1.2 Impact of Regulatory Ethical and Legal considerations for hiring and selection process
The plans and policies which are made in order to recruit and select best talents who can
achieve desired results should be linked with making effective guidelines which should be
properly followed at the time of selecting employees who can become a part of their business
operations (Yang, Huang and Wu, 2011). Purple mail firms are having their business operations
all around UK and it is mandatory for them to follow ethical, regulatory and legal policies while
organising is conducting hiring and selection processes.
The Equality Act 2010: The main reason of this act is related with ensuring equality at
work place so that employees are treated on equal grounds and there is no discrimination among
the male and female employees. This helps in development of positive environment at work
place and ensure coordination among all departments so that all targets of firms can be achieved
in desired time frame.
Equal Pay Act 1970: The major responsibilities of paying timely salary to employees is
of Human resource managers. They should ensure that employees who are working at same level
should be given same pay scales in order to satisfy them and avoid conflicting situations. When a
person is joining at that time all the terms and conditions which had to be followed by employees
should be stated to them and their gross salary in order to avoid confusions.

Race Relation Act 1976: This act came into force in order to safeguard employees if they
are facing any discrimination in relation to caste, sex, creed, colour etc. It results in achieving
equality among employees so no one is discriminated at work place. It is the most important and
valuable task in order to establish strong coordination among all employees at work place.
Employment Protection Act 1978: The main reason of enactment of this act was linked
with making employees aware about their roles and responsibilities according to which they had
to execute their business operations. The employees should y should know their working hours,
holiday list, policies linked with firing of employees etc. This is an essential factor in order to
make communication process easy for all employees and they can execute their working
accordingly.
1.3 Participation in selection process
In the process which are designed for hiring and selection of employees. There I have
given my contribution in selecting employees by playing the role of interviewer. There I had
taken interview of off all those candidates who were interested in doing jobs and showing their
talents.
The major role and responsibilities which were assigned to me were linked with
designing effective plans and procedures in which all criteria for taking interviews are set. This is
beneficial for all individuals who will be giving interviews in order to fill the vacant post of
firms. The marking criteria used by me to give grading grade to workers according to their
answers were based on their current knowledge level and confidence (McIntyre and Foti, 2013).
This was helpful for PMC to recruit the best and talented employees who can execute their
operations in order to achieve best target for firms. My grading criteria and the sample template
which I had prepared in order to select employees are discussed below as:
The confidence and efficiency level of all those employees who were applying for the
vacant post.
Current knowledge level of workers in the similar field of delivering parcels to
customers.
How effective were the presentation part which were given by interviewee.
This is the most important and vital criteria which were used by firms to select the best
talent who can do timely delivery of products and satisfy their present customers. This is
beneficial in order to achieve goals of business. There are different rounds designed for selection

method. In the first round if the employees passed all the questions which were asked by
interviewer then they can apply for the second round in which face to face interview is conducted
between mangers and interviewee and personal and professional questions are asked in order to
analyse knowledge level. Thus it can be said that firms are adopting this methods in selecting
employee for their work and they are achieving success in performing their overall business
operations.
1.4 My own contribution towards selection process
The cited firms have designed different process and accordingly they are taking interview
of candidates and selecting them so they can easily achieve desired target of firms and clear all
the left out stock of firms. This is valuable for business in order to achieve higher profitability
and achieve success in overall business operations. The selection process which are followed by
firms are described below as:
Preliminary Interview: This process is used in relation to reject all the employees who
are not able to achieve desired criteria which are set by firms. In this step the overall focus is on
competency level, family background, knowledge level, academic skills and interest areas of
employees in order to assign them work according to their interest (Bearman and et. al., 2012).
These type of interview are conducted in formal and planned ways while making comparison
with final interviews. Individuals are given knowledge about the working which have to be done
by employees, history of company and it is also examined on the part of interviewer how much
knowledge individual have about the type of working in company and working. The other name
of this interview is screening of interviews.
Application Blank: All those persons who were successful in completing preliminary
interview have to fill application blank. It comprises of personal and professional data of
employees like details about age, family background, qualifications, why you have the left the
past institution, who gave the reference about our company etc.
Written test: There are different types of test organised during the interviews process
which are in written formats like reasoning, aptitude, personality and intelligence test. All the
questions are based on objectives and it is mainly used to judge knowledge level of individuals.
This interviews are conducted biased free (Endacott and et. al., 2015).
Employment Interview: In this stage there is face to face interaction among the
interviewer and employees. It is used in order to evaluate that candidates are fit for the present

job or not. But there is drawback of conducting this type of interview as it consumes both time
and money in order to make strong communication with employees. However the competency
level of persons cannot be judged and there can be biases noticed in organising interview. There
should not be any form of disturbances in rooms thus establishment of honest and effective
communication among the interviewer and candidate.
Medical Examination: This test is organised in order to check employees that they are
physically fit for the job or not. This is beneficial in order to reduce chances of employees being
absent from work place.
Appointment Letter: This is an appreciation letter given to the selected candidate which
ensures person has become part of the firms and he had to follow all terms and conditions which
were stated at the time of joining.
TASK 2

If a person want to see himself as the leader of business then he had to develop skills and
capabilities in order to lead a team and become successful in their targets of becoming future

capabilities which are needed by leaders are described below as:

2.3 Leadership styles for different situations
(Source: Leadership Styles, 2017)
There are different types of leadership styles followed at work places which are evaluated
below as:

2.4 Methods to motivate staff to achieve objectives
Managers are using various tools and techniques by which they can motivate their
employees in order to achieve all goals and objectives. This is related with two factors which
include positive and negative (Vogelsmeier and Scott-Cawiezell, 2011). Positive motivation is
related with giving bonus, rewards, incentives and other monetary and non-monetary benefit to
employees. This is the best tools used by managers so they can motivate their employees and
achieve all goals and objectives.
Negative factors are related with setting targets for employees which they have to achieve
in desired time frames and if they fail to do this then there is reduction in their pay scales thus
their income will decline. There are basically two types of motivational tools used in business
which are linked with demand factors. According to the given case PMC are facing heavy losses
so they had to motivate employees by giving them incentives, rewards etc. Employees can also
be promoted at higher post as tools used for motivation.
