AI Summary
This briefing paper addresses the shortage of the textbook 'Writing Effectively' published by Oxford Publishing, which has been causing issues for students in the Department of Communications, specifically in the Comm 1234 course. The 4th edition of the book has been launched, prompting the return of the 3rd edition, which is currently the suggested textbook. The deadline for returning the 3rd edition is approaching, creating a problem for the upcoming semester. Issues include the misalignment of chapters in the new edition, differing content, and the impracticality of using both editions simultaneously. The report explores options such as selling all 3rd edition books before the semester, providing enrollment registration photocopies to the bookstore manager, and reviewing chapter alignments to make necessary changes in the 4th edition. The recommendation is to pursue the third option, ensuring the safety of the students and the communications department's interests.

Purpose
The purpose of this briefing paper is to arrange for the supply of books in the Oxford
Publishing for the upcoming semesters. The attention of the bookstore manager has to be sought
by the Dean of the Department of Communications.
Background
Many students and the Department of Communications Kelly Brook have been
complaining about the shortage of the books in the bookstore and the studies have been badly
hampered as well. The textbook named Writing Effectively is yet to be supplied to the students.
The Oxford Publishers have already launched the 4th edition of the book and this is why they
have also asked to return the 3rd edition of the book to the store. However, the problem seems to
be the fact that only the 3rd edition of the book has been suggested as the textbook for the
improvement in the effective writing skills. The timeframe that has been allotted to return the 3rd
edition of the book is very short. It will not be enough to meet the needs of the next semester
Comm 1234. The publishers will not be taking back the books after the deadline is being over.
Current situation
The current situation has been very much complicated because of the issue of the books
by the Oxford Publishing. The people at different levels have been interviewed and strong
information has come up in this scenario as well.
Some problems have been identified in this section like the new alignment of the chapters
in the 4th edition of the book. This could be a huge problem for the students indeed.
The contents and the quizzes in the course will not be the same indeed.

The added problem in this scenario is the fact that the students will not be able to use
both the 3rd and 4th edition books at the same time. This fact would really create the
confusion among the students indeed.
The deadline of returning the 3rd edition of books will be before the beginning of the
upcoming semester. This has created the big confusion among the students and this has
resulted in the waste of money of the communications department as well.
Options
Option 1: All the books of the 3rd edition should be sold before the beginning of the upcoming
semester. This would ease off the problem in a better manner indeed. The investigation plan
should be made in order to find out the ways of how the third edition books can be returned
before the semester without wasting the money of the department.
Option 2: The photocopies of the enrolment registration numbers should be provided to the
bookstore manager so he can arrange something for the benefit of all the parties involved in this
concerned matter.
Option 3: It would be far better to review all the chapter alignments and make some serious
attempts to by making the necessary changes in the books of the 4th edition. It might take some
time but talks should be carried out with the publishers indeed.
Recommendations
The third option is recommended for the safety of the students and communications
department.
