeholders’ social, cultural and

gathered from the school facility using these skills would assist me in establishing a relevant
partnership based on the need assessment. Such partners would be sourced from different
sectors. The skills are crucial in the alignment of the chosen strategy to goals of the health
promotion program. The strategies formulated would involve structural and environmental,
lobbying and advocacy, health education, social marketing, and health policy. Lastly, these skills
would be used in ensuring ownership of the program by the community and ensuring its
sustainability.
Evaluation and Research skills and knowledge
These skills would help in engaging appropriate evaluation designs and methods into the
health promotions practice. It is helpful in measuring impact, outcome and the process, selection
of evaluation tools, readjustment of objectives based on the findings, use of qualitative and
quantitative data in the evaluation process, reporting of the evaluation results, preparation of
funding proposals and ethics approval. (Shilton, Howat, James, Burke, Hutchins & Woodman,
2008).
Additional Skills and Knowledge I need to complete the placement
The understanding of Environmental Safety Standards for Health promotion and procedures for
management
I need to learn the key aspects that make up a healthy and safe environment. This would
assist me in reducing the risk involved in computer-related injuries at Australia Catholic
University such as unfavorable working cabinets which would cause a strain on the back and
neck ache, use of software that is fitted with eye care, use of healthy screen brightness conditions
and limited use of computers to avoid migraines (Sharma, Khera & Khandekar, 2006). This
