INTRODUCTION
Sustainable tourism is defined as the tourism that takes the account of the current and future
social, economic and environmental impact s addressing the need and demand of the visitors,
environment, industry and the host community. In modern scenario, sustainable tourism has
become the need of the tourism industry. This report is an attempt to understand the concept
of sustainable tourism and to probe the various aspects associated with it. This report explains
the rationale and different approaches of tourism planning and development. It further covers
the importance of sustainability in tourism development and the factor affecting the
sustainability is also demonstrated in this work. It further covers the issues which are affects
the tourism development planning. The comparison different issues of developing countries
and emerging destinations are also done in this work.
The case study of ‘Qatar’ is adopted in this work in order to understand the topic deeply and
effectively. Qatar is a Middle Eastern country with rich culture and history. Qatar welcomes a
large volume of the international tourists every year. The visitor attraction Qatar and events
organised in the country attracts the large volume of the tourists. Qatar host around 80 sports
event and 150 business conference annually. In this report, the different aspects of the
sustainable tourism development are explained with respect to Qatar.
