PYP LESSON PLAN FOR IB 2
The extent to which the purpose was achieved
The teaching purpose was achieved quite well This means that the central idea or the
main concept of the lesson was properly explained to the students to the extent that the major
take home points were driven home. This is due to the number of student initiated enquiries that
arose after the lesson. Secondly, only few clarifications from the enquiries were required most of
which were done by fellow students. This showed a high understanding rate hence the intended
purpose was achieved to a better extent.
In order to improve on the assessment task and ensure the teachers gets a more accurate
picture about the level of students’ understanding on the central idea, the teachers can introduce
an after lesson assessment test whereby the students are expected to answer a set of questions
directly related to the lesson to be used as a measure of how well the lesson was understood by
the student. This would also call for an adjustment of the lesson time to give room for
administering of these assessment questions.
The fact that only a few enquiries arose after the lesson and that these enquiries were
comfortably handled by the fellow students is an enough evidence that there were connections
made between the transdisplinary theme and the central idea.
The student-initiated enquiries that arose
After the lesson, the students had some enquiries that they wished to enquire from the teacher.
These enquiries include:
What makes us similar?
What makes us different?

These enquiries must have raised due to the teachers’ provocations in the endeavor of tackling
the lesson objectives. These objectives were listed in box 2 of the pyp lesson plan for IB. These
provocations include
We are all similar
We differ from each other
We all need friends
Student initiated actions
For all these student initiated enquiries, there were corresponding student initiated
actions. These actions were provoked by the teacher by grouping the student in small functional
groups and letting them discuss these enquiries. This helped the students brainstorm on these
enquiries and came up with appropriate answers. Drawing their own pictures in groups was also
another way used for the student initiated actions to answer in order to answer the student
initiated enquiries. This drawings were particularly used to demonstrate the fact that we are all
similar as shown by our body parts.
Teachers’ notes
Lesson planning is very crucial to both the teachers and the leaners. This is because it
helps the teacher plan and be intentional in the teaching processes that he/she may not wonder
away from the requirements. This is achieved by stating the objectives before the lesson and
closely following this during the lessons to ensure that these objectives are achieved. It helps the
tutor provoke the leaners into understanding the requirements of the lesson. This makes the
whole learning process efficient and effective.
