INTRODUCTION
This assignment is about sustainable tourism development in Qatar. Qatar is an emerging
destination in terms of tourism and hospitality, rich cultural heritage, events that took place
and that will take place in future like Qatar is being selected for sports events and is going to be
the host for 2019 Athletic Championships, 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 FINA World
Swimming Championships. Every year about 80 sports events take place in Qatar and along
with that it hosts about more than 150 business conferences (Qatar,2019). Qatar is now
becoming a popular place for National and International ventures which will result in a boom in
the tourism and sustainable development of Qatar. Along with tourism there will be growth in
the hospitality sector also. Further, the assignment will discuss the developing and emerging
destination of tourism and the impact of tourism on Qatar followed with the resolving solutions
for the conflict that develops in the sector of tourism.

Tourism development is a process through which the tourist destination can be preserves and
work towards its growth simultaneously (Mowforth and Munt, 2015). Through this process, the
tourism system of the country manages to preserve the natural, social, cultural and
environmental heritage by adopting the measures of sustainable development.
Tourism development helps the countries to manage the numerous tourists by providing them
relishing experience and by preserving the tourist destination together.

• Lowering Costs
Through adapting the concept of tourism development, QTA would be planning various policies
through which they can reserve their natural resources while providing high level of satisfaction
to their tourists (De Vita and Kyaw, 2016). It would lower the modification cost the tour
operators incur on their tourist destinations and attract higher tourists.
• Accommodating more tourists
Through making a development plan, QTA can adopt policies which would allow them to use
their resources efficiently through which they can accommodate higher tourists in minimum
possible time while providing them with a relishing experience (Edgell , 2016). Accommodating
more tourists without causing any problem would allow them to gain higher revenues through
tourism.
• Advancement of Local Communities
The local Communities of Qatar would also be benefitted by adopting the process of tourism
development as they would be having higher number of tourists and would grow their economy

(Giaoutzi, 2017). It would also increase their standard of living and would be able to learn from
the varied cultural exchanges through tourism.
• Environmental and Cultural Preservation
Adopting tourism development would conserve the natural resources and habitats in Qatar so
that they can keep on satisfying the tourist’s expectations. To attract high number of tourists, it
is essential for QTA to maintain the natural, environmental, cultural and social habitat it inherits.

With a partnership between the private sector and public sector for the implementation of
tourism development, the best of services provided by both sectors can be provided to the
tourists.
However, there are various advantages and disadvantages of combining the public sector and
private sector of Qatar.

• Growth of Economy
With a combination of the public and private sector economy, the economy of Qatar would
rapidly grow by extracting the benefits of both the sectors (Edgell , 2016). The combination of
both let QTA utilize the benefits of both sector for developing the tourism sustainably.
• Higher Satisfaction to Tourists
Extracting benefits from both the sector would let QTA utilize the benefits of gaining profits
from private sector and higher public service through the public sector, which together would
create a relishing experience to the tourists (De Vita and Kyaw, 2016).
• Higher Earnings
Qatar would be generating higher profits through combining both the sectors as it would make
them work at their utmost efficiency using the expertise from both the sectors .
